AbstractObjectivesThe present study hypothesis was that eptifibatide offered further antiplatelet efficacy above clopidogrel in non–ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) patients before an expeditive coronary intervention.BackgroundAlthough thienopyridines and glycoprotein (GP) IIb/IIIa antagonists are often co-prescribed in the context of NSTEMI, the antiplatelet interaction of these agents is poorly described and the superiority of GP IIb/IIIa antagonists above thienopyridine treatment alone is not clear.MethodsThirty-two NSTEMI patients treated with aspirin and enoxaparin were studied using flow cytometry to define parameters of platelet activation with a panel of agonists before clopidogrel, after clopidogrel, and during an eptifibatide infusion following the clopidogrel load.ResultsAfter platelet activation with adenosine diphosphate, thrombin receptor-activating peptide, or U46-619, relative reductions in conformationally activated GP IIb/IIIa receptor expression (evaluated with PAC-1) of 48%, 43%, and 33%, respectively (all p < 0.0001), were seen with clopidogrel, but further 80%, 78%, and 72% (all p < 0.0001) reductions were seen with eptifibatide. With the same agonists, fibrinogen binding was significantly reduced after clopidogrel by 70%, 64%, and 81% (all p < 0.0001) and again further reduced with eptifibatide by 90%, 95%, and 69% (all p < 0.0001). The total number of GP IIb/IIIa receptors (measured as P2 expression) and P-selectin expression fell after clopidogrel, after ex vivo stimulation with the same agonists; however, both parameters increased slightly during the eptifibatide infusion.ConclusionsThe activated GP IIb/IIIa expression and fibrinogen binding findings indicate that eptifibatide provides significant potent antiplatelet activity above aspirin and clopidogrel, suggesting additive immediate protection in the treatment of NSTEMI. The P2 and P-selectin findings suggest the possibility of a partial agonist and/or pro-inflammatory effect

Surface crack reconstruction from eddy current images using a direct semi-analytic model

    No full text
International audienceA method relying on a direct semi-analytic model is proposed for reconstructing cracks from eddy current images. We consider systems featuring a uniform excitation flow which can be modelled by means of fictitious current sources distributed in the crack volume. Thanks to the relative simplicity of the model a reconstruction method based the comparison of EC images is considered. The sensitivity of different images comparison criteria is studied for 2D surface cracks, leading to a reconstruction method based on a genetic algorithm. Numerical experiments are carried out to examine the performances of the algorithm in terms of convergence and accuracy

Electrode Confined Acoustic Wave (ECAW) devices for Ultra High Band applications

International audienceThis paper presents a new approach to increase the operational frequency of Surface Acoustic Wave devices. The excitation of a new type of mode called ECAW ( Electrode Confined Acoustic Wave) exhibiting a phase velocity much higher than the one of a standard SAW is demonstrated. In this context, a new composite substrate is considered to guarantee a perfect spectral purity. Therefore, Piezo-On-Glass substrates are manufactured and used for the manufacturing of ECAW device prototypes. Preliminary results show a frequency at 2.5 GHz with an IDT pitch equal to 2 ÎĽm. In terms of power handling, widest tested components successfully handle up to 36 dBm without destruction of the devices

Laon (Aisne) : un quartier du Bourg aux portes de la Cité: Les fouilles du 8-10 rue du Bourg, 12-14bis rue Franklin Roosevelt

National audienceA construction of an apartment building led to the realization of an archeological dig in the narrowest upper part of the town of Laon.Ceramic evidence suggested the proximity of a dwelling from Roman period. In the early Middle Ages, dwellings were served by a road and characterized by handicraft activities and gardening. In the Twelfth century, this area of the town was subject to significant improvements. Taking advantage of the favorable topographic position, Louis VII built a royal palace there between 1143 and 1179. Around 1212, a large tower was attached to the palace to control access to the fortified City. Beyond this entrance, was located the suburb, called Bourg. The excavated areas are situated at the foot of the royal palace. During the excavation one of the two towers of Lupsault gate was also discovered. The gate was built in the beginning of Thirteenth century and was the main access to the Bourg walls. Remains of the curtain wall, linking the gate to the royal palace, have also been revealed. For strategic reasons, no new constructions were built along the curtain wall and the royal palace during this period. At the end of the Fourteenth century, Lupsault gate was a part of a complex defensive structure called Lupsault fortress. After the military improvements the curtain wall, linking the Lupsault gate to the royal palace, became obsolete. The wall had already been partially leveled off. Remains of housing, built along that ancient wall, were discovered and excavated. The central position of the studied area, boarding the main traffic roads, explains the density of the discovered buildings and the development of trade: an inn, a hotel with a sheep sign and another one with a boar’s head sign. Numerous preserved artifacts prove the vitality of economics activities as from the Tenth century. To improve the circulation, the Lupsault gate was destroyed in 1799. Later, in 1831, the royal palace and the Philippe Auguste tower were demolished to allow the construction of the new city hall. Until the beginning of the Twentieth century, the division of land, adopted at the end of the Middle Age, had changed very little. The boar’s head sign hotel disappeared in 1913. A general leveling of the area was carried out for the building of the retail chain Nouvelles Galeries, and later, Monoprix, finally demolished in 2011.La construction d’un immeuble d’habitation a justifié la réalisation d’une fouille archéologique dans la zone la plus étroite de la ville haute de Laon.
