Distributed machining control and monitoring using smart sensors/actuators

The study of smart sensors and actuators led, during the past few years, to the development of facilities which improve traditional sensors and actuators in a necessary way to automate production systems. In an other context, many studies are carried out aiming at defining a decisional structure for production activity control and the increasing need of reactivity leads to the autonomization of decisional levels close to the operational system. We suggest in this paper to study the natural convergence between these two approaches and we propose an integration architecture dealing with machine tool and machining control that enables the exploitation of distributed smart sensors and actuators in the decisional system

Sostenibilidad energética y viabilidad monetaria de los cultivos herbáceos extensivos ecológico en Andalucía

Una de las características más importantes de la agricultura es su capacidad para transformar la energía y generar “excedentes” energéticos con diversos usos (alimentación humana, animal, fertilización, etc.). Estos excedentes energéticos son potencialmente mayores en la agricultura ecológica como resultado del menor uso de insumos vinculados a la energía fósil. Los cereales y las leguminosas son cultivos que se caracterizan por altos outputs y balances de energía, ambos indicadores fundamentales de la sostenibilidad agraria. En este trabajo se analiza, tanto en términos monetarios como energéticos, el comportamiento de los cultivos extensivos ecológicos en Andalucía para el año 2005. Así mismo, se realiza un análisis comparativo entre los resultados energéticos obtenidos en el presente estudio y los aportados en otros estudios nacionales e internacionales. El balance monetario y energético de los cultivos extensivos se estimó en 2,47 y 3,65 respectivamente. Este último se incrementa hasta 6,49 si solamente se tiene en cuenta el uso de energía no renovable. Economic assessment of nutritional recommendations

The effect of consumers’ compliance with nutritional recommendations is uncertain because of potentially complex substitutions. To lift this uncertainty, we adapt a model of consumer behaviour under rationing to the case of linear nutritional constraints. Dietary adjustments are thus derived from information on consumer preferences, consumption levels, and nutritional contents of foods. A calibration exercise simula tes, for different incomegroups, how the French diet would respond to various nutrition recommendations, and those behavioural adjustments are translated into health outcomes through the DIETRON epidemiological model. This allows for the ex-ante comparison of the efficiency, equity and health effects of ten nutritional recommendations. Although most recommendations impose significant taste costs on consumers,they are highly cost-effective, with the recommen dations targeting salt, saturated fat, and fruits and vegetables (F&V) ranking highest in terms of efficiency. A five percent change in consumption of any of those nutrients or food would reduce premature mortality in excess of 2100 lives annually. By contrast, urging consumers to modify their consumption of fibers, sugar-fat products and dietary cholesterol is unlikely to be socially desirable, often due to large unintended adjustments in some dimensions of dietary quality. High-frequency behavior of the Datta-Das spin transistor
