Reuse patterns in adaptation languages : creating a meta-level for the LAG adaptation language

A growing body of research targets authoring of content and adaptation strategies for adaptive systems. The driving force behind it is semantics-based reuse: the same strategy can be used for various domains, and vice versa. Whilst using an adaptation language (LAG e.g.) to express reusable adaptation strategies, we noticed, however, that: a) the created strategies have common patterns that, themselves, could be reused; b) templates based on these patterns could reduce the designers' work; c) there is a strong preference towards XML-based processing and interfacing. This has leaded us to define a new meta-language for LAG, extracting common design patterns. This paper provides more insight into some of the limitations of Adaptation Languages like LAG, as well as describes our meta-language, and shows how introducing the meta-level can overcome some redundancy issues

Adaptation languages as vehicles of explicit intelligence in adaptive hypermedia

    No full text
This paper deals with a new challenge in Adaptive Hypermedia (AH) and web-based systems: finding the adaptation language to express, independently from the domain model or platform, the intelligent, adaptive behaviour of personalised web courseware. The major requirements for the ideal language are: reuse, flexibility, high level semantics, and ease of use. To draw closer to this ideal language, we compare two such language proposals: LAG, a generic adaptation language, and a new XML adaptation language for Learning Styles (LS) in AHA!, LAG-XLS

Structure of ammonium decachloro-ΞΌ-oxodiosmate(IV) (NH4) 4[Os2OCl10] and its behavior in solutions

The structure of (NH4)4[OS2OCl 10] has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The crystals are tetragonal, space group I4/mmm, a = 7.292(1) Γ…, c = 17.157(3) Γ…, Z = 2. The binuclear anion has D 4h symmetry; the osmium atom is coordinated to five chlorine atoms and the oxygen atom. The Os-O distances are 1.8242(5) Γ…; Os-Cleqv, 2.3743(18) Γ…; Os-Clax, 2.335(3) Γ…; the Cl1OsCl2 angle is 86.84(4). The anion has been established spectrophotometrically to remain structurally unchanged in freshly prepared aqueous and hydrochloric acid solutions. Slow aquation with retention of a binuclear structure occurs with time in 1 and 6 M HCl. At 75 or 90 C, the process is faster with the disrupture of the Os-O-Os bond and the formation [OsCl6]2- ions in 6 M HCl and a mixture of [OsCl6]2- and [Os(H2O)Cl 5]- ions in 1 M HCl. Complexation of 2,3-dihydroxyquinaline with some bivalent d metals. Crystal and molecular structures of 2,3-dihydroxyquinoline

The reactions of Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Cd with 2,3-dihydroxyquinoline (H(2)L) were used to synthesize and identify the complexes M(HL)(2) center dot 2H(2)O (M = Mn, Ni, Cu), Fe(HL)OH center dot 2H(2)O, Co(HL)OH center dot H(2)O, Cd(H(2)L)Cl(2), where H(2)L participates in the coordination in the monoanionic or neutral forms with the formation of the chelate cycles. Single crystal was isolated and the crystal structure of H(2)L was determined. The spectral characteristics of a neutral and anionic form of the ligand were measured, and its complexation with MCl(2) was studied in the ethanol solutions. The acidity constant of H(2)L and the formation constants of the complexes in solutions were calculated
