Effect of Background Intensity on Resolution

    Get PDF
The paper discusses the effect of background intensity on the resolving power tables, illustrated by graphs, have been given for the variation of resolving power with background intensity in case of Fabry-Perot etalon, prism, grating and reflecting echelon, and when the instrumental width is negligible

Shrinkage Effect of Close Components in Spectroscopic Instruments

    Get PDF
Neglecting the Doppler width, the author has calculated the shift of maxima caused by mutual overlapping of intensity patterns of very close spectral lines for a number of spectroscopic instruments. A table, which may be used to correct for shrinkage effect has been given for Fabry Perot ctalon. The value of the resolving power of Fabry Perot etalon according to Abbe’s criterion has also boon refined taking into account the shrinkage effect

he authors have discussed the variation of resolving power of prism, grating and reflecting echelon with the value chosen for 1min/1max at limiting resolution, which is characteristic of the stage of resolution desired and the detecting instrument

    Kinetics of complex plasmas

    No full text
The presentation in the book is based on charge balance on the dust particles, number and energy balance of the constituents and atom-ion-electron interaction in the gaseous plasma. Size distribution of dust particles, statistical mechanics, Quantum effects in electron emission from and accretion on dust particles and nonlinear interaction of complex plasmas with electric and electromagnetic fields have been discussed in the book. The book introduces the reader to basic concepts and typical applications. The book should be of use to researchers, engineers and graduate students

Non-linear generation of third harmonic in a magnetoplasma

    No full text
In this communication, the authors have obtained an expression for the third harmonic component of the current density in a magnetoplasma, when the elastic field is at right angles to the direction of the magnetic field, by setting up and solving Boltzmann's transfer equation for electrons; in the expansion of the distribution function of electron velocities, the coefficient of vx2 has also been taken into account. This expression has been substituted n the appropriate wave equation and the solutions have been used to study the generation of third harmonic of an electromagnetic wave in a magnetoplasma and on reflection from a magnetoplasma free-space interface, when the direction of propagation of the wave is along the magnetic field. Some numerical results depicting the phenomenon of resonance have also been given. An interesting result is that, when a pure mode of the fundamental propagates in a magnetoplasma, only the, other mode of the third harmonic will be generated

Burning of single drops of fuel in an oxidizing atmosphere

    No full text
In their discussion of the burning of single drops in an oxidizing atmosphere Goldsmith and Penner have assumed conduction to be the sole mechanism of heat transfer. In the present paper the authors have employed the well known expression for the rate evaporation of droplet due to Maxwell and Langmuir, instead of the above arbitrary assumption. The weight fraction of the fuel and oxidizer have been expressed as functions of the fuel and oxidizer have been expressed as functions of the distance from the droplet center. Expressions for the radius and temperature of the flame front have also been derived

The authors have calculated the resolving power of compound Fabry-perot etalon on both Rayleigh and Abbe criteria, taking into account the contribution of the tails of the individual intensity patterns of the two lines to the maxima of resultant intensity patter
