Multipole Expansion for the Electron-Nucleus Scattering at High Energies in the Unified Electroweak Theory
The article presents the multipole expansion for the electron-nucleus
scattering cross section at high energies within the framework of the unified
electroweak theory. The electroweak currents of the nucleus are expanded into
simple components with definite angular momentum, which are called the
multipole form factors. The multipole expansion of the cross section is a
consequence of the above expansion. Besides the familiar electromagnetic form
factors, there are weak form factors related to weak interactions,
corresponding to the vector and axial (pseudovector) weak currents. We do not
use the impulse approximation, the multipole form factors are calculated
directly, using only the Born approximation. We will present some examples in
the next paper.Comment: 7 pages, 0 figur
Static behaviour of functionally graded sandwich beams using a quasi-3D theory
This paper presents static behaviour of functionally graded (FG) sandwich beams by using a quasi-3D theory, which includes both shear deformation and thickness stretching effects. Various symmetric and non-symmetric sandwich beams with FG material in the core or skins under the uniformly distributed load are considered. Finite element model (FEM) and Navier solutions are developed to determine the displacement and stresses of FG sandwich beams for various power-law index, skin-core-skin thickness ratios and boundary conditions. Numerical results are compared with those predicted by other theories to show the effects of shear deformation and thickness stretching on displacement and stresses
A continuous non-linear shadowing model of columnar growth
We propose the first continuous model with long range screening (shadowing)
that described columnar growth in one space dimension, as observed in plasma
sputter deposition. It is based on a new continuous partial derivative equation
with non-linear diffusion and where the shadowing effects apply on all the
different processes.Comment: Fast Track Communicatio
Axial-flexural coupled vibration and buckling of composite beams using sinusoidal shear deformation theory
A finite element model based on sinusoidal shear deformation theory is developed to study vibration and buckling analysis of composite beams with arbitrary lay-ups. This theory satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of beam without using shear correction factors. Besides, it has strong similarity with Euler–Bernoulli beam theory in some aspects such as governing equations, boundary conditions, and stress resultant expressions. By using Hamilton’s principle, governing equations of motion are derived. A displacement-based one-dimensional finite element model is developed to solve the problem. Numerical results for cross-ply and angle-ply composite beams are obtained as special cases and are compared with other solutions available in the literature. A variety of parametric studies are conducted to demonstrate the effect of fiber orientation and modulus ratio on the natural frequencies, critical buckling loads, and load-frequency curves as well as corresponding mode shapes of composite beams
UIT-Saviors at MEDVQA-GI 2023: Improving Multimodal Learning with Image Enhancement for Gastrointestinal Visual Question Answering
In recent years, artificial intelligence has played an important role in
medicine and disease diagnosis, with many applications to be mentioned, one of
which is Medical Visual Question Answering (MedVQA). By combining computer
vision and natural language processing, MedVQA systems can assist experts in
extracting relevant information from medical image based on a given question
and providing precise diagnostic answers. The ImageCLEFmed-MEDVQA-GI-2023
challenge carried out visual question answering task in the gastrointestinal
domain, which includes gastroscopy and colonoscopy images. Our team approached
Task 1 of the challenge by proposing a multimodal learning method with image
enhancement to improve the VQA performance on gastrointestinal images. The
multimodal architecture is set up with BERT encoder and different pre-trained
vision models based on convolutional neural network (CNN) and Transformer
architecture for features extraction from question and endoscopy image. The
result of this study highlights the dominance of Transformer-based vision
models over the CNNs and demonstrates the effectiveness of the image
enhancement process, with six out of the eight vision models achieving better
F1-Score. Our best method, which takes advantages of BERT+BEiT fusion and image
enhancement, achieves up to 87.25% accuracy and 91.85% F1-Score on the
development test set, while also producing good result on the private test set
with accuracy of 82.01%.Comment: ImageCLEF2023 published version:

Methane emission factors from vietnamese rice production: Pooling data of 36 field sites for meta-analysis
Rice production is a significant source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the national budget of many Asian countries, but the extent of emissions varies strongly across agro-environmental zones. It is important to understand these differences in order to improve the national GHG inventory and effectively target mitigation options. This study presents a meta-analysis of CH4 database emission factors (EFs) from 36 field sites across the rice growing areas of Vietnam and covering 73 cropping seasons. The EFs were developed from field measurements using the closed chamber technique. The analysis for calculating baseline EFs in North, Central and South Vietnam in line with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Tier 2 methodology was specified for the three cropping seasons being early-(E), mid-(M) and late-year (L) seasons. Calculated average CH EFs are given in kg ha d and reflect the distinct seasons in North (E: 2.21; L: 3.89), Central (E: 2.84; M+L: 3.13) and South Vietnam (E: 1.72; M: 2.80; L: 3.58). Derived from the available data of the edapho-hydrological zones of the Mekong River Delta, season-based EFs are more useful than zone-based EFs. In totality, these average EFs indicate an enormous variability of GHG emissions in Vietnamese rice production and represent much higher values than the IPCC default. Seasonal EFs from Vietnam exceeded IPCC defaults given for Southeast Asia corresponding to 160% (E), 240% (M) and 290% (L) of the medium value, respectively
Superdeformed rotational bands in the Mercury region; A Cranked Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov study
A study of rotational properties of the ground superdeformed bands in \Hg{0},
\Hg{2}, \Hg{4}, and \Pb{4} is presented. We use the cranked
Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method with the {\skm} parametrization of the Skyrme
force in the particle-hole channel and a seniority interaction in the pairing
channel. An approximate particle number projection is performed by means of the
Lipkin-Nogami prescription. We analyze the proton and neutron quasiparticle
routhians in connection with the present information on about thirty presently
observed superdeformed bands in nuclei close neighbours of \Hg{2}.Comment: 26 LaTeX pages, 14 uuencoded postscript figures included, Preprint

Modelling chemistry and biology after implantation of a drug-eluting stent. Part I: Drug transport
Drug-eluting stents have been used widely to prevent restenosis of arteries following percutaneous balloon angioplasty. Mathematical modelling plays an important role in optimising the design of these stents to maximise their efficiency. When designing a drug-eluting stent system, we expect to have a sufficient amount of drug being released into the artery wall for a sufficient period to prevent restenosis. In this paper, a simple model is considered to provide an elementary description of drug release into artery tissue from an implanted stent. From the model, we identified a parameter regime to optimise the system when preparing the polymer coating. The model provides some useful order of magnitude estimates for the key quantities of interest. From the model, we can identify the time scales over which the drug traverses the artery wall and empties from the polymer coating, as well as obtain approximate formulae for the total amount of drug in the artery tissue and the fraction of drug that has released from the polymer. The model was evaluated by comparing to in-vivo experimental data and good agreement was found
