    Flood disaster indicator of water level monitoring system

    The early warning systems for flood management have been developed rapidly with the growth of technologies. These system help to alert people early with the used of Short Message Service (SMS) via Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM). This paper presents a simple, portable and low cost of early warning system using Arduino board, which is used to control the whole system and GSM shields to send the data. System has been designed and implemented based on two components which is hardware and software. The model determines the water level using float switch sensors, then it analyzes the collected data and determine the type of danger present. The detected level is translated into an alert message and sent to the user. The GSM network is used to connect the overall system units via SMS

    This paper aims to present the development of an Intelligent Quad Cane with Global Positioning System (GPS) Allocation for Tachyarrhythmia. Heart attack symptoms vary between individual. Usually, senior citizen or cardiovascular patient is not aware of their heartbeat rate. Lack of early warning is the most common reason of the patient die because of a heart attack. Thus, this project offers an early warning for the cardiovascular patient to the charged person. Furthermore, this project is able to analyze and indicate an abnormality in heart rate pulse for the user. Sinus tachycardia and Supraventricular tachycardia was chosen as a research subject because this disease is an early complication of the heart attack. The uses of Global System for Mobile (GSM) and GPS modules in this project can make the charged person receives the notification from the patient via Short Message Service (SMS) which contains the exact location together with patient’s condition. This condition shortens the time of ambulance to arrive

    Religious value as the main influencing factor to customers patronizing Islamic bank

    Islamic bank in Malaysia was established in 1983. The development of the Islamic bank is increasingly challenging with the participation of more conventional banks offering banking products and services based on Islamic principles. This paper analyses the factors considered as important by academicians in public institutions of higher learning in selecting a particular bank. A sample of 250 Islamic bank customers in seven Malaysian Public Institutions of Higher Learning in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia was surveyed. The study revealed that religious value appears to be the most important factor. Other factors perceived to be important include ATM services, financial security, cost and benefit and attractiveness. It is to be concluded that, even though there are a lot of determining factors the religious value practised by the consumers plays a vital role in influencing them to patronize Islamic banking. For future studies, it is recommended to add more samples from other categories of consumers from different parts of the country

    This paper presented an automatic healthcare system where the system able to help and facilitates the paralysis patient to complete their daily life. When a patient suffers from a paralysis attack, the whole or partial of their body maybe disabled to move which means their movement is restricted and they also barely to communicate with anyone because they are unable to speak like a normal person. It will be hard for medical staff to understand what they want to convey and in helping them to manage their daily needs such as eating, drinking, bathing and etc. By developing this project, the health officer can assist the paralyzed patient when they are alerted by the message from patient via GSM network. There are several instruction of movement gesture sensor presented in this paper in order to assist health officer in helping the paralyzed patient to complete their needs. Whenever the patient gives the simple hand movement instruction, then it will be delivered through SMS and the alerted notice will be display on notification board to alert the health officers for assisting the patient

    Creating an engaging and stimulating anatomy lecture environment using the Cognitive Load Theory-based Lecture Model: Students' experiences

    Objective: There is a need to create a standard interactive anatomy lecture that can engage students in their learning process. This study investigated the impact of a new lecturing guideline, the Cognitive Load Theory-based Lecture Model (CLT-bLM), on students’ cognitive engagement and motivation. Methods: A randomised controlled trial involving 197 participants from three institutions was conducted. The control group attended a freestyle lecture on the gross anatomy of the heart, delivered by a qualified anatomist from each institution. The intervention group attended a CLT-bLM-based lecture on a similar topic, delivered by the same lecturer, three weeks thereafter. The lecturers had attended a CLT-bLM workshop that allowed them to prepare for the CLT-bLM-based lecture over the course of three weeks. The students’ ratings on their cognitive engagement and internal motivation were evaluated immediately after the lecture using a validatedLearners’ Engagement and Motivation Questionnaire. The differences between variables were analysed and the results were triangulated with the focus group discussion findings that explored students’ experience while attending the lecture. Results: The intervention group has a significantly higher level of cognitive engagement than the control group; however, no significant difference in internal motivation score was found. In addition, the intervention group reported having a good learning experience from the lectures. Conclusion: The guideline successfully stimulated students’ cognitive engagement and learning experience, which indicates a successful stimulation of students’ germane resources. Stimulation of these cognitive resources is essential for successful cognitive processing, especially when learning a difficult subject such as anatomy

    Developing constructs of anatomy education environment measurement: A Delphi study

    Inadequate anatomical knowledge due to unsatisfactory anatomy education environment has contributed to poor clinical performance among medical graduates. Unfortunately, no specific environment measurement tool is available. Delphi technique was conducted to identify the anatomy education environment components and their items. It involved identification of possible components and their definitions by nine anatomists which were then appraised and verified, getting critical appraisal from five medical educationists, determining suitable items for each component and finally appraised by content experts. Eleven components with 129 items that might represent the anatomy education environment were proposed. Further validation is required to determine its psychometric properties

    Gut microbiota in early life and its influence on health and disease: a position paper by the Malaysian Working Group on Gastrointestinal Health

    The role of gut microbiota in early life and its impact on gut health and subsequent diseases remain unclear. There is a lack of research and awareness in this area, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, including Malaysia. This paper reports the position of a Malaysian Working Group on some key issues surrounding gut microbiota in early life and its role in gut health and diseases, as well as experts’ stand on probiotics and prebiotics. The group reached a consensus that certain factors, including elective caesarean; premature deliveries; complementary feeding; use of antibiotics, prebiotics and/or probiotics; and exposure to the external environmental, have an impact on gut microbiota in early life. However, as evidence is lacking, especially from the Asia-Pacific region, further studies are needed to understand how gut microbiota in early life affects subsequent diseases, including allergy, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity and infantile colic. Lastly, although beneficial in acute diarrhoeal disease and probably allergic eczema, probiotics (and/or prebiotics) should be used cautiously in other gut dysbiotic conditions until more data are available
