An Infrastructure for acquiring high quality semantic metadata
Because metadata that underlies semantic web applications is gathered from distributed and heterogeneous data sources, it is important to ensure its quality (i.e., reduce duplicates, spelling errors, ambiguities). However, current infrastructures that acquire and integrate semantic data have only marginally addressed the issue of metadata quality. In this paper we present our metadata acquisition infrastructure, ASDI, which pays special attention to ensuring that high quality metadata is derived. Central to the architecture of ASDI is a erification engine that relies on several semantic web tools to check the quality of the derived data. We tested our prototype in the context of building a semantic web portal for our lab, KMi. An experimental evaluation omparing the automatically extracted data against manual annotations indicates that the verification engine enhances the quality of the extracted semantic metadata
Correlations Between Incidence of Foot Pad Lesions and Body Weight of Broilers in Different Rearing Systems
The incidence of foot pad lesions of broilers of moderate growth was investigated in order to establish correlations with body weight. Broilers were reared until the age of 42 days in the floor system in the poultry house and then were divided into two groups. The first group continued growing in the poultry house until the age of 84 days and the second group was growing in the free range system until the same age. Individual measurements of body weight and evaluation of the incidence of foot pad lesions of broilers were carried out at the end of the experiment. In a correlation analysis of previously transformed data on the percentage of broilers with lesions and body weight within each weight group, data were obtained that showed an association between these traits depending on the rearing system.
System of rearing had significant impact on the strength and direction of correlation between body weight and the incidence of foot pad lesions, in light of the determined correlation coefficient r = -0.95 at the significance level p=0.01 in the free range system, and r=0.56 (p>0.05) in chickens reared in the poultry house
A Wireless LC Sensor Coated with Ba0.9Bi0.066TiO3 for Measuring Temperature
This paper presents a passive LC wireless sensor for measuring temperature. The sensor is designed as a parallel connection of a spiral inductor and an interdigitated capacitor and it was fabricated in a conductive layer using LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic) technology. The inderdigitated capacitor electrodes were coated with a thin film of bismuth doped barium titanate (Ba0.9Bi0.066TiO3), whose permittivity changes with temperature, which directly induces changes in the capacitance of the interdigitated capacitor and consequently changes the resonant frequency of the sensor. The measurements of S-parameter of the sensor were performed using a Vector Network Analyzer (E5071B, Agilent Technologies, Santa Clara, CA, USA), whose port was connected to the antenna coil that was placed around the sensor in order to be able to wirelessly detect temperature, in the temperature range from 25 degrees C to 165 degrees C
Entanglement dynamics of two qubits under the influence of external kicks and Gaussian pulses
We have investigated the dynamics of entanglement between two spin-1/2 qubits
that are subject to independent kick and Gaussian pulse type external magnetic
fields analytically as well as numerically. Dyson time ordering effect on the
dynamics is found to be important for the sequence of kicks. We show that
"almost-steady" high entanglement can be created between two initially
unentangled qubits by using carefully designed kick or pulse sequences
Nonlocal electron-phonon coupling: consequences for the nature of polaron states
We develop a variational approach to an extended Holstein model, comprising both local and nonlocal electron-phonon coupling. The approach is based on the minimization of a Bogoliubov bound to the Helmholtz free energy. The ambivalent character of nonlocal coupling, which both promotes and hinders transport, is clearly observed. Furthermore, a salient feature of our results is that the local and nonlocal couplings can compensate each other, leading to a reduction of polaronic effects and a quasi-free character of the excitation. Our findings have implications for organic crystals of -conjugated molecules, where this electron-phonon coupling mechanism plays an important role
The role of hydrogen sulfide in homocysteine-induced cardiodynamic effects and oxidative stress markers in the isolated rat heart
This study aimed to assess the role of H2S in homocysteine-induced cardiodynamic effects in the isolated rat heart. The hearts were retrogradely perfused according to the Langendorff technique. The maximum and minimum rates of pressure in the left ventricle (dp/dt max, dp/dt min), systolic and diastolic left ventricular pressures (SLVP, DLVP), heart rate (HR), and coronary flow (CF) were measured. A spectrophotometrical method was used to measure the following oxidative stress markers: index of lipid peroxidation (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, TBARS), nitrite level (NO2−), superoxide anion radicals (O2•−), and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentrations. The administration of 10 µmol/l DL-homocysteine (DL-Hcy) alone decreased dp/dt max, SLVP, and CF but did not change any oxidative stress parameters. The administration of 10 µmol/l DL-propargylglycine (DL-PAG) decreased all cardiodynamic parameters and increased the concentration of O2•−. The co-administration of DL-Hcy and DL-PAG induced a significant decrease in all estimated cardiodynamic parameters and decreased the concentration of NO2− and O2•− but increased the levels of TBARS and H2O2. Homocysteine shows a lower pro-oxidative effect in the presence of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which indicates a potential anti-oxidative capacity of H2S
Clar Sextet Analysis of Triangular, Rectangular and Honeycomb Graphene Antidot Lattices
Pristine graphene is a semimetal and thus does not have a band gap. By making
a nanometer scale periodic array of holes in the graphene sheet a band gap may
form; the size of the gap is controllable by adjusting the parameters of the
lattice. The hole diameter, hole geometry, lattice geometry and the separation
of the holes are parameters that all play an important role in determining the
size of the band gap, which, for technological applications, should be at least
of the order of tenths of an eV. We investigate four different hole
configurations: the rectangular, the triangular, the rotated triangular and the
honeycomb lattice. It is found that the lattice geometry plays a crucial role
for size of the band gap: the triangular arrangement displays always a sizable
gap, while for the other types only particular hole separations lead to a large
gap. This observation is explained using Clar sextet theory, and we find that a
sufficient condition for a large gap is that the number of sextets exceeds one
third of the total number of hexagons in the unit cell. Furthermore, we
investigate non-isosceles triangular structures to probe the sensitivity of the
gap in triangular lattices to small changes in geometry

Spallative ablation of dielectrics by X-ray laser
Short laser pulse in wide range of wavelengths, from infrared to X-ray,
disturbs electron-ion equilibrium and rises pressure in a heated layer. The
case where pulse duration is shorter than acoustic relaxation time
is considered in the paper. It is shown that this short pulse may cause
thermomechanical phenomena such as spallative ablation regardless to
wavelength. While the physics of electron-ion relaxation on wavelength and
various electron spectra of substances: there are spectra with an energy gap in
semiconductors and dielectrics opposed to gapless continuous spectra in metals.
The paper describes entire sequence of thermomechanical processes from
expansion, nucleation, foaming, and nanostructuring to spallation with
particular attention to spallation by X-ray pulse
