(Non)-Renormalization of the Chiral Vortical Effect Coefficient
We show using diagramtic arguments that in some (but not all) cases, the
temperature dependent part of the chiral vortical effect coefficient is
independent of the coupling constant. An interpretation of this result in terms
of quantization in the effective 3 dimensional Chern-Simons theory is also
given. In the language of 3D dimensionally reduced theory, the value of the
chiral vortical coefficient is related to the formula . We also show that in the presence of dynamical gauge fields, the CVE
coefficient is not protected from renormalization, even in the large limit.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures. Version 2 corrects an error and calculates

Holographic Brownian Motion in Magnetic Environments
Using the gauge/gravity correspondence, we study the dynamics of a heavy
quark in two strongly-coupled systems at finite temperature: Super-Yang-Mills
in the presence of a magnetic field and non-commutative Super-Yang-Mills. In
the former, our results agree qualitatively with the expected behavior from
weakly-coupled theories. In the latter, we propose a Langevin equation that
accounts for the effects of non-commutativity and we find new interesting
features. The equation resembles the structure of Brownian motion in the
presence of a magnetic field and implies that the fluctuations along
non-commutative directions are correlated. Moreover, our results show that the
viscosity is smaller than the commutative case and that the diffusion
properties of the quark are unaffected by non-commutativity. Finally, we
compute the random force autocorrelator and verify that the
fluctuation-dissipation theorem holds in the presence of non-commutativity.Comment: 34 pages. v2: typos corrected. v3: title and abstract slightly

QCD with Chemical Potential in a Small Hyperspherical Box
To leading order in perturbation theory, we solve QCD, defined on a small
three sphere in the large N and Nf limit, at finite chemical potential and map
out the phase diagram in the (mu,T) plane. The action of QCD is complex in the
presence of a non-zero quark chemical potential which results in the sign
problem for lattice simulations. In the large N theory, which at low
temperatures becomes a conventional unitary matrix model with a complex action,
we find that the dominant contribution to the functional integral comes from
complexified gauge field configurations. For this reason the eigenvalues of the
Polyakov line lie off the unit circle on a contour in the complex plane. We
find at low temperatures that as mu passes one of the quark energy levels there
is a third-order Gross-Witten transition from a confined to a deconfined phase
and back again giving rise to a rich phase structure. We compare a range of
physical observables in the large N theory to those calculated numerically in
the theory with N=3. In the latter case there are no genuine phase transitions
in a finite volume but nevertheless the observables are remarkably similar to
the large N theory.Comment: 44 pages, 18 figures, jhep3 format. Small corrections and

Supercritical Fluid Deposition of Conformal SrTiO3 Films with Composition Uniformity in Nanocontact Holes
SrTiO3 with a high dielectric constant is considered a promising capacitor dielectric for dynamic random access memory. Until now, a SrTiO3 deposition with compositional uniformity and perfect conformality inside high-aspect nanoscale holes has been difficult by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD). In this study, we report a supercritical fluid deposition (SCFD) of SrTiO3. Compared to CVD SrTiO3, the SCFD SrTiO3 showed perfect conformality and compositional uniformity inside nanosize holes. From these results, the SCFD is expected to be a solution for the stoichiometry and conformality issues of the CVD and ALD SrTiO3.open111411sciescopu
Universality and exactness of Schrodinger geometries in string and M-theory
We propose an organizing principle for classifying and constructing
Schrodinger-invariant solutions within string theory and M-theory, based on the
idea that such solutions represent nonlinear completions of linearized vector
and graviton Kaluza-Klein excitations of AdS compactifications. A crucial
simplification, derived from the symmetry of AdS, is that the nonlinearities
appear only quadratically. Accordingly, every AdS vacuum admits infinite
families of Schrodinger deformations parameterized by the dynamical exponent z.
We exhibit the ease of finding these solutions by presenting three new
constructions: two from M5 branes, both wrapped and extended, and one from the
D1-D5 (and S-dual F1-NS5) system. From the boundary perspective, perturbing a
CFT by a null vector operator can lead to nonzero beta-functions for spin-2
operators; however, symmetry restricts them to be at most quadratic in
couplings. This point of view also allows us to easily prove nonrenormalization
theorems: for any Sch(z) solution of two-derivative supergravity constructed in
the above manner, z is uncorrected to all orders in higher derivative
corrections if the deforming KK mode lies in a short multiplet of an AdS
supergroup. Furthermore, we find infinite classes of 1/4 BPS solutions with
4-,5- and 7-dimensional Schrodinger symmetry that are exact.Comment: 31 pages, plus appendices; v2, minor corrections, added refs, slight

The particle number in Galilean holography
Recently, gravity duals for certain Galilean-invariant conformal field
theories have been constructed. In this paper, we point out that the spectrum
of the particle number operator in the examples found so far is not a necessary
consequence of the existence of a gravity dual. We record some progress towards
more realistic spectra. In particular, we construct bulk systems with
asymptotic Schrodinger symmetry and only one extra dimension. In examples, we
find solutions which describe these Schrodinger-symmetric systems at finite
density. A lift to M-theory is used to resolve a curvature singularity. As a
happy byproduct of this analysis, we realize a state which could be called a
holographic Mott insulator.Comment: 29 pages, 1 rudimentary figure; v2: typo in eqn (3.4), added comments

Stringy effects in black hole decay
We compute the low energy decay rates of near-extremal three(four) charge
black holes in five(four) dimensional N=4 string theory to sub-leading order in
the large charge approximation. This involves studying stringy corrections to
scattering amplitudes of a scalar field off a black hole. We adapt and use
recently developed techniques to compute such amplitudes as near-horizon
quantities. We then compare this with the corresponding calculation in the
microscopic configuration carrying the same charges as the black hole. We find
perfect agreement between the microscopic and macroscopic calculations; in the
cases we study, the zero energy limit of the scattering cross section is equal
to four times the Wald entropy of the black hole.Comment: 32 page
Quality of life among people living with hypertension in a rural Vietnam community
Background - To respond to growing prevalence of hypertension in Vietnam, it is critical to have an in-depth understanding about quality of life (QOL) among people living with hypertension and related factors. This study aimed to measure QOL among hypertensive people in a rural community in Vietnam, and its association with socio-demographic characteristics and factors related to treatment. Methods - This study was conducted in a rural community located 60 km from Ho Chi Minh City. Face-to-face interviews were conducted among 275 hypertensive people aged 50 years and above using WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to examine mean scores of quality of life. Cronbachās alpha coefficient and Pearsonās correlation coefficient were applied to estimate the internal consistency, and the level of agreement between different domains of WHOQOL-BREF, respectively. Independent T-test and ANOVA test followed by multiple linear regression analyses were used to measure the association between QOL domains and independent variables. Results - Both overall WHOQOL-BREF and each domain had a good internal consistency, ranging from 0.65 to 0.88. The QOL among hypertensive patients was found moderate in all domains, except for psychological domain that was fairly low (mean = 49.4). Backward multiple linear regressions revealed that being men, married, attainment of higher education, having physical activities at moderate level, and adherence to treatment were positively associated with QOL. However, older age and presence of co-morbidity were negatively associated with QOL. Conclusion - WHOQOL-BREF is a reliable instrument to measure QOL among hypertensive patients. The results revealed low QOL in psychological domain and inequality in QOL across socio-demographic characteristics. Given the results, encouraging physical activities and strengthening treatment adherence should be considered to improve QOL of hypertensive people, especially for psychological aspect. Actions to improve QOL among hypertensive patients targeted towards women, lower educated and unmarried patients are needed in the setting
Magnetic properties of holographic multiquarks in the quark-gluon plasma
We study the magnetic properties of the coloured multiquark states in the
quark-gluon plasma where the gluons are deconfined and the chiral symmetry is
still broken, using the Sakai-Sugimoto model. There are two possible magnetized
multiquark configurations. Both configurations converge to the same
configuration at the critical field and temperature before they dissociate
altogether either into less coloured multiquarks or into other phases for a
fixed density. It is also found that the multiquarks with higher colour charges
respond more to the external magnetic field in both the magnetization and the
degree of chiral symmetry breaking. Magnetic field also makes it more difficult
for multiquark states with large colour charges to satisfy the equilibrium
condition of the configuration in the gravity dual picture. As long as the
chemical potential , the magnetized multiquarks phase is
thermodynamically preferred over the magnetized vacuum. Pure pion gradient and
the chiral-symmetric quark-gluon plasma (-QGP) phase for the general
Sakai-Sugimoto model are discussed and compared with the multiquark phase in
the presence of the magnetic field. It is found that at large densities and
moderate fields, the mixed phase of multiquarks and the pion gradient is
thermodynamically preferred over the -QGP.Comment: 26 pages, 16 figures, revised version with significant changes and
