AIM: The aim of the study was to evaluate the level of awareness and attitude for eye donation among medical students of Qassim University. METHODS: All medical students of Qassim University were invited to participate in this cross-sectional study in 2019. The survey contains 10 questions regarding knowledge for different aspects of eye donation, one question on their attitude to donate eye, and one question to specify reasons for reservation for eye donation which were inquired. Awareness score of 50% and more was defined as “good awareness.” Awareness was associated to variables such as gender, grade of medical school, and if they attended ophthalmology course. RESULTS: Of the 600 students, 386 were surveyed. The good knowledge regarding eye donation was in 19.2% (95% CI 15.2; 23.1) participants. Attitude to donate eye was positive in 102 (26.4% [95% CI 22.0; 30.8]) participants. One hundred and seventy-nine (46.5%) participants were undecided for eye donation. The level of knowledge was positively and significantly associated to attitude to donate eyes. (OR = 2.44 [95% CI 1.4; 4.2], p = 0.001). The awareness was not associated to gender (p = 0.97) and years in medical college (p = 0.6). Attending ophthalmology course did not significantly affect the knowledge about eye donation (p = 0.8). Lack of adequate information was the main barrier among 146 (37.6%) students for their unwillingness for eye donation. CONCLUSIONS: Awareness about eye donation among medical students was low. Health promotion, inclusion of eye donation in undergraduate curriculum, and ophthalmic training are recommended to improve both knowledge and attitude of medical studen

A genetic algorithm approach for timetabling problem: the time group strategy

    Get PDF
The university timetabling problems (TTP) deal with the scheduling of the teaching program. Over the last decade variant of Genetic Algorithm (GA) approaches have been used to solve various types of TTP with great success. Most of the approaches are problem dependent, applied only to the institutions where they were designed. In this paper we proposed time group strategy and Simple GA (TGGA) to solve highly constrained TTP. The proposed model promises to solve highly constrained timetabling with less effort. The model is tested and results are discussed

Framework for airport outbound passenger flow modelling

    Get PDF
This paper focusses upon passenger flow issues within airport terminals and includes all activities occurring between curb-side and boarding. To improve passenger flow and associated planning activities, a simulation framework is developed using Discrete-Event Simulation (DES). The DES is built using ExtendSim V9.2 simulator software from Imagine That. The model can be used to evaluate the efficiency of the outbound operational processes including check-in, security screening, immigration & custom and boarding. It can also assist management to identify potential bottlenecks in the system. The main input of the model is the flight schedule. A case study of the Brisbane international airport was analysed

Novel genetic algorithm towards implementing a lining-layout optimization strategy.

This paper presents the strategies for optimizing planting areas. The three strategies considered for preparing field lining; 1) 600 line-direction 2) selecting the best line-direction for single block and 3) selecting the best line-directions for many separate blocks, might lead to different numbers of trees. Thus, an application named Lining-Layout Planning by Intelligent Computerized System(LLP-ICS) is introduced to choose the best strategy. Because there are many possible solutions with ambiguous results, a novelty of Genetic Algorithm (GA) for lining-layout with focusing on the two approaches which are 1) assigning the determined random values to the genes of chromosome, 2)avoiding the same solution of optimal blocks occurs, was applied to suggest the optimal solution intelligently. The aim of this study was to suggest the best strategy among the various area coordinates tested. In addition, the capability of the application by novel GA was also examined. The results indicated that the LLP-ICS produces a consistent solution with feasible results and less number of repetition processes led to reduce the computation time

    New Single Asymmetric Error-Correcting Codes

    Get PDF
New single asymmetric error-correcting codes are proposed. These codes are better than existing codes when the code length n is greater than 10, except for n = 12 and n = 15 . In many cases one can construct a code C containing at least [2^n/n] codewords. It is known that a code with |C| >= [2^n/(n + 1)] can be easily obtained. It should be noted that the proposed codes for n = 12 and n = 15 are also the best known codes that can be explicitly constructed, since the best of the existing codes for these values of n are based on combinatorial arguments. Useful partitions of binary vectors are also presented

IoMT-Blockchain based Secured Remote Patient Monitoring Framework for Neuro-Stimulation Device

Biomedical Engineering's Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is helping to improve the accuracy, dependability, and productivity of electronic equipment in the healthcare business. Real-time sensory data from patients may be delivered and subsequently analyzed through rapid development of wearable IoMT devices, such as neuro-stimulation devices with a range of functions. Data from the Internet of Things is gathered, analyzed, and stored in a single location. However, single-point failure, data manipulation, privacy difficulties, and other challenges might arise as a result of centralization. Due to its decentralized nature, blockchain (BC) can alleviate these issues. The viability of establishing a non-invasive remote neurostimulation system employing IoMT-based transcranial Direct Current Stimulation is investigated in this work (tDCS). A hardware-based prototype tDCS device has been developed that can be operated over the internet using an android application. Our suggested framework addresses the problems of IoMTBC-based systems, meets the criteria of real-time remote patient monitoring systems, and incorporates literature best practices in the relevant fields.Comment: 8 Figures and 2 Table

Prelimanary study on designing optimal lining layout by metaheuristic approaches for optimizing planting areas

    Get PDF
This paper presents an investigation on application of metaheuristic approaches to handle the optimization of planting areas with regards to Lining Layout Planning (LLP). Metaheuristic is approximate solution that sacrifice the guarantee of finding an optimal solution. However, it is an appropriate approach to be employed in two basic situations: 1. a problem may not has an exact method because of ambiguities in the problem statement, 2. a problem may has an axact solution but computational cost of finding it may be prohibitive. The optimization startegy in LLP is to optimize a planting area by looking for the best line direction to be assigned into determining blocks with attention to minimize unused space and maximize number of tree. However, there are many possible solutions to be analyzed will eventually spend high time is a challenge. Therefore, the applicabilty of approaches to overcome this problem was investigated and simulated result was reported. We found that the exact solution methods are suitable for LLP with one block but many blocks with weighted consideration will increase time exponentially and metaheuristic approaches are considered as the appropriate technique
