    Comparative study of post-partum intra uterine contraceptive device insertion and interval intra uterine contraceptive device insertion in a tertiary care hospital

    Background: NFHS (National Family Health Survey) 2005-2006 in India revealed that the contraceptive prevalence rate is 53.5%. 10% of all pregnancies are mistimed and 11% of all pregnancies are unwanted in India. Objective of present study was to compare the benefits and complications of postpartum IUCD insertion (PPIUCD) over interval IUCD insertion in a tertiary care hospital.Methods: It is a retrospective study conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Govt. Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College, Salem from 2009-2014. The cases of interval IUCD for the year 2009-2014 and PPIUCD cases for the year 2012-2014 both vaginal insertion and intracaesarean insertion were taken for study. Complications, benefits and reasons for removal were compared between the two groups.Results: The total number of cases of IUCD insertion significantly increased after the introduction of PPIUCD programme in 2012. The acceptance of IUCD insertion was steadily increasing after the introduction of PPIUCD even though the follow up of PPIUCD cases was less (32%). The rate of removal in patients who came for follow up was less in PPIUCD group (18%) compared to interval IUCD cases (57%) when the reason was menorrhagia. The most common reason for removal was menorrhagia in interval IUCD patients. Abdominal pain was the most common reason for removal in PPIUCD patients. The rate of expulsion was higher in PPIUCD (6%) compared to interval IUCD patients (<1%). No cases of perforation and no cases of pregnancy in situ were reported in PPIUCD cases during the study period. Even though the rate of infection and missing strings were higher in PPIUCD patients when compared to interval IUCD patients who came for follow up the number of women with infection in PPIUCD patients is less and easily managed with appropriate antibiotics.Conclusions: In India PPIUCD insertion soon after delivery is a safe, effective, reversible and reliable method of long term contraception. Both vaginal and intracaesarean insertions are safe, efficacious and convenient even though there are few complications which are easily manageable. There are no incidences of perforations, pregnancy in situ, ectopic pregnancy and low rates of infection. Hence PPIUCD is a promising approach to decrease the fertility rate in the field of family planning

    Deep Featured Adaptive Dense Net Convolutional Neural Network Based Cardiac Risk Prediction in Big Data Healthcare Environment

    In recent days, cardiac vascular disease has been one of the deadliest health-affecting factors causing sudden death. So, the importance of early risk prediction through feature analysis has become a big problem in data analysis because more nonlinear time series data increase the feature dimension. Irrelevant feature dimension scaling affects the prediction accuracy and leads to classification inaccuracy. To resolve this problem, we propose an Enhanced Healthcare data analysis model for cardiac data prediction using an adaptive Deep Featured Adaptive Convolution Neural Network for early risk identification. Initially, the preprocessing was augmented to formalize the time series data collected from the CVD-DS dataset. Then the feature evaluation was carried out with the Relative Subset Clustering (RSC) approach. The Cardiac Deficiency Prediction rate (CDPr) was estimated to identify the relational feature to subset margins. Based on the CDPr weight the feature is extracted using Cross-Over Mutual Scaling Feature Selection Model (CMSFS). The selected features get with a deep neural classifier based on logical neurons. They are then constructed into a Dense Net Convolution Neural Network (DN-CNN) classifier to feed forward the feature values and predict the Disease Affection Rate (DAR) by class category. The proposed system produces high prediction accuracy in classification, precision, and recall rate to support premature treatment for early cardiac disease risk prediction.

    Bioremediation of chromium in tannery effluent by microbial consortia

    Chromium is the most toxic and common among the heavy metal pollutants of industrial effluents. In the present work the chromium remediation ability of Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Saccharomyces cerevisiae in consortia and in their immobilized forms was studied and their efficiencies were compared. Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and diphenyl carbazide method was used to quantify chromium in the effluent. The chromium content of the effluent was around 770 mg/l before remediation, after which it reduced to 5.2 &#8211; 5.7 mg/l. The best activity was observed by S.cerevisiae - P. aeruginosa consortia, followed by immobilized beads of S. cerevisiae and S. cerevisiae - B. subtilis consortia

    Molecular identification of scale insect (Eulecanium giganteum) in Hibiscus rosa-sinensis

    Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is a widely grown evergreen valuable medicinal, ornamental species planted in India. Scale insects are small herbivorous insects found on all continents and they are serious sap sucking pests of many ornamental plants. These scale insects are undetectable due to their tiny size, basic morphology, and polyphagous feeding nature. Hence, the management of these tiny insects become a serious concern across the globe. To afford a prospective solution to the problem, an accurate, simple, and developmental-stage-independent identification method is required, hence this study attempted the molecular identification of scale insect in Hibiscus rosa-sinensis using mitochondrial gene Cytochrome Oxidase Subunit I (mtCOI) sequencing. The experiment was carried out by isolating insect DNA using a modified CTAB method. Through two or three rounds of error-prone PCR followed by a steady procedure to amplify a mtCOI region. This region of mtCOI has been used as a standard DNA barcode for a diverse array of taxa. The confirmation has been done by sequencing of mtCOI which suggest the highest similarities with Eulecanium giganteum. This study addresses the questions of biodiversity and molecular characterization of scale insects. Further, the information obtained in this study provides baseline data for future crop improvement programs and integrated pest management strategies

    Method validation and monitoring of emamectin benzoate in mature banana fruit with peel and pulp through Liquid chromatography-Mass spectrometry/ Mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)

    Emamectin benzoate has been frequently used in the banana ecosystem to combat the damage of pseudostem weevil. Therefore, the present study was conducted to validate the method, to assess harvest time residues and monitor emamectin benzoate residues in mature banana peel and pulp samples through LC-MS/MS. The validated method was used to determine emamectin benzoate residue in market banana samples. The study used Waters Alliance LC and Acquity TQD with an electrospray ionization interface in the positive ion mode. An isocratic flow of 0.1% formic acid (HCOOH) in water and 0.1% HCOOH in acetonitrile (CH3CN) was utilised for separation. CH3CN was utilised to extract emamectin benzoate residue from the samples, and a dispersive solid-phase extraction technique was used for subsequent cleanup. Linearity tests were performed with standard solutions containing 0.01 to 0.1 g mL-1, with three replicates for each concentration. For mature banana peel &amp; pulp and mature banana pulp matrices, satisfactory recoveries of 79.85 to 95.09% and 89.20 to 100.94%, respectively and high precision relative standard deviations of 0.56 to 2.34% and 2.33 to 6.88%, respectively were obtained. For mature banana (peel and pulp, pulp alone) fruits, the lower detection and quantification limits were (0.003, 0.008), and (0.002, 0.007). The validated approach was utilised to analyse mature banana fruit samples obtained from emamectin benzoate treated fields and banana samples purchased from the local market.  Results showed satisfactory validation of parameters like linearity, the limit of detection and quantification, and recovery for determining emamectin benzoate residues in banana fruit
