You\u27re a Good Man Charlie Brown

    Get PDF
Based on the beloved Charles Schulz comic strip, this musical revue brings the iconic “Peanuts” characters to life through songs and short stories of the lovable but insecure Charlie Brown and all his friends. Through the humorous, reflective, and often emotionally-erratic journey of daily life, Charlie Brown ultimately learns the value of having good friends who embrace our flaws, celebrate our unique qualities, and help us find contentment in the little things. Following the classic style of Schulz\u27s comics, audiences will enjoy the blended humor and clever wordplay of the show’s catchy and memorable tunes. Coupled with lively choreography and high-tech production elements, this musical creates an exciting atmosphere for audiences of all ages. A timely reminder for this day and age, this season opener explores the joy and simplicity of childhood through moments of self- discovery, friendship, and the (seemingly complicated) challenges of navigating the world as a child.https://digitalcommons.cedarville.edu/theatre_productions/1056/thumbnail.jp

Henrietta Leavitt is excited to land a job at the prestigious Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s. Once on the job, she soon realizes she was not hired to be an astronomer, but to serve with a group of female “computers” who merely chart the stars for a man who thinks women are not worthy to be astronomers. Henrietta persists in making her mark within the astronomical society, but finds as she measures the light and distance of stars that she must also take measure of her life on Earth. As a result, she has to choose between her dedication to science, her family, or the possibility of love. Based on the true story of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, the play explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed and credited to men in the field. Leavitt’s story changes the way we see and understand both the glory of the heavens and our purpose on the Earth.https://digitalcommons.cedarville.edu/theatre_productions/1049/thumbnail.jp

Shy and plain young girl Catherine Sloper falls desperately in love with the charming and handsome Morris Townsend. Catherine’s father, a successful doctor, forbids their marriage, fearing that the attraction Morris feels for Catherine may be more for her fortune than for her character. Catherine’s love for Morris is genuine but haunted by doubts regarding her appearance and lack of worldly experience. Her fears are realized when her proposed plan of an elopement fails to succeed, and she retreats into a world of loneliness. But when Morris returns and proposes to her once again, she responds in a shockingly unexpected way. His reaction leaves us to wonder whether Morris is sincere in his love for Catherine, or is rather the fulfillment of Catherine’s fears.https://digitalcommons.cedarville.edu/theatre_productions/1045/thumbnail.jp

These fast-paced comedies have been collected to be performed together as one entertaining show. All rooted in farce comedy, each explores the frustrating, exasperating, and fun-to-watch situations that happen to people in various social settings. The five short plays are “An Unwilling Martyr,” which presents an overburdened man dealing with ludicrous chores and obligations; “The Anniversary,” which takes a look at frenetic scenes at a bank; “The Wedding,” which depicts a social setting where the mother-of-the-bride causes some awkward but hilarious gaffes; “The Bear,” where a widow unable to pay her rent turns the tables on her landlord; and “The Proposal,” where a suitor winds up in a battle over property. The production will feature Russian music and dancing in a colorful and exciting show set in the social world of the 1890s.https://digitalcommons.cedarville.edu/theatre_productions/1048/thumbnail.jp

Increased Risk of Cervical Dysplasia in Long-Term Survivors of Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation—Implications for Screening and HPV Vaccination

    Get PDF
AbstractAs more women survive allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT), the development of genital human papilloma virus (HPV)-related squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL) warrants study. Thirty-five of 38 females followed prospectively long-term after SCT for hematological malignancies (median: 7 years posttransplant) were adults and had cervical cytology testing. Acute graft-versus-host-disease (aGVHD) occurred in 9 and chronic (cGVHD) in 34 patients. Six (17%) continued receiving systemic immunosuppressive therapy (IST) for cGVHD >3 years after SCT. Of 15 (43%) with abnormal cytology, 12 (34%) patients had HPV-related SIL (median time to SIL 51 months, range: 22-108) including high-grade SIL in 7 (20%). Patients requiring continued IST had the highest risk (odds ratio [OR] 4.6, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.1-16.4; P = .019). This high incidence of SIL in long-term SCT survivors underscores the importance of gynecologic assessment after transplantation, especially in those requiring IST. This may portend an increased risk of genital or other HPV-related malignancies

A study of the radiative transfer equation using a spherical harmonics-nodal collocation method

[EN] Optical tomography has found many medical applications that need to know how the photons interact with the different tissues. The majority of the photon transport simulations are done using the diffusion approximation, but this approximation has a limited validity when optical properties of the different tissues present large gradients, when structures near the photons source are studied or when anisotropic scattering has to be taken into account. As an alternative to the diffusion model, the PL equations for the radiative transfer problem are studied. These equations are discretized in a rectangular mesh using a nodal collocation method. The performance of this model is studied by solving different 1D and 2D benchmark problems of light propagation in tissue having media with isotropic and anisotropic scattering. This work has been partially supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad under project ENE-2014-59442-P and by the Generalitat Valenciana under project PRO-METE II/2014/008.Capilla RomĂĄ, MT.; Talavera Usano, CF.; Ginestar Peiro, D.; VerdĂș MartĂn, GJ. The 3rd International Consensus Workshop on Research Priorities in Endometriosis was held in SĂŁo Paulo on May 4, 2014, following the 12th World Congress on Endometriosis. The workshop was attended by 60 participants from 19 countries and was divided into 5 main sessions covering pathogenesis/pathophysiology, symptoms, diagnosis/classification/prognosis, disease/symptom management, and research policy. This research priorities consensus statement builds on earlier efforts to develop research directions for endometriosis. Of the 56 research recommendations from the 2011 meeting in Montpellier, a total of 41 remained unchanged, 13 were updated, and 2 were deemed to be completed. Fifty-three new research recommendations were made at the 2014 meeting in Sao Paulo, which in addition to the 13 updated recommendations resulted in a total of 66 new recommendations for research. The research recommendations published herein, as well as those from the 2 previous papers from international consensus workshops, are an attempt to promote high-quality research in endometriosis by identifying and agreeing on key issues that require investigation. New areas included in the 2014 recommendations include infertility, patient stratification, and research in emerging nations, in addition to an increased focus on translational research. A revised and updated set of research priorities that builds on this document will be developed at the 13th World Congress on Endometriosis to be held on May 17-20, 2017, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.Peter A.
