Electronic structure of an iron porphyrin derivative on Au(1â1â1)
Surface-bound porphyrins are promising candidates for molecular switches, electronics and spintronics. Here, we studied the structural and the electronic properties of Fe-tetra-pyridil-porphyrin adsorbed on Au(1â1â1) in the monolayer regime. We combined scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy, ultraviolet photoemission, and two-photon photoemission to determine the energy levels of the frontier molecular orbitals. We also resolved an excitonic state with a binding energy of 420 meV, which allowed us to compare the electronic transport gap with the optical gap
Erasmus Syllogisms in Cognition and Facilitation of Organizational Innovation
By use of an empirical example from a planned organizational change program within an international company, we examine how specific characteristics of objects (forms) used to represent ideas â in interaction with âhard-wiredâ aspects of human cognition â may contribute to explain outcomes of translation processes and the extent of alteration of the design of the future organization. We argue that a type of syllogism judged as invalid by criteria of formal logics â denoted as Erasmus syllogism â could be rather common in reasoning, and that these logically invalid interferences may contribute to significant innovations. Situations where syllogisms are not recognized as invalid by the involved actors seem to be more prevalent when e.g. the actors are unfamiliar with the semantic content (as e.g. abstract symbols). We argue that understanding of semiotic conditions for occurrence of formal logically invalid syllogism, as well as of the neglect of their invalidity by involved actors in ongoing discourses and reasoning, may contribute to a better understanding of how ideas and objects are translated, within organizations as well as in general. The discussion is a contribution to better understanding of why and how ideas are altered as part of ongoing sense making processes within organizations
Objectives: Can we identify predictive factors for the group of so-called multiple users (MU; 4 and more uses of an emergency department [ED] in the past 12 months)? Are people with a migration background more likely to be classified in the MU group?
Methodology: Included were consecutive patients who visited three EDs in Berlin from July 2017 to July 2018. Using a questionnaire, diseases, reasons for visiting the ED and socioeconomic factors were recorded. Comparisons between migrants (1st generation), their descendants (2nd generation) and nonmigrants were assessed using logistic regression.
Results: A total of 2339 patients were included in the evaluation (repeat rate 56%), of which 901 had a migration background. Young women (<30 years), chronically ill, pregnant women, patients with severe complaints and people with (self-assessed) moderate and poor health quality as well as those without medical referral had a greater chance of multiple use of ED.
Conclusion: MU burden the already increasing patient volume of ED. However, they represent a heterogeneous group of patients, among whom people with a migration background are not common. Further research is warranted to better understand the factors that lead to frequent use and to develop effective strategies to address the complex health needs of MUs

A single dose of the Biontech/Pfizer BNT162b2 vaccine protected elderly residents from severe COVIDâ19 during a SARSâcoronavirusâ2 outbreak in a senior citizen home in Germany
Background: A total of 62/66 (93.9%) residents in a senior citizen home in Bremen, Germany, received the first dose of the Biontech/Pfizer vaccine BNT162b2 on December 27th 2020. After routine severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) antigen tests showed positive results on January 5th, all residents and staff were tested by RT-PCR.
Results: Nine staff members and 23 residents had a positive result. PCR positive staff members reported mild to severe COVID-19 symptoms, one was hospitalized. None of them had been vaccinated. In contrast, the vaccinated residents reported no or only mild symptoms. Sequencing of the SARS-CoV-2 genomes of infected individuals revealed a monophyletic origin of the outbreak within the PANGO lineage B.1.177.86.
Conclusions: In summary, our data show that partial vaccination prevented severe COVID-19 among the residents during this local SARS-CoV-2 outbreak, suggesting a high effectiveness of even a single vaccine dose, but also emphasize that asymptomatic individuals might still be carriers/spreaders
