Parametrised strict deformation quantization of C*-bundles and Hilbert C*-modules
In this paper, we use the parametrised strict deformation quantization of
C*-bundles obtained in a previous paper, and give more examples and
applications of this theory. In particular, it is used here to classify
H_3-twisted noncommutative torus bundles over a locally compact space. This is
extended to the case of general torus bundles and their parametrised strict
deformation quantization. Rieffel's basic construction of an algebra
deformation can be mimicked to deform a monoidal category, which deforms not
only algebras but also modules. As a special case, we consider the parametrised
strict deformation quantization of Hilbert C*-modules over C*-bundles with
fibrewise torus action.Comment: 13 page

MONTAGE: AGB nucleosynthesis with full s-process calculations
We present MONTAGE, a post-processing nucleosynthesis code that combines a
traditional network for isotopes lighter than calcium with a rapid algorithm
for calculating the s-process nucleosynthesis of the heavier isotopes. The
separation of those parts of the network where only neutron-capture and
beta-decay reactions are significant provides a substantial advantage in
computational efficiency. We present the yields for a complete set of s-process
isotopes for a 3 Mo, Z = 0.02 stellar model, as a demonstration of the utility
of the approach. Future work will include a large grid of models suitable for
use in calculations of Galactic chemical evolution.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures. Accepted by PAS
WAYS OF STRENGHTENING THE STATUTORY AUDIT EFFICIENCY
The integrity of the auditor’s opinion and the audit process conducting effectivenesshangs on the professional judgment applied on obtaining, processing and interpreting the internal andexternal information. Documentation is based on all the audit evidence collected through proceduressuch as: inspection, confirmation, documentation etc. Audit evidence is used to determine whether thefinancial statements present the economic reality of transactions and if they faithfully reflect thefinancial position of the company. To achieve a reasonable assurance, the auditor should gathersufficient and high quality audit evidence so that the view expressed in the report of the independentauditor should be based on a credible and relevant background.audit evidence, audit procedures, professional judgment, reasonable assurance.
Management practices as risk factors for the presence of bulk milk antibodies to Salmonella, Neospora caninum and Leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo in Irish dairy herds
peer-reviewedA survey of management practices in 309 Irish dairy herds was used to identify risk factors for the presence of antibodies to Salmonella, Neospora caninum and Leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo in extensively managed unvaccinated dairy herds. A previous study documented a herd-level seroprevalence in bulk milk of 49%, 19% and 86% for Salmonella, Neospora caninum and leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo, respectively in the unvaccinated proportion of these 309 herds in 2009. Association analyses in the present study were carried out using multiple logistic regression models. Herds where cattle were purchased or introduced had a greater likelihood of being positive to leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo (P<0.01) and Salmonella (P<0.01). Larger herds had a greater likelihood of recording a positive bulk milk antibody result to leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo (P<0.05). Herds that practiced year round calving were more likely to be positive to Neospora caninum (P<0.05) compared to herds with a spring-calving season, with no difference in risk between herds that practiced split calving compared to herds that practiced spring calving. No association was found between presence of dogs on farms and prevalence of Neospora caninum possibly due to limited access of dogs to infected materials including afterbirths. The information from this study will assist in the design of suitable control programmes for the diseases under investigation in pasture-based livestock systems

Approximate Span Programs
Span programs are a model of computation that have been used to design
quantum algorithms, mainly in the query model. For any decision problem, there
exists a span program that leads to an algorithm with optimal quantum query
complexity, but finding such an algorithm is generally challenging.
We consider new ways of designing quantum algorithms using span programs. We
show how any span program that decides a problem can also be used to decide
"property testing" versions of , or more generally, approximate the span
program witness size, a property of the input related to . For example,
using our techniques, the span program for OR, which can be used to design an
optimal algorithm for the OR function, can also be used to design optimal
algorithms for: threshold functions, in which we want to decide if the Hamming
weight of a string is above a threshold or far below, given the promise that
one of these is true; and approximate counting, in which we want to estimate
the Hamming weight of the input. We achieve these results by relaxing the
requirement that 1-inputs hit some target exactly in the span program, which
could make design of span programs easier.
We also give an exposition of span program structure, which increases the
understanding of this important model. One implication is alternative
algorithms for estimating the witness size when the phase gap of a certain
unitary can be lower bounded. We show how to lower bound this phase gap in some
cases.
As applications, we give the first upper bounds in the adjacency query model
on the quantum time complexity of estimating the effective resistance between
and , , of , and, when is a lower
bound on , by our phase gap lower bound, we can obtain , both using space
EVALUATING TEACHING PERFORMANCE. FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE USING STATISTICAL TOOLS
The teaching performance is influenced firstly by the quality of the educational system. The universities are trying to raise the expectations regarding the methods used for evaluating the teaching quality. In order for the results to be as much as credible the evaluation must defer to the existing theory and to follow the standardized procedures, starting from some basic principles. The most used framework is represented by the 3P model which contains three parts: 1. The input (factors that come under the students and the professor) 2. The learning process (activities focused on learning, teaching methods, practical ability, individual study) 3. The outcome (the output of the learning process). This study presents some results of a questionnaire based on the existing economic theory and applied to a sample of master business students from Romania. The students were asked to give grades from 1 to 5 to several aspects related to the educational process. These aspects took into consideration the following: if the didactic activity was interesting for the students/ the relationship between the objectives of the course and the activity evolved/ the clarity of the presentations/ the degree of studentsï¿1/2 participation required by the teacher/ the methods and materials used/ the availability of the teacher. The average grade is 4.39, indicating a very high level of satisfaction, taking into account that the grades ranged from 1 to 5. For 50% of the students, the average grade was below 4.53, while for the other half it was above the specified value. But one has to see the value returned for the majority of the students. The mode equals 5, meaning that most of the students involved in the analyzed programme are extremely satisfied with the quality of the educational process. With a significance value Sig. = 0.004higher education, teaching quality
Novel non-local behaviour of quasi-3D Wide Quantum Wells
We investigate the high magnetic field regime of wide quantum wells (WQW) for
the case of a many valley host semiconductor. The complete system is described
within a modified Landauer-Buettiker formalism and we demonstrate that a
parallel contribution of two electron systems in different valleys of the band
structure can lead to an edge channel related non-local behaviour even in the
3D-regime. From the obtained general result we derive also a simplified model
which applies for the case of much different dissipation. It represents the
most dissipative system by an Ohmic resistor network and the less dissipative
system by an EC-system.Comment: postscript file including 3 figs, 4 page
