The impact of urban sprawl on the community in Johor Bahru City is still unclear. This study involves four objectives of study, namely to analyze the psychometric level of the local lifestyle before the urban sprawl, to identify the level of urban sprawl related to the psychometric scenario of the local lifestyle of the present day, to determine the psychometric differences in the lifestyle of the community in Johor Bahru City as a result of urban sprawl, and to determine the current lifestyle psychometric differences based on the background of the community of Johor Bahru City. A survey was conducted on the head of household amongst these original inhabitants aged 45 years and over with a total of 500 respondents. This study uses descriptive analysis, T test and one way ANOVA. The findings as a whole illustrate that respondents' lifestyles are still good today that involve the constructs of value, interests, desires, beliefs, activities and overall lifestyle psychographic. However, the slight deterioration of lifestyle is the self-attitude and self-view of the people in Johor Bahru City. However, lifestyle as a whole as well as based on every lifestyle construct nowadays remains at a good level, but it has slowed down to a satisfactory level by mean value compared to before the urban sprawl. This is evidenced by the inferential statistical analysis of T test also found that the overall lifestyle aspect of the community in Johor Bahru City shows a difference between the present and the before as a result of the urban sprawl for all lifestyle constructs and overall aspects of the lifestyle itself. In the context of the respondent's background, the study found that the different factors of race, income, occupation, religion and the level of education have led to a difference in lifestyle and not to someone’s age. This study suggests that people who have lived long in the city need to jointly improve the value of lifestyle that involves self-value, self-attitudes, self-views, self-interest, self-determination, self-esteem, self-activities or daily routine and overall lifestyle psychographic

Information encoding in the spatial correlations of entangled twin beams

The ability to use the temporal and spatial degrees of freedom of quantum states of light to encode and transmit information is crucial for the implementation of a robust and efficient quantum network. In particular, the large dimensionality of the spatial degree of freedom promises to provide significant enhancements; however, such promise has largely been unfulfilled as the necessary level of control over the spatial degree of freedom to encode information remains elusive. Here, we show that information can be encoded in the distribution of the spatial correlations of highly multi-spatial mode entangled bright twin beams. We take advantage of the dependence of the spatial correlations on the angular spectrum of the pump required for four-wave mixing, as dictated by phase matching. The encoded information can be extracted by mapping the momenta distribution of the twin beams to a position distribution in the far field and measuring the spatial cross-correlation of images acquired with a high quantum efficiency electron multiplying charge coupled device. We further show that the encoded information cannot be accessed through individual beam measurements and that the temporal quantum correlations are not modified. We anticipate that the ability to engineer the distribution of the spatial correlations will serve as a novel degree of freedom to encode information and hence provide a pathway for high capacity quantum information channels and networks. In addition, a high degree of control over the spatial properties of quantum states of light will enable real-world quantum-enhanced spatially resolved sensing and imaging applications

Objective: The present study aimed to determine the effect of two elicitors namely Methyl Jasmonate (MeJ) and Salicylic acid (SA) on adventitious root production of Psoralea corylifolia L. as the elicitors and at different concentrations. Methods: Adventitious roots of P. corylifolia L. were treated with different concentration of elicitors such as MeJ (10, 20, 30 and 40 µM/l) and SA (50, 100, 150 and 200 µM/l) to enhance the psoralen contents. After the treatment, psoralen content was analyzed through the analytical HPLC experiments (Methanol: Water (50:50) at 0.8 ml/min-1 flow rate and the injection volume as 20 µl).Results: MeJ and SA treatments at the concentrations of 30 µM/l and 150 µM/l respectively were found to increase the net wet weight of adventitious root production to 8 fold at 8 hours of elicitor treatment periods. Further, the quantity of psoralen was determined from the elicitors (MeJ and SA) treated roots and mother plant through the analytical HPLC experiments in order to estimate the psoralen content and it was found as 3.73 mg/ml, 0.015 mg/ml and 0.56 mg/ml respectively. Conclusion: In the present study we achieved enhanced production of psoralen through abiotic elicitors (MeJ and SA) treatment and concluded that the MeJ at 30 µM/l concentration shows significant enhancement of psoralen production.Â

Redox-regulated chaperone function and conformational changes of Escherichia coli Hsp33

    Get PDF
We have studied the chaperone activity and conformation of Escherichia coli heat shock protein (Hsp)33, whose activity is known to be switched on by oxidative conditions. While oxidized Hsp33 completely prevents the heat-induced aggregation of ζ-crystallin at 42°C at a ratio of 1:1 (w/w), the reduced form exhibits only a marginal effect on the aggregation. Far UV–circular dichroism (CD) spectra show that reduced Hsp33 contains a significant α-helical component. Oxidation results in significant changes in the far UV–CD spectrum. Near UV–CD spectra show changes in tertiary structural packing upon oxidation. Polarity-sensitive fluorescent probes report enhanced hydrophobic surfaces in the oxidized Hsp33. Our studies show that the oxidative activation of the chaperone function of Hsp33 involves observable conformational changes accompanying increased exposure of hydrophobic pockets

Potato is the most important tuber crop in the world, with over 125 countries farming it. Potato, after rice and wheat, is the crop consumed by a billion people worldwide virtually every day. However, due to different fungal and bacterial illnesses, the quality and quantity of the potato crop is deteriorating. Early disease detection is difficult due to differences in environmental conditions, plant type, and plant disease symptoms. Several machine learning algorithms have been developed in recent study to recognize potato leaf diseases. In this work, a multi-layer deep learning model for detecting potato leaf disease is constructed. The features of the potato leaves are recovered from the image of the potato plant in the first layer using the image segmentation approach. A new deep learning technique based on a convolutional neural network [CNN] was created at the second level to detect fungal and bacterial infections in potatoes. The dataset for leaf disease contains 12000 photos gathered in real time and from the database. The proposed deep learning approaches identified potato diseases with 99.76% accurac
