General post-Minkowskian expansion of time transfer functions
Modeling most of the tests of general relativity requires to know the
function relating light travel time to the coordinate time of reception and to
the spatial coordinates of the emitter and the receiver. We call such a
function the reception time transfer function. Of course, an emission time
transfer function may as well be considered. We present here a recursive
procedure enabling to expand each time transfer function into a perturbative
series of ascending powers of the Newtonian gravitational constant (general
post-Minkowskian expansion). Our method is self-sufficient, in the sense that
neither the integration of null geodesic equations nor the determination of
Synge's world function are necessary. To illustrate the method, the time
transfer function of a three-parameter family of static, spherically symmetric

Dynamical systems approach to G2 cosmology
In this paper we present a new approach for studying the dynamics of
spatially inhomogeneous cosmological models with one spatial degree of freedom.
By introducing suitable scale-invariant dependent variables we write the
evolution equations of the Einstein field equations as a system of autonomous
partial differential equations in first-order symmetric hyperbolic format,
whose explicit form depends on the choice of gauge. As a first application, we
show that the asymptotic behaviour near the cosmological initial singularity
can be given a simple geometrical description in terms of the local past
attractor on the boundary of the scale-invariant dynamical state space. The
analysis suggests the name ``asymptotic silence'' to describe the evolution of

Computational lens for the near field
A method is presented to reconstruct the structure of a scattering object from data acquired with a photon scanning tunneling microscope. The data may be understood to form a Gabor type near-field hologram and are obtained at a distance from the sample where the field is defocused and normally uninterpretable. Object structure is obtained by the solution of the inverse scattering problem within the accuracy of a perturbative, two-dimensional model of the object
Late Pleistocene sediments, landforms and events in Scotland: a review of the terrestrial stratigraphic record
Lithostratigraphical studies coupled with the development of new dating methods has led to significant progress in understanding the Late Pleistocene terrestrial record in Scotland. Systematic analysis and re-evaluation of key localities have provided new insights into the complexity of the event stratigraphy in some regions and the timing of Late Pleistocene environmental changes, but few additional critical sites have been described in the past 25 years. The terrestrial stratigraphic record remains important for understanding the timing, sequence and patterns of glaciation and deglaciation during the last glacial/interglacial cycle. Former interpretations of ice-free areas in peripheral areas during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) are inconsistent with current stratigraphic and dating evidence. Significant challenges remain to determine events and patterns of glaciation during the Early and Middle Devensian, particularly in the context of offshore evidence and ice sheet modelling that indicate significant build-up of ice throughout much of the period. The terrestrial evidence broadly supports recent reconstructions of a highly dynamic and climate-sensitive British–Irish Ice Sheet (BIIS), which apparently reached its greatest thickness in Scotland between 30 and 27ka, before the global LGM. A thick (relative to topography) integrated ice sheet reaching the shelf edge with a simple ice-divide structure was replaced after the LGM by a much thinner one comprising multiple dispersion centres and a more complex flow structure
