A Data Quality Metrics Hierarchy for Reliability Data

    Get PDF
In this paper, we describe an approach to understanding data quality issues in field data used for the calculation of reliability metrics such as availability, reliability over time, or MTBF. The focus lies on data from sources such as maintenance management systems or warranty databases which contain information on failure times, failure modes for all units. We propose a hierarchy of data quality metrics which identify and assess key problems in the input data. The metrics are organized in such a way that they guide the data analyst to those problems with the most impact on the calculation and provide a prioritised action plan for the improvement of data quality. The metrics cover issues such as missing, wrong, implausible and inaccurate data. We use examples with real-world data to showcase our software prototype and to illustrate how the metrics have helped with data preparation. Using this way, analysts can reduce the amount of wrong conclusions drawn from the data to mistakes in the input values

Distressed yet bonded: A longitudinal investigation of the COVID-19 pandemic’s silver lining effects on life satisfaction.

It is a common understanding that the 2019 coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) significantly harmed mental health. However, findings on changes in overall life satisfaction have been mixed and inconclusive. To address this puzzling phenomenon, we draw upon the domain specific perspective of well-being and research on catastrophe compassion and propose thatthe pandemic can have opposing effects on mental health and communal satisfaction, which then differently relate to people’s overall life satisfaction. Longitudinal analyses of the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics (HILDA) Survey of Australia (N = 12,093) showed that while there was a greater decrease in mental health in the first COVID-19 pandemic year (2019-2020) than in previous years (2017-2019), an increase in communal satisfaction also occurred, demonstrating a potential silver lining effect of the pandemic on people’s satisfaction with family, community and neighborhood. Moreover, consistent with socioemotional selectivity theory, changes in mental health, communal satisfaction and life satisfaction were related to age such that older adults generally reported less harmful and more beneficial psychological changes. We further found that age was associated with stronger associations of mental health and communal satisfaction with life satisfaction during the pandemic year. Overall, our findings speak to the importance of communal life in life satisfaction during the pandemic and age-related differences in the process, shedding light on the need to devise customized support to address inequalities in pandemic effects on public well-being

Retroviral Interferon- α Gene Transfer Potentiates Paclitaxel against Ovarian Cancer Cells

Objective: To analyze the cytotoxic effects of paclitaxel following introduction of the retroviral interferon- α (IFN- α) gene into epithelial ovarian cancer cells.Design: Experimental molecular study.Setting: University hospital research center. Sample: Epithelial ovarian cancer cell lines OV-2774 and SKOV3. Empty vector was used as control. Methods: The cytotoxic effects of paclitaxel on ovarian cancer cells were studied prior to and after transfection with the retrovirus-mediated inteferon- α gene. RT/PCR of the interferon gene, cell survival and cell death were analyzed to assess retroviral interferon- α gene expression after transfection. Results: Paclitaxel inhibited cell growth in a dose dependent manner with half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 7.5 ng/ml. Retroviral inteferon- α gene transfer-transduced cells potentiated paclitaxel response against both ovarian cancer cell lines by 68%.Conclusion:  Retrovirus-mediated IFN- α gene transfer enhanced paclitaxel cytotoxicity on ovarian cancer cells. Retroviral IFN- α gene transfer in combination with paclitaxel may have significant clinical utility for the treatment of epithelial ovarian cancers

Drug Induced Pneumonitis Secondary to Treatment with Paritaprevir/Ritonavir/Ombitasvir and Dasabuvir (VIEKIRA PAK®) for Chronic Hepatitis C: Case Report of an Unexpected Life-Threatening Adverse Reaction

VIEKIRA PAK (ritonavir-boosted paritaprevir/ombitasvir and dasabuvir) is an approved treatment for compensated patients with genotype 1 (GT1) chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. This oral regimen has minimal adverse effects and is well tolerated. Cure rates are 97% in patients infected with HCV GT 1a and 99% in those with HCV GT 1b. We report the first case of life-threatening allergic pneumonitis associated with VIEKIRA PAK. This unexpected serious adverse event occurred in a 68-year-old Chinese female with genotype 1b chronic hepatitis C and Child-Pugh A cirrhosis. One week into treatment with VIEKIRA PAK without ribavirin, she was admitted to hospital with respiratory distress and acute kidney injury requiring intensive care input. She was initially diagnosed with community acquired pneumonia and improved promptly with intravenous antibiotics and supported care. No bacterial or viral pathogens were cultured. Following complete recovery, she recommenced VIEKIRA PAK but represented 5 days later with more rapidly progressive respiratory failure, requiring intubation and ventilation, inotropic support, and haemodialysis. The final diagnosis was drug induced pneumonitis
