The purpose of this study was twofold. First, it sought to determine how to improve students’ cooperative learning skills and the ability to work in teams among gifted students. Secondly, whether and to what effect improved cooperative learning skills had on creativity among gifted students. Teamwork was improved through a direct instruction unit on teamwork, where students participated in coding activities, role-plays, and other cooperative games. Destination Imagination challenges were used to determine teamwork and creativity scores and students participated in a survey of their own and their teammates performance on the challenges. The participants were 38 gifted students from a mid-Atlantic school district ranging in grades from 2- 5. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in students’ ability to work cooperatively as well as a promising link between teamwork and creativity scores

Common Data and Technological Partnership - The Foundation for the Development of Smart Cities - Poznań Case Study

Over the recent years communities have been working towards changing the paradigm of city development into the so-called smart approaches. While various revolutionary solutions have been deployed to make the cities smarter, we believe that a more evolutionary path makes it easier for the cities to change into smart ecosystems. Such an evolutionary path is possible with the right foundation. In this paper we discuss such a foundation that has been making the city of Poznań, Poland, smarter over the last 20 years, and opens opportunities for employing the Citizen Science model of smart city development. This foundation relates to the combination of the creation of a common data space, and the technological partnership with a research and development center and research cyberinfrastructure operator such as the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center

The goal of the paper is to expose the pillars of urban digital infrastructure and their role in the development of smart and data driven applications in the e2e model. Today, no one contests the need for a general-purpose infrastructure in the city that improves the quality of life with respect to various types of socio-economic activity of residents. However, the digital aspect of fostering this kind of activity is linked to a very dynamic and ubiquitous element of technology, and the quality and stability of solutions based on advanced technology is a key parameter of the quality of life and development that a city should provide to its residents. This pace of technology development means that our environment (including cities) are subject to a process of continuous digital transformation. Starting from examples of such transformation and top-trends in technology development, we focus on transformation pillars that can ensure sustainable growth of innovation supply in a city. We give three examples of platforms designed for City of Poznan. We conclude that a key factor benefiting this multidimensional transformation process is the provision of an open, data-transmission and processing infrastructure with the support of which all smart city stakeholders can pursue their social, scientific, economic, or political goals in a sustainable manner

A Concept of Innovation Hub for Smart Applications, Enabling Pro-active Approach to Urban Policy and Planning Processes

In recent years, the question of how to develop smart applications in environments where solutions already exist has become a challenge for many trends of technological transformation e.g. in industry, transport or smart cities. The latter trend is additionally very sensitive because of the social dimension of the impact of transformation, where the human being should be in the centre of attention. In this paper we present the concept of the Innovation Hub in Poznań, which is a framework for digital transformation focused on integration and development towards proactive digital city system. Starting from the pillars of the digital transformation, i.e. the City Development Strategy and existing well-functioning smart city components, we justify the evolutionary model of transformation by creating favorable conditions for the implementation of Proof of Concept projects with the active participation of residents. In addition, we point out examples of projects that were linked to decision-making processes
