    EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING: SELF-EFFICACY OF STUDENTSā€”INSTRUCTORS IN AN ADAPTED DANCE PROGRAM

    poster abstractObjective: Experiential learning (EL) within an adapted dance program may produce increased self-efficacy in instructing or working with different populations such as disabled or culturally diverse individuals. The purpose of this study was to examine responses in participation with an adapted physi-cal activity (PA) dance program for young individuals with Down syndrome. Methods: To explore the experience of the student-volunteers, self-efficacy surveys were conducted before and after the six-week dance pro-gram. Using a Likert scale, students scored their perceived self-efficacy in individual and team instruction of PA in a variety of populations such as ur-ban settings, cardiac rehabilitation, children, and individuals with disabilities. Additionally, journal reflections were used to explore the question, ā€œWhat did/does this experience mean to you?ā€ Journal reflections were analyzed for themes and patterns using the guidelines for interpretative phenomenologi-cal analysis. Results: Results indicated that self-efficacy increased in instructing PA to the population involved in the dance program. Significant increases (P<.005) were also noted in oneā€™s perceived ability to team instruct cardiac rehabilita-tion, high school students, general population, and children; as well as oneā€™s perceived ability to individually instruct high-risk individuals, cardiac rehabili-tation, and children. Qualitative data from journal reflections suggest the fol-lowing themes: dancers taught student-volunteers life lessons, student-volunteers gained experience with different populations, student-volunteers gained teaching experience. Conclusion: Students involved in an EL program working with adapted populations, self-efficacy may increase not only in working with individuals with disabilities but may also increase self-efficacy in working with other populations. Studentsā€™ perception of the experience suggests that the EL ex-perience within the dance program through structured activities is impactful to personal and professional growth. Findings suggest that further studies may be needed to indicate the minimal duration of an EL experience needed to improve self-efficacy. Overall, studentsā€™ feelings toward the population suggest growth toward more civic-mindedness

    Multi-Year Environmental Trends of Shrimp Black Gill (Hyalophysa lynni) Prevalence in Texas Gulf Coast Shrimp Populations

    Shrimp Black Gill, caused by the apostome ciliate Hyalophysa lynni, is an emerging disease impacting penaeid shrimp populations along the southeast Atlantic Coast and the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). Changing annual environmental conditions may drive infection levels of this parasitic ciliate in these populations, which comprise one of the largest fisheries in the United States. Hyalophysa lynni is established on the Texas Gulf Coast, and prevalence of this parasite has a strong seasonal and spatial trend, likely linked with high temperature and a wide range of estuarine salinities. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department monitored shrimp black gill in 2 penaeid shrimp species, Litopenaeus setiferus and Farfantepenaeus aztecus in 2019, with the aim of observing trends in prevalence along spatial and temporal scales. Hyalophysa lynni was found in all 7 bay systems throughout the study period, and this study is a continuation of that monitoring effort, adding 2 years of data collection (2020 and 2021) to prior research. Throughout the entire sampling period (2019ā€“2021) and coastwide, H. lynni was found in 66% of all shrimp samples collected, although prevalence varied annually. Boosted regression tree modeling indicated that low salinity, high temperature, and time of year (late spring through fall) had a significant relationship with H. lynni prevalence in shrimp along the Texas Gulf Coast. Shrimp Black Gill is likely to continue to be present in GOM shrimp populations, and annual precipitation events and increased water temperatures may amplify the population morbidity within any given year

    Lithostratigraphy of the Grant Lake Limestone and Grant Lake Formation (Upper Ordovician) in Southwestern Ohio

    Author Institution: Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological SurveyThe Grant Lake Limestone, including, in ascending order, the Bellevue, the Corryville, and the Straight Creek Members, and the Grant Lake Formation, including, in ascending order, the Bellevue, the Corryville, and the Mount Auburn Members, are herein defined as lithostratigraphic units in southwestern Ohio. Regional bedrock mapping, shale-percentage and geophysical logs, and mean shale percentage of lithostratigraphic units demonstrate a progressive change from a limestone-dominant stratigraphic section in the Maysville, KY, region to a shale-dominant stratigraphic section in the Cincinnati, OH, region. The Grant Lake Limestone is redefined to account for the progressive decrease in limestone content observed northwestward away from Maysville, KY. The Grant Lake Formation is introduced to describe the shaledominant lateral equivalent of the Grant Lake Limestone in the Cincinnati, OH, region. The Bellevue Limestone, the Corryville Formation, and the Mount Auburn Formation are reduced to members because, in some cases, they are not mappable at 1:62,500 or smaller scales. The Straight Creek Member is introduced to describe the limestone-dominant lateral equivalent of the shale-dominant Mount Auburn Member. The limestone-dominant and shale-dominant lithologies of the Grant Lake Limestone and the Grant Lake Formation can be recognized in shale-percentage and geophysical logs. Correlation between logs led to recognition of these stratigraphic units in the subsurface of southwestern Ohio

    Each year one in three adults \u3e 65 years old falls which results in significant morbidity, mortality and health care costs. Commonly used balance tests such as the Balance Evaluation Systems Test, Berg Balance Scale and Tinetti produce numerical results that have been correlated with a fall history. However, these tests can be complicated, time consuming, require a large amount of space, may require special tools for assessment and exhibit a ceiling effect.     Making and being made: wise humanising creativity in interdisciplinary early years arts education.

    This paper focuses on how wise humanising creativity (WHC) is manifested within early years interdisciplinary arts education. It draws on Arts Council-funded participatory research by Devon Carousel Project and University of Exeterā€™s Graduate School of Education. It is grounded in previous AHRC-funded research, which conceptualised WHC in the face of educational creativity/performativity tensions. WHC articulates the dialogic embodied interrelationship of creativity and identity ā€“ creators are ā€˜making and being madeā€™; they are 'becoming'. The research used a qualitative methodology to create open-ended spaces of dialogue or ā€˜Living Dialogic Spacesā€™ framed by an ecological model to situate the teamā€™s different positionings. Data collection included traditional qualitative techniques and arts-based techniques. Data analysis involved inductive/deductive conversations between existing theory and emergent themes. Analysis indicated that ā€˜making and being madeā€™, and other key WHC features were manifested. We conclude by suggesting that WHC can help develop understanding of how creative arts practice supports the breadth of young childrenā€™s development, and the role of the creativity-identity dialogue within that, as well as indicating what the practice and research has to offer beyond the Early Years.This work was supported by the Arts Council England (Grant Number 25073915), Devon County Council and Exeter City Council.     Penaeid Shrimp in Chesapeake Bay: Population Growth and Black Gill Disease Syndrome

    Since 1991, the number of penaeid shrimp occurring in Virginia waters of Chesapeake Bay has steadily increased, prompting an interest in developing a fishery. Although development of a shrimp fishery in the Chesapeake Bay region could bring economic benefits, the fishery may be hampered by the presence of a disease syndrome known as shrimp black gill (sBG). The objectives of our study were to (1) describe the spatial distribution and abundance patterns of shrimp in Chesapeake Bay, (2) relate relative abundance of shrimp to habitat characteristics, and (3) determine the presence and seasonality of sBG to better understand disease dynamics in the region. Subadult penaeid shrimp were collected monthly from Virginia waters by trawl from 1991 to 2017, and individuals were identified to species and counted. White shrimp Litopenaeus setiferus were the most numerous species captured, followed by brown shrimp Farfantepenaeus aztecus and pink shrimp F. duorarum. Shrimp were captured primarily from July to December. White shrimp were the only species that exhibited visible signs of sBG, which was first observed in October 2016 (13.4% prevalence); the condition continued into November and recurred the following year. Shrimp with visible signs of gill disease were examined by microscopy, histology, and PCR assay and were diagnosed with infections of a histophagous apostome ciliate, presumably Hyalophysa lynni. Any impacts of sBG on shrimp survival or marketability should be considered in fishery management plans to ensure sustainability of the resource

    Memory concerns in the early Alzheimerā€™s disease prodrome: Regional association with tau deposition

    Introduction: Relationship between self- and informant memory concerns and tau aggregation was assessed in adults at risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods: Regional mean standardized uptake value ratios were extracted from [18F]flortaucipir positron emission tomography (PET) scans of 82 at-risk adults in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) cohort. Associations between self- and informant ECog memory scores and tau aggregation were analyzed on both regional and voxelwise bases. Analyses were completed both on the whole sample and restricted to amyloid-positive individuals only. Results: Memory concerns were associated with tau aggregation. Self-perception was more associated with frontal tau. In contrast, informant scores were more associated with parietal tau. This source-by-region interaction was more prominent in amyloid-positive participants and observed in both regional and voxelwise analyses. Discussion: Quantitative assessment of perceived memory functioning may be useful for screening older adults at risk for Alzheimer's disease.     Results of the 2016 Indianapolis Biodiversity Survey, Marion County, Indiana

    Surprising biodiversity can be found in cities, but urban habitats are understudied. We report on a bioblitz conducted primarily within a 24-hr period on September 16 and 17, 2016 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. The event focused on stretches of three waterways and their associated riparian habitat: Fall Creek (20.6 ha; 51 acres), Pleasant Run (23.5 ha; 58 acres), and Pogueā€™s Run (27.1 ha; 67 acres). Over 75 scientists, naturalists, students, and citizen volunteers comprised 14 different taxonomic teams. Five hundred ninety taxa were documented despite the rainy conditions. A brief summary of the methods and findings are presented here. It interrogates how different materialities and spatialities shape learning to reā€create practices to better respond to societal challenges. This is situated within an imperative to move away from Westernā€dominated approaches to pedagogy and research, where ā€œWesternā€ is characterized as ontoā€epistemological rather than placeā€based. The study draws on postqualitative enquiry into two creative, transdisciplinary HE courses, which entwined the arts, sciences, and entrepreneurship to facilitate responses to societal problems. Framed using posthumanizing creativity, the research aims to decenter the human and posit creativity as a dialogic, intraā€active process with the capacity to change education from within. A postqualitative approach works through three data diffractions. The first two involve glow moments used for collaging, cut through with theory. The third diffraction involves glow moments from which a short dance film was created. The study aims to stir readers/engagers to action their creativity as feeding forward into their own work in HE pedagogies, to consider how to move beyond the word, and the influences all of this can have on reimagining practices and changing structures.European Commissio
