Theoretical prediction of CNT-CF/PP composite tensile properties using various numerical modeling methods

    Get PDF
Development of effective models to predict tensile properties of ‘carbon nanotube coated carbon fibre reinforced polypropylene (CNT-CF/PP)’ composites is briefly discussed. The composite taken as the reference is based on the highest growth mechanism of CNTs over carbon fibres. Halpin-Tsai and Combined Voigt-Reuss model has been implemented. Young's modulus for CNT-CF/PP composites has been found 4.5368 GPa and the tensile strength has been estimated 45.367 MPa considering the optimum operating condition of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique. Stiffness of the composite is represented through the stress-strain plots; stiffness is proportional to the steepness of the slope. There are slight deviations of results that have been found theoretically over the experimental issues

Reducing the environmental impact of surgery on a global scale: systematic review and co-prioritization with healthcare workers in 132 countries

Background Healthcare cannot achieve net-zero carbon without addressing operating theatres. The aim of this study was to prioritize feasible interventions to reduce the environmental impact of operating theatres. Methods This study adopted a four-phase Delphi consensus co-prioritization methodology. In phase 1, a systematic review of published interventions and global consultation of perioperative healthcare professionals were used to longlist interventions. In phase 2, iterative thematic analysis consolidated comparable interventions into a shortlist. In phase 3, the shortlist was co-prioritized based on patient and clinician views on acceptability, feasibility, and safety. In phase 4, ranked lists of interventions were presented by their relevance to high-income countries and low–middle-income countries. Results In phase 1, 43 interventions were identified, which had low uptake in practice according to 3042 professionals globally. In phase 2, a shortlist of 15 intervention domains was generated. In phase 3, interventions were deemed acceptable for more than 90 per cent of patients except for reducing general anaesthesia (84 per cent) and re-sterilization of ‘single-use’ consumables (86 per cent). In phase 4, the top three shortlisted interventions for high-income countries were: introducing recycling; reducing use of anaesthetic gases; and appropriate clinical waste processing. In phase 4, the top three shortlisted interventions for low–middle-income countries were: introducing reusable surgical devices; reducing use of consumables; and reducing the use of general anaesthesia. Conclusion This is a step toward environmentally sustainable operating environments with actionable interventions applicable to both high– and low–middle–income countries

Land Use Charge is one of the sources through which Lagos State Government is using to generate revenue internally by taxing both commercial and residential properties in the State in a bid to fund the provision of infrastructural facilities and other services within the State. Land Use Charge is a form of property taxation that was first enacted in 2001 and reviewed in 2018 in a bid to make the law more effective. This study was set out to ascertain the perception of the stakeholders on the operation and incidents of the Land Use Charge as currently being implemented by the Lagos State Government. To achieve the aim of the study, data were obtained through structured questionnaires administered on Sixty-one (61) respondent Estate Surveyors and Valuers and One Hundred and fifty (150) Residents within the study area. The data obtained were analysed with the aid of simple statistical tools such as frequency, percentage and relative importance index. The study revealed the current basis of assessment to be grossly inequitable as a form of taxation and amounts to double taxation on the part of the taxpayers. The study also revealed the current basis of assessment as being responsible for the increase in the tenants’ rents. In conclusion, the study recommends the urgent need for the law to be reviewed and the new basis of assessment to be on the net annual income received from a property on an annual basis and the need for collaboration by the State Government with the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) in order to come up with more equitable law regarding Land Use Charge in the State which will ensure that tax is equitable and is carried out in line with current economic realities of the property market as a whole in the country

A short analysis on the morphological characterization of colloidal quantum dots for photovoltaic applications

    No full text
Due to its various advantages, colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) carry a prodigious deal of interest in low-cost photovoltaics. The possibility of tailored band gaps via quantum confinement effect facilitates photovoltaic devices to be tuned to allow their optical absorption bandwidths to match with the solar spectrum. Size, shape, and material composition are some of the significant factors which affect the optical and electronic properties of QDs. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) are some of the most resourceful methods available for the microstructural characteristics of solid materials. These techniques can provide useful information about the structural, morphological and compositional properties of the specimen. In this focused review, we analyze the several types of QDs, their synthesis and characterization, exclusively morphological studies carried out on quantum dots for solar cell applications. Despite various advantages and techniques used for morphological characterization of QDs, very few reviews are reported in the past years. In this review, we have compiled the important and latest findings published on morphological analysis of QDs for photovoltaic applications which can provide the guideline for the research for the future work in the field.Scopu
