Restrictions on the Internet Freedom in Turkey
Turkey's Internet has 42.3 million active users and holds a 'Not Free' ranking in Freedom House's index. The Turkish Government has constantly blocked websites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Wikipedia. According to Twitter's transparency report, Turkey leads in social media censorship. Reporters Without Borders ranked Turkey 149th out of over 180 countries, between Mexico and DR Congo, with a score of 44.16. In my study, I summarize the legislative amendments of recent years that apply to internet regulation, with particular regard to those rules that allow the restriction of internet freedom. I pay special attention to the institutional changes that followed these amendments
Fear not…! Turkish nationalism and the six arrows system — A state in search of a nation
“Korkma — Fear not” starts the Turkish national anthem that was officially adopted on 12 March 1921. A framed version of the Turkish national anthem, the symbol of the nation, and in wider sense the historical Turkic symbols of kinship typically occupy the wall above the blackboard in the classrooms of Turkish schools, accompanied by a Turkish flag, a photograph of the country’s founding father Atatürk, and a copy of Atatürk’s famous inspirational speech to the nation’s youth from the concluding remarks to his 20 October 1927 address to the Parliament. The concept of nationalism of Atatürk remained a universal and timeless constitutional reference in Turkey. In the first part of this paper, the nature of Turkish nationalism at the time of its emergence is examined, studying this state shaped nationalism in a comparative context. The second part focuses on the constellation of the Atatürk’s nationalism in the symbiotic system of the six arrows: nationalism, laicism, populism, republicanism, etatism and revolutionism
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s effect on the new concept of the Turkish identity and citizenship in particular the constitutional regulation of the young Turkish Republic
Az állampolgárság egy olyan stratĂ©giai fontosságĂş fogalom, amely központi szerepet játszik az identitás, a hatalomban törtĂ©nĹ‘ rĂ©szvĂ©tel, a hatalommal törtĂ©nĹ‘ felruházás, az emberi jogok Ă©s a közĂ©rdek fogalmainak meghatározása során is. Mustafa Kemal AtatĂĽrk (a modern Törökország megálmodĂłja Ă©s alapĂtĂłja) a Török Köztársaság megalakulásának 10.
Akiért a harang szól – Osman Kavala
Az isztambuli 13. bĂĽntetĹ‘bĂrĂłság 2022. április 25. napján a kormány megdöntĂ©sĂ©re irányulĂł kĂsĂ©rlet vádjával tĂ©nyleges Ă©letfogytiglani börtönbĂĽntetĂ©sre ĂtĂ©lte Osman Kavala filantrĂłp, török emberi jogi jogvĂ©dĹ‘t. Az ellene felhozott vádak a 2013. május Ă©s szeptember között a Gezi parkban törtĂ©nt esemĂ©nyekhez (török bĂĽntetĹ‘ törvĂ©nykönyv 312. cikk) Ă©s a 2016. jĂşlius 15-i puccskĂsĂ©rletben (török bĂĽntetĹ‘ törvĂ©nykönyv 309. cikk) valĂł rĂ©szvĂ©telhez kapcsolĂłdtak. A vádpontok a kormány Ă©s az alkotmányos rend megdöntĂ©sĂ©re irányulĂł kĂsĂ©rlet Ă©s kĂ©mkedĂ©s, valamint a Recep Tayyip ErdoÄźan elnök kormánya elleni puccskĂsĂ©rletben valĂł rĂ©szvĂ©tel voltak. 2019. december 10-Ă©n az Emberi Jogok EurĂłpai BĂrĂłsága ĂtĂ©letĂ©ben megállapĂtotta, hogy Törökország politikai cĂ©lokra használta fel a fogva tartást, megsĂ©rtve Kavala szabadsághoz valĂł jogait, Ă©s rosszhiszeműen járt el. A Kavala-ĂtĂ©let, mint az Emberi Jogok EurĂłpai BĂrĂłságának minden ĂtĂ©lete, jogilag kötelezĹ‘ Ă©rvĂ©nyű, a török hatĂłságok azonban figyelmen kĂvĂĽl hagyták a strasbourgi bĂrĂłság ĂtĂ©letĂ©t. Válaszul a Miniszteri Bizottság 2022. február 2-án megszavazta, hogy kötelezettsĂ©gszegĂ©si eljárást indĂtsanak Törökország ellen többek között az EurĂłpai BĂrĂłság ĂtĂ©letĂ©nek be nem tartása miatt, amely fontos lĂ©pĂ©s a törökországi emberi jogok vĂ©delmĂ©nek támogatása Ă©s a nemzetközi emberi jogi keretek betartása terĂ©n
Chronic kidney disease may evoke anxiety by altering CRH expression in the amygdala and tryptophan metabolism in rats
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with anxiety; however, its exact mechanism is not well understood. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to assess the effect of moderate CKD on anxiety in rats. 5/6 nephrectomy was performed in male Wistar rats. 7 weeks after, anxiety-like behavior was assessed by elevated plus maze (EPM), open field (OF), and marble burying (MB) tests. At weeks 8 and 9, urinalysis was performed, and blood and amygdala samples were collected, respectively. In the amygdala, the gene expression of Avp and the gene and protein expression of Crh , Crhr1 , and Crhr2 were analyzed. Furthermore, the plasma concentration of corticosterone, uremic toxins, and tryptophan metabolites was measured by UHPLC-MS/MS. Laboratory tests confirmed the development of CKD. In the CKD group, the closed arm time increased; the central time and the total number of entries decreased in the EPM. There was a reduction in rearing, central distance and time in the OF, and fewer interactions with marbles were detected during MB. CKD evoked an upregulation of gene expression of Crh , Crhr1 , and Crhr2 , but not Avp , in the amygdala. However, there was no alteration in protein expression. In the CKD group, plasma concentrations of p-cresyl-sulfate, indoxyl-sulfate, kynurenine, kynurenic acid, 3-hydroxykynurenine, anthranilic acid, xanthurenic acid, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, picolinic acid, and quinolinic acid increased. However, the levels of tryptophan, tryptamine, 5-hydroxytryptophan, serotonin, and tyrosine decreased. In conclusion, moderate CKD evoked anxiety-like behavior that might be mediated by the accumulation of uremic toxins and metabolites of the kynurenine pathway, but the contribution of the amygdalar CRH system to the development of anxiety seems to be negligible at this stage
