Kézikönyv a filozófiáról

Az Akadémiai Kiadónál 2007 őszén megjelent Filozófiakézikönyv az elmúlt évek legszínvonalasabb összegző szakfilozófiai publikációja. A kiadvánnyal régi adósságát törleszti a honi filozófus tudóstársadalom. Az igen terjedelmesre sikeredett, teljességre törekvő kötet tíz nagy fejezetben mutatja be a filozófiatörténet fontosabb korszakait az ókortól egészen napjaink filozófiai irányzataiig, a magyar filozófiatörténet ismertetését is beleértve. A kötet főszerkesztője Boros Gábor, az ELTE Újkori és Jelenkori Filozófia Tanszékének vezetője; ez a tény már egymagában biztosíték a kötet értékére. Boros Gábor elsősorban a korábban megjelent Descartes- és Spinoza-monográfiák révén lehet ismerős az olvasók számár

A Scientist's Guide to Achieving Broader Impacts through K-12 STEM Collaboration.

The National Science Foundation and other funding agencies are increasingly requiring broader impacts in grant applications to encourage US scientists to contribute to science education and society. Concurrently, national science education standards are using more inquiry-based learning (IBL) to increase students' capacity for abstract, conceptual thinking applicable to real-world problems. Scientists are particularly well suited to engage in broader impacts via science inquiry outreach, because scientific research is inherently an inquiry-based process. We provide a practical guide to help scientists overcome obstacles that inhibit their engagement in K-12 IBL outreach and to attain the accrued benefits. Strategies to overcome these challenges include scaling outreach projects to the time available, building collaborations in which scientists' research overlaps with curriculum, employing backward planning to target specific learning objectives, encouraging scientists to share their passion, as well as their expertise with students, and transforming institutional incentives to support scientists engaging in educational outreach

Disaggregated Household Incomes in Hungary Based on the Comparative Analysis of the Reweighted Household Surveys of 2010 and 2015

In the period 2010–2015, the Hungarian employment rate recorded an outstanding increase even by European standards. During this period, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office recorded a 9 per cent increase in the number of employees, coupled with a 15.5 per cent rise in net real wages. This study presents the evolution of these indicators broken down by income groups. In addition to number of employees and labour incomes, changes in the total compensation of pension and social benefit recipients are also discussed in the study. Calculations are based on the 2010 and 2015 data waves of the household budget statistics. One disadvantage of using these data, however, is that they are distorted along the income distribution due to the phenomenon that high earners are typically represented by a low number of observations. The study presents a two-step recalibration procedure with previously unused cohort formation that addresses the aforementioned coverage deficiency with adjustment to external data sources. The material well-being of different household income groups can be tracked in the database produced by the applied method, and the macroeconomic indicators can be supplemented by pieces of distribution information. According to the results defined as the difference between the two years’ data under review, the employment growth in the interim period was determined by the employment of the two lower income quintiles. In the assessment of social benefits, with the limited information available, the chosen tool does not provide a comprehensive view of the changes in these income categories; therefore, the quantified differences between the reweighted sample years’ data should be considered with caution. Az EUTE/ESS az első társadalomtudományi kutatás, amit az Európai Unió a „legkiválóbb együttműködésen alapuló tudományos kutatás”-nak járó Descartes-díjjal tüntetett ki. Szintén az első társadalomtudományi kutatás, ami bekerült az Európai Bizottság által elfogadott „Infrastruktúrák” közé. Elkészült a 4. Hullám (2009. február – 2009. április, 1544 fő) és az 5. Hullám (2010. október 21. – 2010. december 09. 1561 fő) kérdőíves adatfelvétele. A 4. Hullám adatai bekerültek a nemzetközi adatbázisba (28 ország), az 5. Hullám Magyar adatai (és az eddig összes Magyar és nemzetközi adapt dokumentációkkal együtt) megtalálhatók a honlapunkon, a nemzetközi adatbázis (28 ország) 2011. őszére fog elkészülni. A honlapunkról az adatok egyrészt ingyenesen letölthetőek, másrészt hozzáférhetővé tettük az adatok elemzését segítő kiadványainkat, a korábban készült tanulmányokat, ábrákat is. . This is the first year that a social science project has won this prize. The ESS is also among the first social science projects to receive funding to support its infrastructure. The ESS round 5 was carried out between February 2009 and April 2009. 1544 people were interviewed during this period. The round 5 was carried out between October 2010 and December 2010 and 1561 people were interviewed in this period. The Hungarian data of the round 4 was delivered to the ESS Archive Intranet and the Central Coordinating Team of the ESS decided that it is appropriate to integrate it in the international aggregated data. The dataset of the round 5 is –such as all of the available ESS data and documentation- can be found on our website (http://www.eute.hu/. The integrated file will be ready in autumn of 2011. All of the date can be downloaded free from our webpage and we also make available our publications based on ESS data. We have created some on-line brochures: Social Register, Social Figures, The Change of Value System, Methodology Booklet, Tourism and Society, Collection of Conference Presentation, Report about the State of the Hungarian Culture.
