Differential effect of tannic acid on two tree-feeding Lepidoptera: implications for theories of plant anti-herbivore chemistry

Feeding efficiencies of ultimate instar larvae of two polyphagous tree-feeding Lepidoptera, Malacosoma disstria (Lasiocampidae) and Orgyia leucostigma (Liparidae), were measured on artificial diets containing from 0% to 8% tannic acid. Relative growth rate (RGR) of O. leucostigma was not affected by up to 8% tannic acid, suggesting that O. leucostigma has evolved an effective counteradaptation to hydrolyzable tannins. In contrast, as little as 0.5% tannic acid caused a significant reduction in RGR of M. disstria , due both to reduced efficiency of conversion of digested food (ECD) and reduced relative consumption rate (RCR), and caused a significant increase in mortality during the pupal stage. Parenting Styles: A Closer Look at a Well-Known Concept

Although parenting styles constitute a well-known concept in parenting research, two issues have largely been overlooked in existing studies. In particular, the psychological control dimension has rarely been explicitly modelled and there is limited insight into joint parenting styles that simultaneously characterize maternal and paternal practices and their impact on child development. Using data from a sample of 600 Flemish families raising an 8-to-10 year old child, we identified naturally occurring joint parenting styles. A cluster analysis based on two parenting dimensions (parental support and behavioral control) revealed four congruent parenting styles: an authoritative, positive authoritative, authoritarian and uninvolved parenting style. A subsequent cluster analysis comprising three parenting dimensions (parental support, behavioral and psychological control) yielded similar cluster profiles for the congruent (positive) authoritative and authoritarian parenting styles, while the fourth parenting style was relabeled as a congruent intrusive parenting style. ANOVAs demonstrated that having (positive) authoritative parents associated with the most favorable outcomes, while having authoritarian parents coincided with the least favorable outcomes. Although less pronounced than for the authoritarian style, having intrusive parents also associated with poorer child outcomes. Results demonstrated that accounting for parental psychological control did not yield additional parenting styles, but enhanced our understanding of the pattern among the three parenting dimensions within each parenting style and their association with child outcomes. More similarities than dissimilarities in the parenting of both parents emerged, although adding psychological control slightly enlarged the differences between the scores of mothers and fathers

Cultural exchange and colonization: considering Roman-Italian relations within the context of contemporary postcolonial literature and theory

Through this work I intend to consider ancient Roman history through a modern postcolonial lens in order to better understand the particular nature of Roman Italian colonial frameworks and power dynamics. By placing ancient history in conversation with modern perspectives on postcolonial theory and subversive colonial dynamics, I intend to develop a refined conception of Romanization and reinforce the human aspect involved in this ancient process of colonization and Roman expansion. In particular, I consider Roman relations with Italian communities during the second and first centuries BCE, through a variety of case studies in order to contextualize the specific nature of this cultural contact and exchange. Then, as a point of comparison, I consider postcolonial theory and perspectives. Specifically, I will analyze a work by Gloria Anzaldúa in order to understand the human experience involved in processes of subversive colonization and wars of cultural hegemony. It is my goal to develop a refined understanding of the experiences of Italian individuals in this period as informed by contemporary perspectives of postcolonial theory

Increasing Utilization of the Ottawa Ankle Rules in the Urgent Care Setting

The Ottawa Ankle Rules (OAR) have not been efficiently utilized in the urgent care setting. Even though multiple studies support providers in understanding the use of these tools for clinical decision making, clinicians continue to underutilize these tools. This quality improvement study was aimed at understanding the reason for the underutilization of the OAR. Several articles were examined in support of and against the OAR; the consensus was, the OAR do serve as a reliable decision making tool. Therefore, a quality improvement study was constructed to increase the utilization of the OAR by providers and clinical staff, in a busy urgent care setting. Staff were educated through a PowerPoint presentation and individual verbal education. Providers were offered one-on-one education and given a recent meta analyses by Beckencamp et al. (2016) which analyzed 66 studies supporting the use of the OAR. In addition, posters were placed in the provider's office as a persistent reminder of the OAR. Pre- and post-surveys studied the knowledge of OAR, the use of OAR and feelings about the OAR; these were answered by clinical staff and providers. The surveys measured whether the underutilization of these rules were due to lack of knowledge or clinician perception. The results showed that clinical staff were not educated on the OAR, and once educated increased their use of these clinical tools. Whereas, the providers were overall knowledgeable of the tools, but felt they were not a useful tool in the urgent care setting. Overall, this project was effective at increasing clinical use of the OAR, however, did not decrease unnecessary ankle radiographs as anticipated. Further investigation into provider attitude and barriers in using the OAR over x-ray, when indicated, would be a beneficial extension of this quality improvement project

Yogyakarta merupakan kota yang penuh dengan objek pariwisata. Pariwisata di Yogyakarta tertama di daerah Prambanan banyak mempunyai objek wisata. Pariwisata tidak bisa lepas dari kota Yogyakarta banyak wisatawan domestik dan mancanegara dating ke Yogyakarta untuk berlibur. Permasalahan pada Pasar Pariwisata di Yogyakarta adalah bagaimana menciptakan pasar yang mewakili suasana objek wisata yang ada di Yogyakarta terutama di Daerah Prambanan supaya ketika wisatawan dating ke pasar ini dapat merasakan suasana seperti di objek wisata tersebut. Permasalahan akan diselesaikan melalui pengolahan tata rupa dan tata ruang yang memiliki unsur edukatif dan rekreatif sehingga dapat membuat rancangan yang dapat menarik minat masyarakat untuk belajar maupun berekreasi. Pasar ini memiliki kelebihan yang berbeda dari pasar lainnya, contohnya adalah tata ruang yang memiliki makna yang mewakili ciri dari setiap objek wisata daerah Prambanan. Selain itu wisatawan juga dapat merasakan kuliner atau kesenian dari Yogyakarta. Tampilan rekreatif dapat membuat pengunjung tertarik untuk menikmati fasilitas yang berada di Yogyakarta ini

Perancangan dan pembuatan access point management system berbasis web

Dewasa ini perkembangan teknologi jaringan komputer telah mencapai tahap penggunaan wireless device. Dalam teknologi wireless tentu dikenal alat bernama access point. Dengan makin banyak pemakaian access point tentu diperlukan aplikasi untuk membantu administrator dalam melakukan tugasnya. Dalam Tugas Akhir ini dibuat aplikasi yang memiliki fitur untuk mengetahui user yang terhubung dengan sebuah access point dan juga mengetahui halaman halaman web yang diakses oleh user tersebut. Dalam aplikasi ini laporan tersebut dibuat dalam bentuk log dan juga grafik dengan bantuan software Round Robin Database (RRD) tool. Aplikasi ini juga memiliki fitur alert system untuk mengetahui keadaan masing masing access point. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian yang dilakukan, dengan aplikasi ini dapat diketahui user yang terhubung dengan masing masing access point, halaman-halaman web yang diakses oleh user, grafik penggunaan access point, grafik lalu lintas jaringan, history, pemberitahuan apabila terdapat access point yang mati serta dapat berinteraksi dengan user dalam hal pemberian informasi
