    Shell-Model Monte Carlo Simulations of BCS-BEC Crossover in Few-Fermion Systems

    We study a trapped system of fermions with a zero-range two-body interaction using the shell-model Monte Carlo method, providing {\em ab initio} results for the low particle number limit where mean-field theory is not applicable. We present results for the NN-body energies as function of interaction strength, particle number, and temperature. The subtle question of renormalization in a finite model space is addressed and the convergence of our method and its applicability across the BCS-BEC crossover is discussed. Our findings indicate that very good quantitative results can be obtained on the BCS side, whereas at unitarity and in the BEC regime the convergence is less clear. Comparison to N=2 analytics at zero and finite temperature, and to other calculations in the literature for N>2N>2 show very good agreement.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, Revtex4, final versio

    Determination of Anthocyaninsin Red Grape Juices Made From Different Varieties by HPLC

    This study was conducted to determine the anthocyanin profiles of red grape juice. As research material, twelve different red grape varieties which were collected from the main producing regions in Turkey and red grape juice samples made from them were analyzed. The anthocyanins peaks on HPLC-chromatograms in red grapes were identified as cyanidin-3-glucoside, delphinidin-3-glucoside, malvidin-3-glucoside, peonidin-3-glucoside and petunidin-3-glucoside. According the results, the pre-dominant anthocyanins of red grape juice was malvidin-3-glucoside which was found between 21.77-277.54 mg/L. It was followed by peonidin-3-glucoside which was found between 3.05-74.26 mg/L and then cyanidin-3-glucoside which was found between 3.02-16.94 mg/L. Delphinidin-3-glucoside and petunidin-3-glucoside were not detected in most red grape juices. This work is important to chemical description of local grape varieties and selection of suitable raw material for fruit juice industry

    Planimetry investigation of the corpus callosum in temporal lobe epilepsy patients

    Objective: To evaluate the effects of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) on corpus callosum (CC) morphometry in patients with TLE. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine, Tekirdag Namik Kemal University, Tekirdag, Turkey between November 2010 and December 2013. The epileptic syndrome diagnosis was based on International League Against Epilepsy criteria, and this study was conducted on the MRIs of 25 epilepsy patients and 25 control subjects. We classified the patients according to their duration of epilepsy: = 10 years. The projection area length (PAL) of the CC was also estimated. Total brain volumes (TBV) were measured on CT images. Results: The mean values of TBV for patients with TLE and the control group were not statistically different, but the CC PAL values were statistically different. The mean CC PAL values of under and over 25 years of age in patients with TLE were statistically different. The mean values of TBV of under and over 10 years duration of TLE were small statistically, but the CC PAL values were statistically different. Conclusion: The results indicate a clear influence of TLE on the structure of the CC rather than TBV

    Comparison of Protective Effects of Melatonin and Amifostine on Radiation-Induced Renal Oxidative Stress in Rats

    ΔΕΝ ΔΙΑΤΙΘΕΤΑΙ ΠΕΡΙΗΨΗIn this study, we aimed to compare the protective effects of melatonin and amifostine on radiation-induced oxidative stress. Fifty female Wistar rats (3-4 months old, weighing 200±25 g) were divided into five groups (with ten rats each) and treated as follows: control (Cont), radiotherapy alone (RT), radiotherapy + amifostine (RT+AMI), radiotherapy + melatonin (RT+MEL), radiotherapy + amifostine + melatonin (RT+AMI+MEL). Rats were irradiated individually with a single dose of 8 Gy and amifostine (200 mg/kg) and melatonin (10 mg/kg) was administered to rats 30 minutes before irradiation. At the end of this follow-up period (72 hours) the rats were sacrificed. Spectrophotometric Analysis has been performed to kidney tissue samples. As a result of statistical comparison between groups after RT, total antioxidant capacity (TAC) decreased, total oxidant status (TOS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) increased, although the statistically significant change was only for OSI (p = 0.030). Addition of AMI or MEL to RT increased TAC and OSI significantly (p = 0.000), but there was no additive effect for TAC and OSI when both drugs were given together (p = 1.000, p = 0.172, respectively). In terms of TOS, statistically significant increasing was only for AMI (p = 0.000). There was protective effect when both drugs were given together against on Radiation-Induced Renal Oxidative Stress
