Interactive Simplifier Tracing and Debugging in Isabelle
The Isabelle proof assistant comes equipped with a very powerful tactic for
term simplification. While tremendously useful, the results of simplifying a
term do not always match the user's expectation: sometimes, the resulting term
is not in the form the user expected, or the simplifier fails to apply a rule.
We describe a new, interactive tracing facility which offers insight into the
hierarchical structure of the simplification with user-defined filtering,
memoization and search. The new simplifier trace is integrated into the
Isabelle/jEdit Prover IDE.Comment: Conferences on Intelligent Computer Mathematics, 201
Mol-CycleGAN - a generative model for molecular optimization
Designing a molecule with desired properties is one of the biggest challenges
in drug development, as it requires optimization of chemical compound
structures with respect to many complex properties. To augment the compound
design process we introduce Mol-CycleGAN - a CycleGAN-based model that
generates optimized compounds with high structural similarity to the original
ones. Namely, given a molecule our model generates a structurally similar one
with an optimized value of the considered property. We evaluate the performance
of the model on selected optimization objectives related to structural
properties (presence of halogen groups, number of aromatic rings) and to a
physicochemical property (penalized logP). In the task of optimization of
penalized logP of drug-like molecules our model significantly outperforms
previous results
Heat-denatured human immunodeficiency virus type 1 protein 24 antigen: prognostic value in adults with early-stage disease
CD4(+) lymphocyte count and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) type 1 RNA level are useful for determining when to initiate antiretroviral therapy but are not used widely in developing countries due to the high cost. Heat-denatured protein 24 (p24) antigen is an inexpensive assay that predicts disease progression among persons with advanced disease but has not been assessed among persons with early-stage disease. Plasma levels of heat-denatured p24 antigen were quantified in baseline study-visit specimens obtained from injection drug users enrolled in a longitudinal cohort study of HIV-1 infection. Of the 494 study participants (median initial CD4(+) lymphocyte count, 518 lymphocytes/mm(3)), 90 (18%) progressed to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome within 5 years. p24 antigen level correlated with both CD4(+) lymphocyte count (r=-0.34; P5 pg/mL predicted disease progression, comparable with that of cutoff CD4(+) lymphocyte count 30,000 copies/mL. Heat-denatured p24 antigen level predicted subsequent clinical disease progression in early-stage HIV-1 infection and correlated with both CD4(+) lymphocyte count and HIV-1 RNA leve
Spaceborne Processor Array
A Spaceborne Processor Array in Multifunctional Structure (SPAMS) can lower the total mass of the electronic and structural overhead of spacecraft, resulting in reduced launch costs, while increasing the science return through dynamic onboard computing. SPAMS integrates the multifunctional structure (MFS) and the Gilgamesh Memory, Intelligence, and Network Device (MIND) multi-core in-memory computer architecture into a single-system super-architecture. This transforms every inch of a spacecraft into a sharable, interconnected, smart computing element to increase computing performance while simultaneously reducing mass. The MIND in-memory architecture provides a foundation for high-performance, low-power, and fault-tolerant computing. The MIND chip has an internal structure that includes memory, processing, and communication functionality. The Gilgamesh is a scalable system comprising multiple MIND chips interconnected to operate as a single, tightly coupled, parallel computer. The array of MIND components shares a global, virtual name space for program variables and tasks that are allocated at run time to the distributed physical memory and processing resources. Individual processor- memory nodes can be activated or powered down at run time to provide active power management and to configure around faults. A SPAMS system is comprised of a distributed Gilgamesh array built into MFS, interfaces into instrument and communication subsystems, a mass storage interface, and a radiation-hardened flight computer
Discovery of Enhanced Germanium Abundances in Planetary Nebulae with FUSE
We report the discovery of Ge III 1088.46 in the planetary nebulae
(PNe) SwSt 1, BD+303639, NGC 3132, and IC 4593, observed with the Far
Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer. This is the first astronomical detection of
this line and the first measurement of Ge (Z = 32) in PNe. We estimate Ge
abundances using S and Fe as reference elements, for a range of assumptions
about gas-phase depletions. The results indicate that Ge, which is synthesized
in the initial steps of the s-process and therefore can be self-enriched in
PNe, is enhanced by factors of > 3-10. The strongest evidence for enrichment is
seen for PNe with Wolf-Rayet central stars, which are likely to contain heavily
processed material.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figure, accepted for publication in ApJ Letter
