Studies on tensile properties of titanium carbide (TiC) particulates composites

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to determine the tensile properties of titanium carbide (TiC) particulate reinforced with aluminium alloy 11.8% silicon (LM6) alloy composite. In this experimental study, TiC particulates reinforced with LM6 composite were manufactured by sand and permanent metallic mould methods. Tensile properties of these composite materials were investigated by different weight percentages, 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%wt. The tensile tests were conducted to determine tensile strength and modulus young to investigate the effects of reinforce materials on weight percentages. The outcome of the investigations reveals that the tensile strength is enhanced from 0wt% to 10wt% of TiC and start to decrease after the addition of 10wt% of TiC. Good bonding and wettability between the composites ranging from 0%wt. to 10%wt. of TiC influence the close distribution of TiC particles in the LM6 alloy matrix. The addition of 10%wt. to 20%wt. of TiC in LM6 alloy matrix cause the lower resistance and load-bearing capacity and the particle are no longer isolated with the LM6 alloy matrix causing the worse value of tensile strength

    Get PDF
The effects of subjecting solidifying particulate reinforced aluminium alloy matrix composite to various sources of vibration on the resulting casting quality, a mechanical vibration technique for inducing vibration resulting in enhanced mechanical properties, such as impact properties is devised. TiC particulate reinforced LM6 alloy matrix composites are fabricated by different particulate weight fraction of titanium dioxide and microstructure studies were conducted to determine the impact strength and density, respectively. Preliminary works show that the mechanical properties have been improved by using vibration mold during solidification compared to gravity castings without vibration

Computer simulation is widely used and conventional in manufacturing as a way to improve the manufactured goods quality as at same time plummeting invention costs, development time and scrap. In this study, three-dimensional model have been developed to simulate the filling and the solidification pattern in an aluminum casting with “AnyCasting” software. Using this software, solidification of aluminium 11.8% Si alloy in sand and metal mould was simulated and the results were compared with the experimental results. The solidification time and temperature was experimentally determined from thermocouple located at diverse distances. A data logger is used in experiment to gain the temperature division contour during the process of solidification of the aluminium 11.8% Si alloy. Experiments were set up to legalize the simulation results and it is confirm that the results from the two mould methods be in good agreement and the solidification of cast aluminium alloy using copper mould was much faster compared to the one cast sand mould. From this work it is concluded that simulation using AnyCasting software can be use to initially calculate. The simulation shows result that matches with the experimental data qualitatively and therefore the validation procedure is successful

Vibrational moulding process has a remarkable effect on the properties of castings during solidification processing of metals, alloys, and composites. This research paper discusses on the investigation of mechanical vibration mould effects on the tensile properties of titanium carbide particulate reinforced LM6 aluminium alloy composites processed with the frequencies of 10.2 Hz, 12 Hz and 14 Hz. In this experimental work, titanium carbide particulate reinforced LM6 composites were fabricated by carbon dioxide sand moulding process. The quantities of titanium carbide particulate added as reinforcement in the LM6 alloy matrix were varied from 0.2% to 2% by weight fraction. Samples taken from the castings and tensile tests were conducted to determine the tensile strength and modulus of elasticity. The results showed that tensile strength of the composites increased with an increase in the frequency of vibration and increasing titanium carbide particulate reinforcement in the LM6 alloy matrix

The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of school location and professional qualification on levels of giving feedback among primary school mathematics teachers in oral questioning. This study is a quantitative study using survey methods. Questionnaires were used in this study to collect data on the level of giving feedback in the verbal questioning of primary school teachers and to see the difference in the level of responding to verbal questioning based on school location and professional qualification of mathematics teachers (with Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.91). A total of 154 primary school mathematics teachers around the state Negeri Sembilan were selected as samples for this study using simple random sampling methods. The findings were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis to answer the research questions.El propósito de este estudio es explorar el impacto de la ubicación de la escuela y la calificación profesional en los niveles de retroalimentación entre los maestros de matemáticas de la escuela primaria en las preguntas orales. The findings were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis to answer the research questions. Based on two-way ANOVA test, the interaction effect between school location and profesional qualification was not statistically significant, F (2, 152) = 1.069, p = 0.346. Besides, there was no statistically significant main effect for school location F (1, 152) = 0.741, p = 0.391 and professional qualification F (2,152) = 2.244, p = 0.110 on levels of giving feedback in oral questioning activity among primary school mathematics teachers. The importance of this study is it provides guide and understanding of primary school mathematics teachers to improve the practice of feedback in oral questioning during the teaching and learning process of mathematics. Furthermore, there are reasonable implications to be taken into account by the policy makers and implementers associated with teachers’ professional development

Incorporation of iron oxide into CNT/GNF as a high performance supercapacitor electrode

    Get PDF
CNT/GNF/Fe₂O₃ ternary composites were synthesized via a simple hydrothermal route. The electrochemical findings reveal that the incorporation of iron oxide (Fe₂O₃) into CNT/GNF (174 F g⁻ˡ) boosts the specific capacitance (Cs) to 307 F g⁻ˡ at 10 mV s⁻ˡ. The system also shows good capacity retention, as it maintained 92% of its original capacitance after 200 cyclic voltammetry cycles. Physicochemical characterization shows that Fe₂O₃ was anchored randomly on the CNT/GNF sidewalls, forming a network for facile ion diffusion. The improved supercapacitance of CNT/GNF/Fe₂O₃ can be ascribed to the synergistic effect of the double-layer capacitance of CNT/GNF and the pseudocapacitance of Fe₂O₃

This study presents an implementation of concurrent engineering (CE) and an analytical network process to form a new rating method as part of the manufacturing process and material analysis in the product development environment. The proposed procedure is referred to as a concurrent network (CN). It is planned for CN to carry out simultaneous analysis of all aspects of product elements by using CE strategy. Furthermore, CN enables interdependence and interrelationship analysis between product elements by implementing ANP. In this study, CN is utilized for the manufacturing process and material analysis of a metal matrix composites (MMCs) automotive component which is the brake disc. The results show that by using CN, all the product parameters can be analyzed comprehensively and the importance weights of the product parameters with regard to the MMCs brake disc performance are obtained. It is concluded that in the manufacturing process cluster the primary process parameter has the highest score, while in the material cluster the ranking is dominated by mechanical properties. This means that these sub-conceptual parameters are the most important ones to consider in order to achieve the required performance of the product
