    MAP17 predicts sensitivity to platinum-based therapy, EGFR inhibitors and the proteasome inhibitor bortezomib in lung adenocarcinoma

    Background The high incidence and mortality of lung tumours is a major health problem. Therefore, the identification both of biomarkers predicting efficacy for therapies in use and of novel efficacious therapeutic agents is crucial to increase patient survival. MAP17 (PDZK1IP1) is a small membrane-bound protein whose upregulation is reported as a common feature in tumours from diverse histological origins. Furthermore, MAP17 is correlated with tumour progression. Go to: Methods We assessed the expression of MAP17 in preclinical models, including cell lines and patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), assessing its correlation with sensitivity to different standard-of-care drugs in lung adenocarcinoma, as well as novel drugs. At the clinical level, we subsequently correlated MAP17 expression in human tumours with patient response to these therapies. Go to: Results We show that MAP17 expression is induced during lung tumourigenesis, particularly in lung adenocarcinomas, and provide in vitro and in vivo evidence that MAP17 levels predict sensitivity to therapies currently under clinical use in adenocarcinoma tumours, including cisplatin, carboplatin and EGFR inhibitors. In addition, we show that MAP17 expression predicts proteasome inhibitor efficacy in this context and that bortezomib, an FDA-approved drug, may be a novel therapeutic approach for MAP17-overexpressing lung adenocarcinomas. Go to: Conclusions Our results indicate a potential prognostic role for MAP17 in lung tumours, with particular relevance in lung adenocarcinomas, and highlight the predictive pot0065ntial of this membrane-associated protein for platinum-based therapy and EGFR inhibitor efficacy.     Immigrant women living homeless in Madrid (Spain).

    Homeless people are one of the most obvious embodiments of the phenomenon of social exclusion, and homeless immigrants and homeless women are considered 2 particularly vulnerable groups. The objective of this article is to analyze the differences between women living homeless born in Spain (nonimmigrants) and those born abroad (immigrants). The study was carried out based on the data obtained from a sample of women living homeless in Madrid (Spain; N = 136). The information was collected using a structured interview. The results show major similarities between immigrant and nonimmigrant homeless women in terms of their basic sociodemographic characteristics (age, marital status, number of children), their state of health, satisfaction with their family and/or partner relationships, and feelings of loneliness or abandonment. Fewer immigrant women had their documentation in order, they received fewer financial benefits and their contact with their family of origin was more limited. However, the immigrant women became homeless at an older age and were subject to less chronic homelessness, their levels of consumption of alcohol and other psychoactive substances were lower, they had experienced fewer stressful life events, more of them had completed higher education, and more of them used mobile telephones and the Internet.     Polarization in Media Discourses on Europeanization in Spain

    Political and media polarization has had a detrimental impact on democratic principles and democratic processes on a global scale. In Europe, such polarization has eroded the trust in national and European institutions and has challenged the basic values that stand at the heart of the European integration project. The aim of this study is to analyze Spanish media discourses on Europeanization, with an attempt to identify key areas in which polarizing narratives related to Europeanization are more prevalent. To conduct our study, six national media outlets were selected based on four criteria: media format, ownership, ideology, and consumption. A final sample of 540 news items collected between July 2021 to March 2022 was selected for analysis. Using a qualitative methodological approach, the study was carried out in two stages. In the first phase, we conducted a content analysis to identify the main topics discussed in relation to the European Union and the actors represented in them. This led to the identification of polarizing narratives and discourses emerging in the context of the discussed topics.     Con este trabajo se pretende analizar la delimitación material de la responsabilidad civil sanitaria, centrando la atención en los principales temas de debate surgidos en este ámbito, en las problemáticas y diferencias existentes a nivel doctrinal. Como metodología seguida en este trabajo, me ha parecido imprescindible consultar diferentes libros y artículos académicos para tener un conocimiento más amplio sobre la responsabilidad civil sanitaria. Además, el trabajo va destinado al análisis jurisprudencial de sentencias de los últimos años (desde el año 2012 hasta la actualidad) que reflejan la mayoría de aspectos definidos teóricamente. Finalmente, de todo lo aprendido, expongo unas conclusiones en el último apartado

    El profesorado de nuestra Facultad ha ido solicitando la realización de cursos formativos sobre las nuevas tecnologías y profundizar en las herramientas más habituales, sobre todo, con las posibilidades que ofrece el Campus Virtual. Con este proyecto se pretendieron cubrir fundamentalmente dos demandas: - Optimizar la utilización de las plataformas virtuales. - Conocer herramientas offline útiles para la docencia y la coordinación docente. En total, se han realizado 7 actividades manteniendo una estructura lógica de cronología y continuidad en las mismas. De la mayoría de ellas se han generado tutoriales como material de ayuda, que se han puesto a disposición del resto de profesores y PAS en un Seminario de Trabajo abierto creado en Moodle expresamente, denominado “PIMCD2014: Reciclando conocimientos…” (seminario-invest-97673-11)

    Chronopotentiometric study of ceramic cation-exchange membranes based on zirconium phosphate in contact with nickel sulfate solutions

    In this article, the innovative cation-exchange membranes obtained from ceramic materials are presented. Different microporous ceramic supports were obtained from an initial mixture of alumina and kaolin, to which a varying content of starch was added in order to obtain supports with different pore size distributions. The deposition of zirconium phosphate into the porous supports generates membranes with cation-exchange properties. The fabrication of ion-exchange membranes which could resist aggressive electrolytes such as strong oxidizing spent chromium plating baths or radioactive solutions would allow the application of electrodialysis for the decontamination and regeneration of these industrial effluents. The performance of the manufactured membranes was studied in nickel sulfate solutions by means of chronopotentiometry. An increase of the membrane voltage drop during chronopotentiometric measurements was observed in some membranes, which seems to be a consequence of concentration polarization phenomena resulting from the ionic transfer occurred through the membranes. Current voltage curves were obtained for the different ceramic membranes, allowing the calculation of their ohmic resistance. The ohmic resistance of the membranes increased when the open porosity (OP) of the samples was incremented up to a value of 50%.
