The basic power conversion units consist of small Brayton or Rankine engines individually coupled to two-axis, tracking, point-focusing solar collectors. It is hoped that each topic covered in the discussion will contribute something to a better understanding of farm mortgage credit conditions in the state, More knowledge of the present situation is essential if an intelligent attack is to be made on this important problem. It has not been possible to analyze thoroughly each problem considered. Such conclusions as are offered will therefore have to be considered as more or less tentative. If the discussion that follows will be of assistance in furnishing some background for intelligent action on these timely and most important problems the undertaking will have served its main purpose

    Dilepton and Photon Emission Rates from a Hadronic Gas

    We analyze the dilepton and photon emission rates from a hadronic gas using chiral reduction formulas and a virial expansion. The emission rates are reduced to pertinent vacuum correlation functions, most of which can be assessed from experiment. Our results indicate that in the low mass region, the dilepton and photon rates are enhanced compared to most of the calculations using chiral Lagrangians. The enhancement is further increased through a finite pion chemical potential. An estimate of the emission rates is also made using Haag's expansion for the electromagnetic current. The relevance of these results to dilepton and photon emission rates in heavy-ion collisions is discussed.Comment: 7 pages, LaTeX using revTeX, 6 figures imbedded in text.     The Virginia Workmen\u27s Compensation Act, first enacted in 1918, generally provides for case benefits and medical care to individuals injured in employment-related accidents. While the Act is neither tort law nor social insurance, it contains elements of both. As social legislation, the Act plays an important role in protecting citizens from loss of wages and provides an important supplement to protection available from the federal Old Age, Survivors\u27 Disability and Health Insurance Program, unemployment compensation and private health and accident insurance plans. In 1979, more than 43,000 Virginia employees filed claims under the Act. Unlike other social insurance programs, however, workmen\u27s compensation is funded by neither the employee nor the state. For a qualifying injury, death or disease, liability is borne by the employer and, presumably, passed on to the consumer

    Bovine Sperm Sexing Alters Sperm Morphokinetics and Subsequent Early Embryonic Development

    In artificial insemination the use of sex-sorted bovine sperm results in reduced conception, the causes of which are only partly understood. Therefore, we set out to investigate the effects of sexing on bovine sperm function and early embryonic development. Computer-assisted semen analysis (CASA) of sperm of the same bulls (n = 5), before and after sexing, demonstrated significantly reduced fast (A) and slow (B) progressively motile sperm (p [less than] 0.05) after sexing. Sexed-sperm also revealed significantly less hyperactivated sperm (p [less than] 0.05). As shown by time-lapse videomicroscopy of in vitro produced embryos (n = 360), embryos derived from sexed-sperm displayed significantly increased incidences of arrest at the 4-cell stage (p [less than] 0.05). The relative risk for shrinkage/fusion of blastomeres with subsequent lysis was 1.71 times higher in the embryos derived from sexed-sperm as compared to conventional embryos (p [less than] 0.05) resulting in significantly reduced blastocyst rates (p [less than] 0.001). The relative risk for cleavage was 2.36 times lower in the embryos derived from sex-sorted sperm (p [less than] 0.001). Additionally, sexed-sperm-derived embryos showed reduced survival times (hazard ratio HR = 1.54, p [less than] 0.001) which were bull dependent (p [less than] 0.001). However, the percentage of apoptotic cells was similar to conventional embryos. Furthermore, embryos derived from sexed-sperm were found to reach developmental stages at similar timings as conventional embryos. Our results suggest that reduced conception rates after sexing are due to altered sperm morphokinetics, decreasing the chance of sperm to reach and fertilise the oocyte, and aberrant early embryonic development
