    Cooperation through image scoring: a replication

    “Image scoring” is a type of social evaluation, originally used in agent-based models, where the reputation of another is numerically assessed. This phenomenon has been studied in both theoretical models and real-life psychology experiments (using human participants). The latter are aimed to create conditions in the laboratory where image scoring can be elicited. One influential paper is that of Wedekind and Milinski (2000), WM. Our paper is a replication of that study, deliberately employing very similar methodology to the original. Accordingly, we had six groups of ten participants play an economic game. In each round, each player was randomly paired with another player whose identity was unknown. The participant was given a binary choice of either (1) donating money to that person, or (2) not donating money. In each round, the player was passively exposed to information about the past generosity of the other player. In our study, we successfully replicated the central result of WM. Participants in our replication gave significantly more money to partners with higher image scores (more generous reputations) than those with lower image scores (less generous reputations).     The authors performed comparative morphological and radiometric (with 131 J-fibrinogen) study of the severity and dynamics of intravascular coagulation (IС) during burn and endotoxic shock in white male Wis tar rats. An early (at the 15th min) high intensity of IС was established in lungs and adrenals but a late peak of IС (until the 24th hour) was found out in kidneys, intestine, liver and spleen. IС intensity reduced significantly at the end of the first hour. There was some discrepancy between 131 J-fibrinogen accumulation and density of microthrombi in different organs

    The Impact of Gender on Mid-Career Labour Income: The Case of Bulgaria

    The impact assessment of education and gender on mid-career labour income in a transitional economy could provide for better understanding of the influence of the labour market dynamics over individuals with different characteristics. Here, we attempt to find an answer to the question: How education and gender determine mid-career labour income? We estimate the returns to education depending on gender using Mincerian equations and regressions. The data set we use is from the Structure of Earnings Survey conducted by the National Statistical Institute in 2002 and 2006. The analysis covers over 130,000 employees between 35 and 49 years old. The impact assessment allows conclusions about the wage gap between men and women, working in different economic sectors incl. the division of public and private sector, services and industry. The access to managerial position and gender differences in the type of the labour contract have been investigated for their contribution to the persistence of a gender pay gap among the individuals with a tertiary education

    Mangiferin: A Promising Anticancer Bioactive

    Of late, several biologically active antioxidants from natural products have been investigated by the researchers in order to combat the root cause of carcinogenesis, i.e., oxidative stress. Mangiferin, a therapeutically active C-glucosylated xanthone, is extracted from pulp, peel, seed, bark and leaf of Mangifera indica. These polyphenols of mangiferin exhibit antioxidant properties and tend to decrease the oxygen-free radicals, thereby reducing the DNA damage. Indeed, its capability to modulate several key inflammatory pathways undoubtedly helps in stalling the progression of carcinogenesis. The current review article emphasizes an updated account on the patents published on the chemopreventive action of Mangiferin, apoptosis induction made on various cancer cells, along with proposed antioxidative activities and patent mapping of other important therapeutic properties. Considering it as promising polyphenol, this paper would also summarize the diverse molecular targets of Mangiferin

    Parafermionic algebras, their modules and cohomologies

    We explore the Fock spaces of the parafermionic algebra introduced by H.S. Green. Each parafermionic Fock space allows for a free minimal resolution by graded modules of the graded 2-step nilpotent subalgebra of the parafermionic creation operators. Such a free resolution is constructed with the help of a classical Kostant's theorem computing Lie algebra cohomologies of the nilpotent subalgebra with values in the parafermionic Fock space. The Euler-Poincar\'e characteristics of the parafermionic Fock space free resolution yields some interesting identities between Schur polynomials.     Crystal structure of magnesium selenate heptahydrate, MgSeO4·7H2O, from neutron time-of-flight data

    MgSeO4·7H2O is isostructural with the analogous sulfate, MgSO4·7H2O, consisting of isolated [Mg(H2O)6](2+) octa-hedra and [SeO4](2-) tetra-hedra, linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, with a single inter-stitial lattice water mol-ecule. As in the sulfate, the [Mg(H2O)6](2+) coordination octa-hedron is elongated along one axis due to the tetra-hedral coordination of the two apical water mol-ecules; these have Mg-O distances of ∼2.10 Å, whereas the remaining four trigonally coordinated water mol-ecules have Mg-O distances of ∼2.05 Å. The mean Se-O bond length is 1.641 Å and is in excellent agreement with other selenates. The unit-cell volume of MgSeO4·7H2O at 10 K is 4.1% larger than that of the sulfate at 2 K, although this is not uniform; the greater part of the expansion is along the a axis of the crystal

    Jacobson generators of the quantum superalgebra Uq[sl(n+1m)]U_q[sl(n+1|m)] and Fock representations

    As an alternative to Chevalley generators, we introduce Jacobson generators for the quantum superalgebra Uq[sl(n+1m)]U_q[sl(n+1|m)]. The expressions of all Cartan-Weyl elements of Uq[sl(n+1m)]U_q[sl(n+1|m)] in terms of these Jacobson generators become very simple. We determine and prove certain triple relations between the Jacobson generators, necessary for a complete set of supercommutation relations between the Cartan-Weyl elements. Fock representations are defined, and a substantial part of this paper is devoted to the computation of the action of Jacobson generators on basis vectors of these Fock spaces. It is also determined when these Fock representations are unitary. Finally, Dyson and Holstein-Primakoff realizations are given, not only for the Jacobson generators, but for all Cartan-Weyl elements of Uq[sl(n+1m)]U_q[sl(n+1|m)].Comment: 27 pages, LaTeX; to be published in J.     Characterization of Morphological Diversity of Jute Mallow (Corchorus spp.)

    Jute mallow is a traditional leaf vegetable that is an important part of daily diet for the majority of people in rural areas in sub-Saharan Africa. Here we employed quantitative and qualitative phenotypic traits to assess the morphological diversity of 90 accessions using univariate and multivariate analyses. Field experiments were conducted for two seasons to identify accessions suitable for leaf yield. The accessions were significantly variable in all traits. Highest variability among accessions was found in harvest index, biomass yield, and weight of 1000 seeds. The traits that significantly correlated with biomass yield include plant height (r=0.448), petiole length (r=0.237), primary branches (r=0.319), and number of leaves per plant (r=0.333). Principal component analysis showed that the first five PCs with eigenvalues ≥1 explained 72.9% of the total variability in the accessions. Pods per plant, primary branches, secondary branches, and number of leaves per plant accounted for highest variability in PC1. Cluster analysis grouped the accessions into five major clusters mainly based on their origin. Thus, the collection displayed high variation in morphological traits, particularly those related to leaf yield. These accessions are therefore useful in breeding for the improvement of the crop and germplasm management

    Representations and Properties of Generalized ArA_r Statistics, Coherent States and Robertson Uncertainty Relations

    The generalization of ArA_r statistics, including bosonic and fermionic sectors, is performed by means of the so-called Jacobson generators. The corresponding Fock spaces are constructed. The Bargmann representations are also considered. For the bosonic ArA_r statistics, two inequivalent Bargmann realizations are developed. The first (resp. second) realization induces, in a natural way, coherent states recognized as Gazeau-Klauder (resp. Klauder-Perelomov) ones. In the fermionic case, the Bargamnn realization leads to the Klauder-Perelomov coherent states. For each considered realization, the inner product of two analytic functions is defined in respect to a measure explicitly computed. The Jacobson generators are realized as differential operators. It is shown that the obtained coherent states minimize the Robertson-Schr\"odinger uncertainty relation.Comment: 16 pages, published in JP
