    Interleaving Gains for Receive Diversity Schemes of Distributed Turbo Codes in Wireless Half–Duplex Relay Channels

    This paper proposes the interleaving gain in two different distributed turbo-coding schemes: Distributed Turbo Codes (DTC) and Distributed Multiple Turbo Codes (DMTC) for half-duplex relay system as an extension of our previous work on turbo coding interleaver design for direct communication channel. For these schemes with half-duplex constraint, the source node transmits its information with the parity bit sequence(s) to both the relay and the destination nodes during the first phase. The relay received the data from the source and process it by using decode and forward protocol. For the second transmission period, the decoded systematic data at relay is interleaved and re-encoded by a Recursive Systematic Convolutional (RSC) encoder and forwarded to the destination. At destination node, the signals received from the source and relay are processed by using turbo log-MAP iterative decoding for retrieving the original information bits. We demonstrate via simulations that the interleaving gain has a large effect with DTC scheme when we use only one RSC encoder at both the source and relay with best performance when using Modified Matched S-Random (MMSR) interleaver. Furthermore, by designing a Chaotic Pseudo Random Interleaver (CPRI) as an outer interleaver at the source node instead of classical interleavers, our scheme can add more secure channel conditions

    Penile Torsion: an Overlooked Anomaly with Distal Hypospadias

    Purpose: To identify the incidence of penile torsion among patients with hypospadias, while using a simple and objective ethod to measure the degree of rotation. Materials & Methods: From December 2007 to March 2009, all boys presenting to our department for hypospadias repair (100 boys) were examined for associating penile torsion. The angle of penile rotation was measured on an end-on digital photograph of the penis, using MillenMed DICOM viewer program for image analysis. Two techniques were used to correct penile torsion. In group A (9 patients), we used the technique of degloving and repositioning the penile skin. In group B (10 patients), we applied the technique of dorsal dartos flap rotation. Results: Penile torsion was present in 19 out of 58 patients with anterior hypospadias (32.8%), while none of 42 patients with posterior hypospadias had associating penile torsion. Follow-up showed satisfactory correction of penile torsion in 3 out of 9 patients in group A; and in 8 out of 10 patients in group B. Conclusion: Penile torsion is a common association with anterior hypospadias (32.8%), and its correction can be simply performed during the hypospadias repair adding to a better cosmetic outcome. Dorsal dartos flap rotation seems to be more effective for correction of penile torsion than simply degloving and repositioning the penile skin.Index Word: penis; hypospadias; abnormalities

    It is now known that the pineal organ can interact with many endocrine and nonendocrine tissues in a regulatory fashion. Given its key role in the regulation of melatonin synthesis, its high concentration, and that its levels may persist longer than the more rapidly changing melatonin, it was felt that serotonin might give a more accurate assessment of the effects of microgravity on pineal function following recovery of animals from flight. Five-hydroxyindole acetic acid (5-HIAA), a major metabolite of serotonin metabolism, was also measured. One of the most interesting concomitants to spaceflight and exposure to microgravity has been the disturbing alteration in calcium metabolism and resulting skeletal effects.     Efficacy of essential oils as antiseptics on the productive characteristics of the mulberry silkworm Bombyx mori L.

    The study aimed to test the efficacy of three essential oils (basil Ocimum basilicum L., lemon Citrus limon (L.) Osbeck, and thyme Thymus vulgaris L.) as disinfectants, including their positive and negative effects, on the biological and productive parameters of the silkworm Bombyx mori. Biological parameters: basil oil treatment at 2000 ppm the highest significant 5th instar larval weight and pupal weight were 2.226 g and 0.787 g. In addition, at the same concentration, recorded the lowest significant mortality percentage and 5th instar larval duration, were 0.787 g and 5.09% respectively. On the other hand, lemon and thyme oils at 4000 ppm come in the second place the same parameters, compared to the control and the chemical disinfectant. While it is equal to the concentration of 8000 ppm for the oils tested in all biological parameters with the control and chemical disinfectant. Economical parameters: basil oil at 2000 ppm and lemon and thyme oils at 4000 ppm had the highest significance for cocoon weights, cocoon shell weight, and silk productivity, which were 1.203 g, 0.220 g, 2.34 cg for basil oil, 1.139 g, 0.210 g, 2.367 cg for lemon oil and 1.265 g, 0.216 g, 2.397 cg for thyme oil, compared with control and disinfectant chemical groups (0.993 g, 0.157 g, 1.49 cg and 0.991 g, 0.160 g, 1.68 cg, respectively).
