This dissertation proposes and discusses the pedagogy and philosophy behind an original method titled IAM (Integrated Arts Method), which is an alternate experiential, integrated, conducive, and student-centered music and arts pedagogical method that can facilitate effective teaching for effective learning. Three key philosophical principles and a number of general techniques and attitudes are suggested as contributing factors to observed success of IAM. These generalized contributing factors, the IAM pedagogy and philosophy, are comparable with existing related pedagogical methods, which offer indirect explanation and support for the success of IAM. In turn, these pedagogical principles and attitudes allow generalization of IAMs advantages to other subject areas. IAM pedagogy contributes to the field of education generally, and arts education specifically, with original music and interdisciplinary programs, materials, compositions, and procedures, which represent practical and effective tools for both educators and students success. The three key principles of IAM pedagogy suggest that learning can be effective if it is: 1) physical experience based, 2) with synthesis of related subjects, and 3) taught in a positive and stimulating atmosphere. Accurate facilitation of these key principles involves techniques, aspects, and pedagogical attitudes which this dissertation specifies and explains. IAM pedagogy is embodied through a set of general principles, specific attitudes, and practical tools for achieving required emotional, mental, physiological, and psychological functioning of both learner and teacher for their mutual effectiveness. Results of real world IAM programs in subject areas of music and arts suggest that the pedagogy of IAM contributes to effective, enjoyable, and memorable education. Explanation and support of this contribution stem from scientific, educational, sociological, philosophical, neuroscience, cognition, and music and arts literature. Hence the research conducted in this dissertation has been from real world practice toward grounded theory. IAM programs have been conducted 7 times with success (in 2007-2009 public school based extracurricular settings), with the aid of original pedagogical programs and materials developed for these programs. These specific programs and their parameters and materials will be offered in the dissertation as concrete sample pedagogical solutions to practical application of the proposed principles in music and integrated arts education

The process of digitalization changes strategies for social intercourse organization, it predetermines the emergence of disruptive technologies and trends such as sharing economy that plays a special part among them. The purpose of the given research is to shape developments of supply chain management which will facilitate the legal framing of adequate mechanisms of relations in the sphere of shared use of goods and services (sharing economy) under growth of digital technologies. The research reviews and analyses basic ideas of economic and supply chain practices. The main research methods were deduction (specification of general principles and their application to particular spheres), induction (the study of work arrangement of certain platforms under sharing economy and further specification of general principles), and method of comparative law. Sharing economy activities may be diverse. It can be of profit-seeking or non-profit character. Thus, relations under discussion can be mediated by gratuitous and non-gratuitous contracts. Participants of sharing economy can be considered commercial and non-commercial organizations, and supply chain strategies, and it results in the necessity of solving the problem of their legal standing so that they can take part in supply chain transactions. Research findings are important for the development of legal science and supply chain in particular. On the basis of the conducted research the authors determine the main vectors of development of supply chain management to ensure evolution of sharing economy in Russia therefore, obtained results can be applied in supply chain practices, profession, and research in the sphere of economic science. The article singles out application features of supply chain frameworks with respect to the emergent economic relations. It is revealed that scientific uncertainty of the notion "sharing economy" leads to ambiguous interpretation of the legal nature of existing relations, substantial problems in applying legal standards to them, and in settlement of arising disputes. The development of sharing practices is one of the most important aims of the managers responsible for business processes management in supply chains, especially for logistics processes

In digitalization, trust is a necessary factor in economic and social development in general that determines the content of public relations and ensures their positive effect. In sharing economy, due to the specifics of the emerging relations, the issue of creating a digital environment of trust is especially relevant. The objective of the research is to determine the directions for improving the mechanism of civil law regulation of certain aspects of the collective use of goods and services, including studying the possibilities of the influence of the main provisions of civil law on the provision of the necessary trust between the turnover participants; research on the transformation of legal institutions, including the protection of reputation, in the context of digitalization processes; establishment of the specifics of regulating relations on the use of blockchain and other latest technologies aimed at creating and increasing the level of digital trust in collaborative consumption of various assets. The main research methods are deduction (the study of general legal provisions and their application to some regions of collaborative consumption), induction (the study of the rules for organizing the work of specific Internet platforms in the sharing economy and the subsequent allocation of general principles). Based on the results, the effective development of the sharing economy in digitalization presupposes a high level of trust, which has several interrelated manifestations that require differentiated approaches to their legal support. In addition to trust in digital technologies and services, the security of remotely performed transactions, and the preservation of the confidentiality of personal data, trust in society is essential for the sharing economy since only those who trust are trusted

Identification of Safety Metrics for Airport Surface Operations

A large fraction of safety incidents occurs on the ground during airport surface operations. Although these incidents are mostly non-fatal with a few exceptions, they are high profile incidents that remain a source of concern for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), major airlines, and other stakeholders of the National Airspace System (NAS). These incidents have historically been mitigated by implementing changes to regulations, policies, and procedures over time. This approach has minimized but not eliminated the risk of occurrences. It is thus important to develop integrated techniques to assess, model, and prevent these incidents by analyzing the risk and likelihood of occurrence and communicating results of the analysis to decision-making personnel who can mitigate and prevent incidents in real time. The research presented in this report builds on prior work of researchers at the NASA Ames Research Center who developed an automated framework, Real-Time Safety Monitoring (RTSM), to enable monitoring and prediction of the safety of the NAS. In the RTSM framework, hazards to flight are translated to safety metrics such as wake vortex encounters or loss of separation, that can be modeled and analyzed offline and also predicted and monitored in real time (online). The intent of this report is to integrate predictable incidents that occur during surface and ground operations into the safety portfolio of the RTSM project by (i) identifying suitable information sources from which ground incidents can be studied, (ii) developing safety metrics correlated with surface operations, and (iii) recommending suitable data sources that can be quantified and used for the computation of pertinent safety metrics

Recruitment of community-based youth into studies is challenging. We examined access issues, minority status, and personal costs of participation for a study of children with aggressive behaviors, designed to identify which ones are at risk for future violent behaviors, to identify protective factors, and to test interventions to reduce aggression. Of 1,038 contacts, 112 declined, 239 could not be re-contacted, and 124 were ineligible. Three hundred and fifty of 563 scheduled child-parent dyads completed intake assessment. Most were recruited through targeted mailings (33%) and community flyers (22%), 12% through regional news advertisement, 8% by Craigslist, and 5% through healthcare providers/clinics. Factors contributing to enrollment rates by zip code showed the percentage of Black residents per zip code and targeted mailings positively contributed (Beta = .200 & .419, respectively) and estimated transit travel time negatively contributed (Beta =.299) to enrollment rates (R2 = 0.562). Targeted mailings proved to be the most efficient strategy in successful recruitment

Radiotherapy (RT) is our preferred modality for local palliation of metastatic soft tissue sarcoma (STS). A short and intense course of RT is usually needed for rapid palliation and local control of metastatic disease. Seventeen patients at a median age of 61 had symptomatic metastatic sarcoma and required rapid palliation. The symptoms related to the metastases were either pain or discomfort. All patients were treated by a short and intensive course of administration: 39 Gy were given in 13 fractions of 3 Gy/day, 5 times a week. Median follow-up period was 25 weeks. The treatment was well tolerated. Acute side effects included grade one skin toxicity. No wound complications were noted among those undergoing surgery. Late side effects included skin pigmentation and induration of irradiated soft tissues. Durable pain control was achieved in 12 out 15 cases treated for gross metastases. Tumor progression was seen in the 3 other cases within a period of two to nine months. Among 5 lesions which were irradiated as an adjunctive treatment following resection, no local recurrence was observed. The results of this series, although limited in size, point to the safety and feasibility of hypofractionated RT for palliation of musculoskeletal metastases from sarcoma

Purpose: The process of digitalization changes strategies for social intercourse organization, it predetermines the emergence of disruptive technologies and trends such as sharing economy that plays a special part in the sphere of management. The purpose of the given research is to shape developments of civil legislation, which will facilitate the legal framing of adequate mechanisms of civil regulation of relations in the sphere of shared use of goods and services (sharing economy) under the growth of digital technologies. Method / approach: The research reviews and analyses basic ideas of economic and legal sciences. It studies empiric material such as sample contracts and cases of judicial practice. The main research methods were deduction (specification of general principles and their application to particular spheres), induction (the study of work arrangement of certain platforms under sharing economy and further specification of general principles), and comparative law method. Main Findings: Sharing economy activities may be diverse. It can be of profit-seeking or non-profit character. Thus, relations under discussion can be mediated by gratuitous and non-gratuitous contracts. Participants of sharing economy can be considered commercial and non-commercial organizations, citizens, and civil communities that are not legal entities. It results in the necessity of solving the problem of their legal standing to take part in civil transactions. Methodological / social / managerial contributions: Research findings are important for developing legal science and civil law in particular. Based on the conducted research, the authors determine the main vectors of development of civil legislation to ensure the evolution of sharing economy and management in Russia; therefore, obtained results can be applied in lawmaking, law enforcement activities, the teaching profession, and research in the sphere of legal science. Originality / relevance: In Russia relations existing within the sharing economy sector have not got suitable legislative support yet as some of them lie outside the legal environment, so it creates a lot of disputable problems in real life. In this study, for the first time, an attempt was made to reveal and examine special aspects of emerging relations for their proper legal regulation
