Person re-identification across different surveillance cameras with disjoint fields of view has become one of the most interesting and challenging subjects in the area of intelligent video surveillance. Although several methods have been developed and proposed, certain limitations and unresolved issues remain. In all of the existing re-identification approaches, feature vectors are extracted from segmented still images or video frames. Different similarity or dissimilarity measures have been applied to these vectors. Some methods have used simple constant metrics, whereas others have utilised models to obtain optimised metrics. Some have created models based on local colour or texture information, and others have built models based on the gait of people. In general, the main objective of all these approaches is to achieve a higher-accuracy rate and lowercomputational costs. This study summarises several developments in recent literature and discusses the various available methods used in person re-identification. Specifically, their advantages and disadvantages are mentioned and compared.Comment: Published 201

This study investigates the relationship between knowledge-sharing mechanisms, managerial tacit knowledge, and individual performance in the Malaysian public sector. Moderation effects of 10 employee personality on these variables were also examined. Findings from 308 Malaysian public sector managers suggest that individual performance is influenced by levels of accumulated managerial tacit knowledge (LAMTK), which were moderated by employee personality traits. The findings also show that individual performance has an impact on the effectiveness of knowledge- sharing mechanisms

Background: Zinc layered hydroxide (ZLH) intercalated with cinnamate, an anionic form of cinnamic acid (CA), an efficient UVA and UVB absorber, have been synthesized by direct method using zinc oxide (ZnO) and cinnamic acid as the precursor. Results: The resulting obtained intercalation compound, ZCA, showed a basal spacing of 23.9 Å as a result of cinnamate intercalated in a bilayer arrangement between the interlayer spaces of ZLH with estimated percentage loading of cinnamate of about 40.4 % w/w. The UV–vis absorption spectrum of the intercalation compound showed excellent UVA and UVB absorption ability. Retention of cinnamate in ZLH interlayers was tested against media usually came across with sunscreen usage to show low release over an extended period of time. MTT assay of the intercalation compound on human dermal fibroblast (HDF) cells showed cytotoxicity of ZCA to be concentration dependent and is overall less toxic than its precursor, ZnO. Conclusions: (Cinnamate-zinc layered hydroxide) intercalation compound is suitable to be used as a safe and effective sunscreen with long UV protection effect

Importance: Early diagnosis of retinoblastoma, the most common intraocular cancer, can save both a child's life and vision. However, anecdotal evidence suggests that many children across the world are diagnosed late. To our knowledge, the clinical presentation of retinoblastoma has never been assessed on a global scale. Objectives: To report the retinoblastoma stage at diagnosis in patients across the world during a single year, to investigate associations between clinical variables and national income level, and to investigate risk factors for advanced disease at diagnosis. Design, Setting, and Participants: A total of 278 retinoblastoma treatment centers were recruited from June 2017 through December 2018 to participate in a cross-sectional analysis of treatment-naive patients with retinoblastoma who were diagnosed in 2017. Main Outcomes and Measures: Age at presentation, proportion of familial history of retinoblastoma, and tumor stage and metastasis. Results: The cohort included 4351 new patients from 153 countries; the median age at diagnosis was 30.5 (interquartile range, 18.3-45.9) months, and 1976 patients (45.4%) were female. Most patients (n = 3685 [84.7%]) were from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Globally, the most common indication for referral was leukocoria (n = 2638 [62.8%]), followed by strabismus (n = 429 [10.2%]) and proptosis (n = 309 [7.4%]). Patients from high-income countries (HICs) were diagnosed at a median age of 14.1 months, with 656 of 666 (98.5%) patients having intraocular retinoblastoma and 2 (0.3%) having metastasis. Patients from low-income countries were diagnosed at a median age of 30.5 months, with 256 of 521 (49.1%) having extraocular retinoblastoma and 94 of 498 (18.9%) having metastasis. Lower national income level was associated with older presentation age, higher proportion of locally advanced disease and distant metastasis, and smaller proportion of familial history of retinoblastoma. Advanced disease at diagnosis was more common in LMICs even after adjusting for age (odds ratio for low-income countries vs upper-middle-income countries and HICs, 17.92 [95% CI, 12.94-24.80], and for lower-middle-income countries vs upper-middle-income countries and HICs, 5.74 [95% CI, 4.30-7.68]). Conclusions and Relevance: This study is estimated to have included more than half of all new retinoblastoma cases worldwide in 2017. Children from LMICs, where the main global retinoblastoma burden lies, presented at an older age with more advanced disease and demonstrated a smaller proportion of familial history of retinoblastoma, likely because many do not reach a childbearing age. Given that retinoblastoma is curable, these data are concerning and mandate intervention at national and international levels. Further studies are needed to investigate factors, other than age at presentation, that may be associated with advanced disease in LMICs

The melt-quenching method was used to fabricate zinc borotellurite glasses of composition [{(TeO2)0.7 (B2O3)0.3}0.7 (ZnO)0.3](1-y) (Eu2O3)y, with 0.01 = y ≤ 0.05 M fraction. The calculated density and molar volume values lies between 4.74 and 5.15 g/cm3, and 24.58 and 25.61 cm3/mol. The optical properties were analysed and discussed. The estimated optical band gap (direct and indirect) energies decrease from 3.49 to 3.05 eV and 3.11 to 2.81 eV, whereas the Urbach energy and reflective index increase from 0.262 to 0.334 eV and 2.368 to 2.450 with Eu2O3 content. The evaluated Racah parameters (B and C) ranges from 92.60 to 119.86 cm−1 and from 626.64 to 643.35cm−1, respectively. The calculated Judd-Ofelt Ω2 parameter increases from (2.78 to 3.93)×10−20cm2. Furthermore, the gain bandwidth and optical gain value were found between (14.295 to20.340)×10−28cm2 and (12.576 to 15.693)×10−25cm2, respectively, for the 5D2 → 7F2 transition. In addition, stimulated emission cross-section and branching ratio values of 14.029×10−22cm2 and 66.54% were achieved from TBZEu0.04 prepared glass, indicating a promising potential for white-light lasing application

Quaternary glass series of nano and micro-particles europium oxide (III), i.e. Eu2O3, of composition [{(TeO2)0.7 (B2O3)0.3}0.7 (ZnO)0.3](1-y) (EnOm)y, where EnOm is nano or micro Eu2O3 particles coded as TBZEu-NPs and TBZEu-MPs with y = 1.0–5.0 mol% was prepared by melt-quenching technique. Using the pulse-echo technique, the ultrasonic velocities of the glasses were examined. The experimental value of TBZEu-NPs longitudinal, shear, bulk, and Young's modulus ranges between 53.469 and 85.259 GPa, 21.801–24.086 GPa, 24.401–54.790 GPa, and 50.394–61.419 GPa, respectively. For the TBZEu-MPs glasses, they ranged from 46.335 to 87.365 GPa, 21.645–24.649 GPa, 17.475–54.499 GPa, and 45.959–64.260 GPa, respectively. Density and elastic properties were predicted and simulated using an artificial neural network (ANN) model. The correlation coefficients for density, elastic moduli, and Poison's ratio obtained using the ANN model range from 0.9881 to 0.9997. The fitted R-squared value is greater than 95%, and the percentage error calculated is less than 7%. The obtained results were compared to those obtained using the Makishima-Mackenzie elastic model. The prepared glass sample's physical properties and elastic constants indicate that they are sufficiently strong for laser applications
