    The Korea-China Train Ferry can be one option to enter into Eurasia and a meaningful way to extend the route forlogistics enterprise and manufacturers of Korea to reach the broaderglobal marketalong with specific access to China. Under this scenaris, this study is designed to look at the progress and status of the Korea-China Train Ferry project as anopportunity for Korea to build a path towards Eurasia and to review factors and opinions to consider in port selectionbased on in-depth interviewswith industry participants andexperts. It alsoaims to discuss ideas for a Korea-Chinalogistics cooperative system. For the train ferry's success, agreements between Korea and China are essential to ensure consistency inbase ports and customsclearance procedures and long-term preparation should be made in the first phase to build the framework for the Korea-China Train Ferry operations

    AbstractEndothelin-1 (ET-1) promotes atherosclerosis. We tested whether spleen tyrosine kinase (Syk) mediates tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)-induced ET-1 upregulation in human aortic endothelial cells (HAECs) and sought to identify the signal pathways involved. TNF-α-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) activated Syk and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), which was required for the activation of AP-1 and subsequent ET-1 gene transcription. ROS mediated c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) is also required for AP-1 activation, but Syk and PI3K regulated AP-1 activation independently of JNK. Through regulation of ET-1 production, Syk could be implicated in atherosclerosis

    Molecular epidemiology of Japanese encephalitis virus circulating in South Korea, 1983-2005

    We sequenced the envelope (E) gene of 17 strains of the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) isolated in South Korea in 1983-2005 and compared the sequences with those from previously reported strains. Our results show the remarkable genetic stability of the E gene sequence in Korean JEV strains. Five pairs of E gene sequences from 10 Korean strains were identical, despite geographical differences and a maximum five-year time span. Sequence comparisons with other Asian strains revealed that the Korean strains are closely related to those from China, Japan, and Vietnam. Genotype 3 strains were predominant in Korea before 1993, when genotype 1 strain K93A07 was first isolated. The two genotypes were detected simultaneously in 1994 but since then, only genotype 1 has been isolated in South Korea. Thus, the genotype change occurred according to the year of isolation rather than the geographical origin

We report the case of a child with pneumococcal pneumonia, who experienced severe neutropenia during various antibiotic treatments.     Progress of tissue adhesives based on proteins and synthetic polymers

    In recent years, polymer-based tissue adhesives (TAs) have been developed as an alternative to sutures to close and seal incisions or wounds owing to their ease of use, rapid application time, low cost, and minimal tissue damage. Although significant research is being conducted to develop new TAs with improved performances using different strategies, the applications of TAs are limited by several factors, such as weak adhesion strength and poor mechanical properties. Therefore, the next-generation advanced TAs with biomimetic and multifunctional properties should be developed. Herein, we review the requirements, adhesive performances, characteristics, adhesive mechanisms, applications, commercial products, and advantages and disadvantages of proteins- and synthetic polymer-based TAs.
