Irreducibility and Galois Groups of Random Polynomials
In 2015, I. Rivin introduced an effective method to bound the number of irreducible integral polynomials with fixed degree d and height at most N. In this paper, we give a brief summary of this result and discuss the precision of Rivin\u27s arguments for special classes of polynomials. We also give elementary proofs of classic results on Galois groups of cubic trinomials

Genome Alteration Print (GAP): a tool to visualize and mine complex cancer genomic profiles obtained by SNP arrays
GAP, a method for analyzing complex cancer genome profiles from SNP arrays, performs well even with poor quality data and rearranged genome
JUN Oncogene Amplification and Overexpression Block Adipocytic Differentiation in Highly Aggressive Sarcomas
SummaryThe human oncogene JUN encodes a component of the AP-1 complex and is consequently involved in a wide range of pivotal cellular processes, including cell proliferation, transformation, and apoptosis. Nevertheless, despite extensive analyses of its functions, it has never been directly involved in a human cancer. We demonstrate here that it is highly amplified and overexpressed in undifferentiated and aggressive human sarcomas, which are blocked at an early step of adipocyte differentiation. We confirm by cellular and xenograft mouse models recapitulating these sarcoma genetics that the failure to differentiate is dependent upon JUN amplification/overexpression
Steric Effects in Electrolytes: A Modified Poisson-Boltzmann Equation
The adsorption of large ions from solution to a charged surface is
investigated theoretically. A generalized Poisson--Boltzmann equation, which
takes into account the finite size of the ions is presented. We obtain
analytical expressions for the electrostatic potential and ion concentrations
at the surface, leading to a modified Grahame equation. At high surface charge
densities the ionic concentration saturates to its maximum value. Our results
are in agreement with recent experiments.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Dust Production from collisions in extrasolar planetary systems The inner Beta-Pictoris disc
Dust particles observed in extrasolar planetary discs originate from
undetectable km-sized bodies but this valuable information remains
uninteresting if the theoretical link between grains and planetesimals is not
properly known. We outline in this paper a numerical approach we developed in
order to address this issue for the case of dust producing collisional
cascades. The model is based on a particle-in-a-box method. We follow the size
distribution of particles over eight orders of magnitude in radius taking into
account fragmentation and cratering according to different prescriptions. A
very particular attention is paid to the smallest particles, close to the
radiation pressure induced cut-off size , which are placed on highly
eccentric orbits by the stellar radiation pressure....(abstract continued in

Analysis of Somatic Alterations in Cancer Genome: From SNP Arrays to Next Generation Sequencing
International audienceIn this chapter we consider basic hypothesis, problem statements and technological and computa- tional solutions for analysis of copy number alterations in tumor genomes. We provide a data mining tech- nique (based on the GAP method described in (Popova et al., 2009)) which allows extraction of absolute copy numbers and allelic contents from the whole genome copy number variation and allelic imbalance profiles obtained by SNP arrays or NGS
