    Wireless Sensor Network is a wireless network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous devices using sensors to cooperatively monitor physical or environmental conditions. Wireless sensors networks (WSNs) can operate in harsh environments in which actual monitoring by human being are risky, inefficient and sometimes infeasible. This is the main advantages of WSN. In most of the cases, replenishment of batteries might be impossible. That2019;s why lifetime of WSN shows a very strong dependency on battery lifetime. So an important issue in sensor networks is power scarcity, which depends on battery size and weight limitations of WSN node. Energy-aware algorithms are designed for extending the lifetime of wireless sensor network. Different mechanisms can be used to optimize the energy of sensors and they have a great impact on prolonging the network lifetime. Energy minimization techniques can be used at routing, clustering and sensor scheduling etc

    In silico comparative analysis of conserved genes expressed in solanaceous plants under abiotic stresses

    The gene expression data was studied in order to analyze genes involved in different abiotic stresses in solanaceous plants. Salt, temperature (heat & cold) and drought are the main abiotic stresses to the plants. Abiotic stress responses are important for sessile organisms like plants because they have to cope with environmental changes to survive. The idea was to analyze those differentially expressed genes, which show common expression in response to different abiotic stress conditions in each plant. Mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPK) are important mediators in signal transmission, connecting the perception of external stimuli to cellular responses. In plants, MAPKs plays a major role in the signaling of abiotic stresses. The expression data were retrieved from gene expression omnibus (GEO) database at NCBI. The set of genes were selected showing up or down regulation in at least two abiotic stresses. These genes were used for searching their involvement in different steps of MAP kinase pathway. Our findings suggest that a common set of genes are the key players in signaling pathway responsible for initiation of cascade of reaction in response to stress. The study will help to understand how the conserved genes are expressing differentially in response to various abiotic stresses. The common genes affecting the MAP kinase pathway might be highly conserved. These genes may be used to study the response of different abiotic stresses in other plant species

    Unveiling the structural features of CysE: a novel target for therapeutic interventions against persistent mycobacteria

    World Health Organization (WHO) reports that one-third of the world’s population is infected with a persistent form of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb), the causative bacterium responsible for causing the dreaded tuberculosis disease. Targeting mycobacterial persisters is important for achieving WHO’s End TB target. The de-novo cysteine biosynthetic pathway is a novel target for addressing M.tb persistence.  The two-step pathway comprises of serine acetyltransferase/CysE and O-acetyl-serine-sulfhydrylase/OASS/CysK. The present study is an attempt to understand the structural features of mycobacterial CysE by investigating the divergence amongst orthologous through phylogenetic analysis. Mapping of mycobacterial CysE sequences on the whole orthologous (COG1045) tree segregated the species into four clusters and several isoforms leading to their descendants identification. Interestingly the analysis revealed that the extended C-terminal α-helix believed unique to M.tb is also present in other organisms such as: Campylobacter ureolyticus, Bacillus cereus, Geminocystis herdmanii and Paenibacillus borealis. Further, the Hidden Markov model search against the whole Uniprot database suggests a plausible role of C-terminal α-helix of CysE in strengthening the substrate and/or co-factor binding. In addition, phylogenetic analysis of CysE sequences from the Mycobacteriaceae family facilitates grouping them under ten well-formed and six monophyletic clades, each based on characteristic features with respect to domain architecture, oligomeric assembly, C-terminal tetra-peptide tail, regulatory and feedback mechanism etc. Employing molecular phylogeny in conjunction with structural analysis has provided detailed insights for mycobacterial CysEs as drug target

    Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma of maxilla : a rare case report

    Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma (MC) is a rare variant of chondrosarcoma (CS) that accounts for upto 3-9% of all CS and has high predilection for the head and neck region. It is usually seen in younger age group compared to conventional CS and maxillary anterior alveolus is the most common site. The tumor is most unusual as it has been described as a particularly aggressive neoplasm with a high tendency for late recurrence and delayed metastasis. It is a biphasic tumor with areas comprising of spindle cell mesenchyme interspread with areas of chondroid differentiation. A 75 year old male presented to us as a painless mass in maxilla. Contrast enhanced computed tomography (CECT) revealed a lytic expansile lesion in the left maxillary bone with foci of calcification within soft tissue lesion. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and incisional biopsy was performed which confirmed the diagnosis of maxillary MC. The patient underwent right and left subtotal maxillectomy with 2 cm margins. The review of literature shows that very few cases of maxillary MC have been reported so far. Thus an attempt is made to add this rare case of MC of maxillary alveolus in the English literature. © Medicina Oral S. L

    AbstractAbdominal tuberculosis (TB) is the sixth commonest extra-pulmonary TB form after lymphatic, genitourinary, bone and joint, miliary and meningeal tuberculosis. We are presenting a rare case in a young female of age 7 year diagnosed as peritonitis and intestinal obstruction. Operative findings revealed dense fibrosis in interloops and perforation of the small bowel. She was put on antitubercular treatment for one year. Patient was discharged in satisfactory condition and is in follow up for 2 months

    METABOLIC SYNDROME IN FEMALE WORKERS FROM A TEXTILE MILL: EFFECT OF NOISE

    Objective: Noise creates alteration in human health in both physical as well as psychological variations. Effect of noise on components of metabolic syndrome (MetS) has been discussed but not well established. The aim of this study was to investigate the MetS in female workers from textile mill.Methods: A total of 65 female workers were recruited for the study from the high noise (>70 dB) area and low noise (<40 dB) area of a textile mill. Body mass index (BMI), blood pressure (BP), blood sugar (BS), and lipid profile were investigated of the female workers. BP was estimated by auscultatory method. BS was investigated by glucose oxidase-peroxidase (POD) method. Total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were investigated by cholesterol oxidase (CHOD)-POD method, GPO- PAP method, CHOD-POD/phosphotungustate method, and friedewald formula, respectively.Results: Significant outcomes were obtained in this study. BMI was significantly (<0.01) higher in workers working in high noise area compared to low noise (<40 dB) area. Systolic BP and diastolic BP was also significantly (<0.01) higher in high noise area. Fasting BS level was found to be significantly (<0.01) lower in low noise area. In case of lipid profile significant (<0.01) results were obtained except LDL-C. TC and TG were found to be related with noise since their concentration was higher in high noise area compared to low noise area. However, HDL-C was found to be lower in high noise area compared to low noise area.Conclusion: Continuous exposure to occupational noise might be reason for developing cardiovascular disease depending on the degree of MetS in industrial workers. BP and BS seems to be better predictor of MetS in assessing cardiovascular risk.Keywords: Occupational noise, Metabolic syndrome, Dyslipidemia

    A forty four years old male patient presented with headache and dizziness in our outpatient department. On examination, he had pulse rate of 96 /min, blood pressure of 122/80 mmHg, JVP was not raised. He had clubbing and cyanosis on General physical examination. On auscultation pansystolic murmur was heard all over the chest. His respiratory and abdominal examination was normal. There were no significant findings on electrocardiography and skiagram chest. Echocardiography revealed ventricular septal defect with overriding of aorta, pulmonary artery could not be visualised. On computrized tomography pulmonary angiography revealed Ventricular septal defect with overriding of aorta. The main and  normally confluent right and left pulmonary arteries were not visualize

    Ayurveda is about 3000 years old and is increasingly becoming popular. It is a holistic treatment modality which has been successfully used to cure various oral and systemic diseases. The role of Ayurveda and its beneficial effects have also been extensively seen in the maintenance of oral health. Numerous Ayurvedic herbs have been listed in different manuscripts along with their beneficial effects. The present review focuses on various Ayurvedic herbs used in dentistry with their promising effects on oral cavity i.e., strengthening the gingival and periodontal health, preventing tooth decay, eliminating halitosis and in management of various oral mucosal lesions. The numerous beneficial effects of these phytochemicals have been listed in detail. However, many of these Ayurvedic herbs are still under study and their beneficial roles are yet to be stated
