    The article presents the experience of a training and orientation carried out in a lower secondary school. The overall objective of the project was carried out to assist and support the students of the third class in their choice for secondary school degree, within a structured “action path” for the orientation can evaluate and support the individual’s ability to choose, his motivations and aspirations, as well as to develop its transversal skills. The path of the results were evaluated through analysis and quantitative tools, but also with the support of qualitative analysis methods

    Tim Bartness (Fig. 1) was a friend, mentor, collaborator and leader to many scientists, younger and older, across a variety of disciplines. He died September 24, 2015 at the age of 62 after a one-year battle with multiple myeloma. Tim not only helped educate many of us, but also challenged us to think critically and to laugh heartily about both the bad and the good we experienced in life.     We study the physics of soft-core bosons at zero temperature in two dimensions for a class of potentials that could be realised in experiments with Rydberg dressed Bose-Einstein condensates. We analyze the ground state properties of the system in detail and provide a complete description of the excitation spectra in both superfluid, supersolid and crystalline phase for a wide range of interaction strengths and densities. In addition we describe a method to extract the transverse gapless excitation modes in the phases with broken translational symmetry within the framework of path integral Monte Carlo methods.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

    Exploring quantum quasicrystal patterns: a variational study

    We study the emergence of quasicrystal configurations produced purely by quantum fluctuations in the ground-state phase diagram of interacting bosonic systems. By using a variational mean-field approach, we determine the relevant features of the pair interaction potential that stabilize such quasicrystalline states in two dimensions. Unlike their classical counterpart, in which the interplay between only two wave vectors determines the resulting symmetries of the solutions, the quantum picture relates in a more complex way to the instabilities of the excitation spectrum. Moreover, the quantum quasicrystal patterns are found to emerge as the ground state with no need of moderate thermal fluctuations. The study extends to the exploration of the excitation properties and the possible existence of super-quasicrystals, i.e. supersolid-like quasicrystalline states in which the long-range non-periodic density profile coexist with a non-zero superfluid fraction. Our calculations show that, in an intermediate region between the homogeneous superfluid and the normal quasicrystal phases, these exotic states indeed exist at zero temperature. Comparison with full numerical simulations provides a solid verification of the variational approach adopted in this work.Comment: 10 pages, 6 Figure

    Broad band X-ray spectral properties of Gamma-ray bursts with BeppoSAX

    In about one year, five gamma-ray bursts were simultaneously observed with the Wide Field Cameras and Gamma Ray Burst Monitor aboard the BeppoSAX satellite. From some of them X-ray afterglow emission has been clearly detected with the same satellite. In order to understand how GRB emission is related to the X-ray afterglow, we are performing a systematic study of the spectral properties of these events.     Dressing of Ultracold Atoms by their Rydberg States in a Ioffe-Pritchard Trap

    We explore how the extraordinary properties of Rydberg atoms can be employed to impact the motion of ultracold ground state atoms. Specifically, we use an off-resonant two-photon laser dressing to map features of the Rydberg states on ground state atoms. It is demonstrated that the interplay between the spatially varying quantization axis of the considered Ioffe-Pritchard field and the fixed polarizations of the laser transitions provides the possibility of substantially manipulating the ground state trapping potential.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure

    Sotagliflozin, the first dual SGLT inhibitor. Current outlook and perspectives

    Sotagliflozin is a dual sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 and 1 (SGLT2/1) inhibitor for the treatment of both type 1 (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Sotagliflozin inhibits renal sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (determining significant excretion of glucose in the urine, in the same way as other, already available SGLT-2 selective inhibitors) and intestinal SGLT-1, delaying glucose absorption and therefore reducing post prandial glucose. Well-designed clinical trials, have shown that sotagliflozin (as monotherapy or add-on therapy to other anti-hyperglycemic agents) improves glycated hemoglobin in adults with T2D, with beneficial effects on bodyweight and blood pressure. Similar results have been obtained in adults with T1D treated with either continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion or multiple daily insulin injections, even after insulin optimization. A still ongoing phase 3 study is currently evaluating the effect of sotagliflozin on cardiovascular outcomes (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03315143). In this review we illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of dual SGLT 2/1 inhibition, in order to better characterize and investigate its mechanisms of action and potentialities

    The problem of obesity and obesity in Indonesia occurs in all socio-economic strata and age groups including toddlers. Obesity occurs because of poor diet. The increasing availability of food results in increasingly cheap food prices on the market so that one's tendency to eat will increase. Method used in this research is to use a qualitative approach carried out with the Case Study Research strategy. Data collection in this study uses a semi-structured interview method. Data collection was carried out on three participants namely mothers, fathers and grandmothers of obese children as Participants 1, 2, and 3. Results of this case study study found 3 sub themes with the results of consumption of protein, fat, and carbohydrates that were very high, those were protein 726.3% RDA, fat 371.2% RDA, and carbohydrates 206.4% RDA. Seeing the results of this study, families need to find as much information through health workers about a balanced nutritional diet that is right for preschoolers or can access information via the internet about nutritious food and the right amount is given to children, reduce milk intake to children and provide more varied food and invite children to play with friends to increase physical activity
