Upsilon photoproduction at HERA compared to estimates of perturbative QCD
We estimate the cross section for gamma p -> Upsilon p by two independent
methods. First, by studying the corrections to the naive leading-order QCD
formula and, second, by using parton-hadron duality. The estimates are in good
agreement with each other and with the recent measurements of the cross section

Leading Chiral Contributions to the Spin Structure of the Proton
The leading chiral contributions to the quark and gluon components of the
proton spin are calculated using heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory.
Similar calculations are done for the moments of the generalized parton
distributions relevant to the quark and gluon angular momentum densities. These
results provide useful insight about the role of pions in the spin structure of
the nucleon, and can serve as a guidance for extrapolating lattice QCD

Small x gluon from exclusive J/psi production
Exclusive J/psi production, gamma* p -> J/psi p, offers a unique opportunity
to determine the gluon density of the proton in the small x domain. We use the
available HERA data to determine the gluon distribution in the region 10^{-4}
<~ x <~ 10^{-2} and 2 <~ Q^2 <~ 10 GeV^2, where the uncertainty on the gluon
extracted from the global parton analyses is large. The gluon density is found
to be approximately flat at the lower scale; it is compared with those of

Relativistic and Binding Energy Corrections to Direct Photon Production In Upsilon Decay
A systematic gauge-invariant method is used to calculate the rate for an
upsilon meson to decay inclusively into a prompt photon. An expansion is made
in the quark relative velocity v, which is a small natural parameter for heavy
quark systems. Inclusion of these O(v^2) corrections tends to increase the
photon rate in the middle z range and to lower it for larger z, a feature

Radiative corrections to deep-inelastic scattering. Case of tensor polarized deuteron
The model-independent radiative corrections to deep-inelastic scattering of
unpolarized electron beam off the tensor polarized deuteron target have been
considered. The contribution to the radiative corrections due to the
hard-photon emission from the elastic electron-deuteron scattering (the
so-called elastic radiative tail) is also investigated. The calculation is
based on the covariant parametrization of the deuteron quadrupole polarization
tensor. The numerical estimates of the radiative corrections to the
polarization observables have been done for the kinematical conditions of the

Proper identification of the gluon spin
Properties of the recently proposed gauge-invariant gluon spin are
studied and compared to the usually defined "gluon polarization" . By
explicit 1-loop calculations in a quark state, it is found that . Furthermore, of can actually be identified as a
"static-field" contribution and shown to cancel exactly an analogous static
term in the gluon orbital angular momentum , leaving unaltered.
These observations suggest that if properly identified, the gluon contribution

Assessing physical activity in people with mental illness: 23-country reliability and validity of the simple physical activity questionnaire (SIMPAQ)
Background: Physical inactivity is a key contributor to the global burden of disease and disproportionately impacts the wellbeing of people experiencing mental illness. Increases in physical activity are associated with improvements in symptoms of mental illness and reduction in cardiometabolic risk. Reliable and valid clinical tools that assess physical activity would improve evaluation of intervention studies that aim to increase physical activity and reduce sedentary behaviour in people living with mental illness.Methods: The five-item Simple Physical Activity Questionnaire (SIMPAQ) was developed by a multidisciplinary, international working group as a clinical tool to assess physical activity and sedentary behaviour in people living with mental illness. Patients with a DSM or ICD mental illness diagnoses were recruited and completed the SIMPAQ on two occasions, one week apart. Participants wore an Actigraph accelerometer and completed brief cognitive and clinical assessments.Results: Evidence of SIMPAQ validity was assessed against accelerometer-derived measures of physical activity. Data were obtained from 1010 participants. The SIMPAQ had good test-retest reliability. Correlations for moderate-vigorous physical activity was comparable to studies conducted in general population samples. Evidence of validity for the sedentary behaviour item was poor. An alternative method to calculate sedentary behaviour had stronger evidence of validity. This alternative method is recommended for use in future studies employing the SIMPAQ.Conclusions: The SIMPAQ is a brief measure of physical activity and sedentary behaviour that can be reliably and validly administered by health professionals
Pion and Rho Structure Functions from Lattice QCD
We calculate the lower moments of the deep-inelastic structure functions of
the pion and the rho meson on the lattice. Of particular interest to us are the
spin-dependent structure functions of the rho. The calculations are done with
Wilson fermions and for three values of the quark mass, so that we can perform

Quark Orbital-Angular-Momentum Distribution in the Nucleon
We introduce gauge-invariant quark and gluon angular momentum distributions
after making a generalization of the angular momentum density operators. From
the quark angular momentum distribution, we define the gauge-invariant and
leading-twist quark {\it orbital} angular momentum distribution . The
latter can be extracted from data on the polarized and unpolarized quark
distributions and the off-forward distribution in the forward limit. We
comment upon the evolution equations obeyed by this as well as other orbital

Generalized parton distributions in the deuteron
We introduce generalized quark and gluon distributions in the deuteron, which
can be measured in exclusive processes like deeply virtual Compton scattering
and meson electroproduction. We discuss the basic properties of these
distributions, and point out how they probe the interplay of nucleon and parton
degrees of freedom in the deuteron wave function
