In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for that algebraic surface having a standard parametric representation and our proof is constructive. If the given algebraic surface is translational, then we can compute a standard parametric representation for the surface

Compact Modeling of SiC Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors

This thesis presents a unified (n-channel and p-channel) silicon/silicon carbide Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) compact model in both MAST and Verilog-A formats. Initially, the existing MAST model mobility equations were updated using recently referenced silicon carbide (SiC) data. The updated MAST model was then verified for each device tested. Specifically, the updated MAST model was verified for the following IGBT devices and operation temperatures: n-channel silicon at 25 ˚C and at 125 ˚C; n-channel SiC at 25 ˚C and at 175 ˚C; and p-channel SiC at 150 ˚C and at 250 ˚C. Verification was performed through capacitance, DC output characteristics, and turn-off transient simulations. The validated MAST model was then translated into the Verilog-A language, and the Verilog-A model results were validated against the updated MAST model

The fifth issue of the Society and Equity Journal is a significant contribution to knowledge regarding poverty and inequality, focusing on studies that offer new dimensions of analysis. These articles invite us, coming from different parts of the region, to assume the problems of poverty and social inequality as a complex andhistorically situated phenomenon in which subjective, cultural, ethical, economical and structural dimensions interact.El quinto número de Revista Sociedad y Equidad viene a alimentar de manera importante los conocimientos sobre los problemas de la pobreza y la desigualdad, precisamente a partir de estudios que ofrecen nuevas dimensiones de análisis. Los artículos invitan, desde distintos sectores de la región, a asumir la problemática de la pobreza y la desigualdad social como un fenómeno complejo, históricamente situado, de interacción entre dimensiones subjetivas, culturales, éticas, económicas y estructurales.

Improved Sensor-Based Human Activity Recognition Via Hybrid Convolutional and Recurrent Neural Networks

Non-intrusive sensor-based human activity recognition is utilized in a spectrum of applications including fitness tracking devices, gaming, health care monitoring, and smartphone applications. Deep learning models such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and long short-term memory (LSTMs) recurrent neural networks provide a way to achieve human activity recognition accurately and effectively. This project designed and explored a variety of multi-layer hybrid deep learning architectures which aimed to improve human activity recognition performance by integrating local features and was scale invariant with dependencies of activities. We achieved a 94.7% activity recognition rate on the University of California, Irvine public domain dataset for human activity recognition containing 6 activities with a 2-layer CNN-1-layer LSTM hybrid model. Additionally, we achieved an 88.0% activity recognition rate on the University of Texas at Dallas Multimodal Human Activity dataset containing 27 activities with a 4-layer CNN-1-layer LSTM hybrid model. For both datasets, our hybrid models outperformed other deep learning models and traditional machine learning methods

English in Action (EIA) programme, Bangladesh: teaching and learning English – teachers’ and students’ perceptions

This talk presents Government of Bangladesh teachers and students’ views to learning English and communicative language practices. The teachers and students who took part in the study are participating in English in Action (EIA), a large-scale UKaid-funded English language development project, aiming to provide learning opportunities to 25 million people in Bangladesh. The teachers are part of the EIA professional development programme for English teachers, which introduces new communicative teaching methodologies at school level. The views of 535 primary and secondary teachers, 457 secondary students and 374 primary students presented here have been collected via questionnaires and interview survey. The study provides evidence of teachers and students perceptions after participating in the EIA programme for 12 months. The study found teachers and students had positive attitudes towards more communicative methodologies, English language learning and the EIA project, impacting on their confidence
