    Study on fungicidal effect of plant extracts on plant pathogenic fungi and the economy of extract preparation and efficacy in comparison to synthetic/chemical fungicides

    Providing food security to devastatingly increasing population with limited natural resources along with destruction caused by pre- and post-harvest pathogens are the foremost concerns for the developing countries. Numerous pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers are being applied by the farmers to deal with the existing situation but leave very disastrous and undesirable after effects on ecosystem as non-degradable molecules.. Botanicals can be utilized as an ecofriendly and effective alternative against chemical as they are of natural origin. In this context, two chemical/synthetic fungicides namely Manzate and Nystanin in three different concentrations namely 500ppm, 1000 ppm and 1500 ppm were evaluated against Sclerotium rolfsii, Alternaria alternata, Fusarium monilifrome, Rhizoctonia solani and Aspergillus niger in vitro to compare them with ethanolic botanical extracts of spices (clove, cinnamon, thyme) and weeds (parthenium and calotropis) at 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. Results revealed the high efficacy of botanicals i.e. clove extracts showed maximum inhibition (100%), followed by reduced inhibition in cinnamon, thyme, Parthenium and Calotropis treated plates against all five pathogens even at 5% concentration in comparison to chemical of 500 ppm concentration i.e. 100% in case of S.rolfsii only. Hence the herbal products can be further analyzed and applied as a potent, ecofriendly and economical substitute to chemicals

    A complete description of the magnetic ground state in spinel vanadates

    Capturing the non-collinear magnetic ground state of the spinel vanadates AV2_2O4_4 (A= Mn, Fe and Co) remains an outstanding challenge for state-of-the-art ab-initio methods. We demonstrate that both the non-collinear spin texture, as well as the magnitude of local moments, are captured by a single value of the on-site Hubbard UU of 2.7~eV in conjunction with the local spin density approximation (LSDA+UU), provided the source term (i.e., magnetic monopole term) is removed from the exchange-correlation magnetic field BXC{\bf B}_{XC}. We further demonstrate that the magnetic monopole structure in BXC{\bf B}_{XC} is highly sensitive to the value of UU, to the extent that the interplay between on-site localization and local moment magnitude is qualitatively different depending on whether the source term is removed or not. This suggests that in treating strongly correlated magnetic materials within the LSDA+UU formalism, subtraction of the unphysical magnetic monopole term from the exchange-correlation magnetic field is essential to correctly treat the magnetic ground state.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Abstract The public or emergency services do not know the nearby location and the level of services. The lack of such information may cause several causalities. Hence, the research question arises in a way to answer how to direct the emergency vehicle to reach the accident spot in right time. So, routing the vehicle and making traffic signal control as per vehicle movement is necessary. There is loss of life due to the delay in the arrival of Emergency vehicle to the accident place. To achieve these required conditions we suggest implementing a System called Emergency Vehicles Monitoring System (EVMS) Emergency vehicle monitoring System can integrate GPS, GSM, GIS services. The GPS devices deliver the data concerning the Emergency vehicle position and their shortest route. As an input of the main server the Google map allows to choose shortest route between emergency vehicle and accident spot. The Traffic preemption Device is often used for various emergency vehicle recognition. Traffic preemption devices can be installed on emergency vehicles, operated by remote control from the main server. Among them emergency vehicle .their traffic control signal abilities can implemented for traffic control signal for emergency vehicles. The idea behind this scheme is to implement an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) which would control the traffic lights in the path of the emergency vehicle. The server determines the location of the accident spot; through the sensor systems in the emergency vehicle/, the server using shortest path method can guide the emergency vehicle to the accident spot

    Effect of Malathion on Reproductive Parameters of Engorged Female Rhipicephalus

    The present study was aimed at evaluating effects of malathion on the various reproductive parameters, namely, egg mass weight (EMW), reproductive index (RI), percentage inhibition of oviposition (%IO), and hatchability percentage of eggs of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (Canestrini 1887) females from 19 districts of Punjab, India. The effect on various parameters was found to be dose dependent and more discernible upon exposure to higher concentrations. Complete cessation of egg laying was recorded in tick isolates on exposure to 5000 ppm and above. The values of %IO ranged in 4.4–68.6, 25.2–76.2, 35.6–100.0, 45.7–100.0, and 71.4–100.0 in groups treated with 1250, 2500, 5000, 10000, and 20000 ppm of malathion, respectively. A low hatching % was recorded in eggs of all treated female ticks in comparison to control treated with distilled water and complete inhibition of hatching was recorded at 10000 ppm and above. However, the survival of the hatched larvae was not affected and was similar to control group. The results of the current study can be of immense help in formulation and implementation of effective tick control measures

    Clinical and etiological spectrum of prolonged fever and special reference to HIV patients at a tertiary care centre

    Background: Prolonged fever is a diagnostic challenge and will tend to remain so in times to come because of the changing spectrum of etiologies and influence of technology, environmental changes, and many other ill-understood factors which influence the etiological spectrum. Prolonged fever is also undergoing change in its duration. The aim of the present was study to determine the etiologies of prolonged fever in patients in India and to evaluate the clinical and etiological relationship between the diagnosis and patient’s laboratory data.Methods: Patients aged more 13 years with fever >38.3ºC for more than three weeks without apparent source after preliminary investigations were included prospectively over a period of twenty two months. Fever duration, symptom, signs, laboratory investigations and final diagnosis were recorded. The distribution of etiologies and age, fever duration, laboratory examinations, and associated symptoms and signs were analyzed.Results: Out of total of 86 patients were enrolled, fifty one (59.3%) were men. The median age was 28 years (range, 13-65 yr). Among 86 patients, diagnosis could be made in only 69 (80.2%) patients. Infections, neoplasms, NIIDs, miscellaneous causes were responsible for prolonged fever in 42 (48.8%), 18 (20.9%), 6 (7%), and 3 (3.5%) patients respectively. Seveteen (19.8%) cases remained undiagnosed, even after relevant investigations, six of them recovered spontaneously. Tuberculosis (TB) was the cause of prolonged fever in 21 (24.4%) patients.Conclusions: Infections, amongst which tuberculosis, remain the major cause of prolonged fever and its subset: fever of unknown origin (FUO), in this country. The percent of undiagnosed cases appears to be identical worldwide

The paper introduces the decision making model which is based on the application of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Essentially the business spatial data illustrate the group behaviors. The swarm optimization, which is highly influenced by the behavior of creature, performs in group. The Spatial data is defined as data that is represented by 2D or 3D images. SQL Server supports only 2D images till now. As we know that location is an essential part of any organizational data as well as business data: enterprises maintain customer address lists, own property, ship goods from and to warehouses, manage transport flows among their workforce, and perform many other activities. By means to say a lot of spatial data is used and processed by enterprises, organizations and other bodies in order to make the things more visible and self-descriptive.     Mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of graphene oxide-carbon nanotube/ ABS hybrid polymer nanocomposites

    Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), functionalized carbon nanotubes (FCNTs) and graphene oxide-carbon nanotube (GCNTs) hybrid Bucky paper (BP) reinforced acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) composites are prepared via vacuum filtration followed by hot compression molding. The nanomechanical, electrical and thermal properties of these BP reinforced ABS composites are studied. The nanoindentation hardness and elastic modulus of GCNTs-ABS hybrid composites reached to 389.98 +/- 91.79 MPa and 7669.6 +/- 1179.12 MPa respectively. Other nanomechanical parameters such as plastic index parameter, elastic recovery, the ratio of residual displacement after load removal and displacement at maximum load are also investigated. The improved nanomechanical properties are correlated with Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It is found that GCNTs and their composites showed the higher value of defect density. The maximum value of defect density range for GCNTs and GCNTs-ABS is (297.4 to 159.6) and (16.0 to11.6), respectively. The higher defect density of GCNTs indicates that the interfacial interaction between the ABS, which was further correlated with electrical and thermal properties. Additionally, the through-plane electrical conductivities of MWCNTs, FCNTs and GCNTs based ABS composites were 6.5 +/- 0.6, 4.5 +/- 0.7 and 6.97 +/- 1.2 S/cm respectively and thermal conductivities of MWCNTs, FCNTs and GCNTs reinforced ABS composites; 1.80, 1.70 and 1.98 W/mK respectively. These GCNTs-ABS composites with this value of thermal conductivity can be used in various applications of efficient heat dissipative materials for electronic devices

    Manufacturing and characterization of regenerated cellulose/curcumin based sustainable composites fibers spun from environmentally benign solvents

    We report a novel manufacturing method for bio renewable regenerated cellulose fibres modified with curcumin, a molecule is known for its medicinal properties. Ionic liquid namely 1-Ethyl 3-Methyl Imidazolium diethyl phosphate (emim DEP) was found to be capable of dissolving cellulose as well as curcumin. Regenerated cellulose/curcumin composites fibres with curcumin concentration ranging from 1 to 10 wt% were manufactured using dry jet wet fibres spinning process using three different winding speeds. All the cellulose and curcumin composite fibres showed distinct yellow colour imparted by curcumin. The resultant fibres were characterised using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy, mechanical testing, and X-Ray diffraction studies. Scanning electron microscopy of cellulose/curcumin fibres cross-section did not show curcumin aggregates in cellulose fibres indicating uniform dispersion of curcumin in cellulose matrix. The cellulose chain alignment in cellulose/curcumin composite fibres resulted in tensile strength ranging from 223 to 336 MPa and Young’s modulus ranging from 13 to 14.9 GPa. The mechanical properties of cellulose/curcumin composite fibres thus obtained are better than some of the commercially available regenerated cellulose viscose fibres. The wide-angle X-ray diffraction analysis of cellulose/curcumin composite fibres showed good alignment of cellulose chains along the fibre axis. Thus, our findings are a major step in manufacturing strong cellulose fibres with a pharmacologically potent drug curcumin which in future could be used for medicinal, cosmetic and food packaging applications

    Design and Development of Site Specific Grape Vineyard Fertilizer Applicator Prototype

    402-407The current fertiliser application methods for grape vines are labour intensive and lead to overuse of fertiliser. Frequent rain and vineyard orchard wash over often pollute water sources. Therefore, the right amount and placement of fertiliser can not only improve crop growth but also reduce the risk of chemicals to human health and the environment. To overcome the above problems a site specific fertiliser applicator for grape vineyard with mechanical sensing system was developed. The sensing system was designed to apply fertiliser to the root zone of the plant canopy. An experimental unit was developed to optimise design and operation parameters for fertiliser production per plant. The urea's physical and engineering qualities were determined for metering mechanism design. The average value of bulk density, angle of repose, urea grain diameter, grain weight in single flute measured were 0.759 ± 0.011 gcm−3, 26.22 ± 1.18°, 3.38 ± 0.23 mm, 1.46 ± 0.04 g, respectively. The coefficient of static friction with plywood, galvanised iron and mild steel with painted surface were observed 0.3177 ± 0.0092, 0.2868 ± 0.0077, and 0.3177 ± 0.0092, respectively. For fertiliser given per plant, the effect of exposure length was p < 0.001. The sensor device opens the delivery tube for fertiliser in 0.9–0.95s

    Prebiotic Catalytic Peptide Ligation Yields Proteinogenic Peptides by Intramolecular Amide Catalyzed Hydrolysis Facilitating Regioselective Lysine Ligation in Neutral Water

    The prebiotic origin of catalyst-controlled peptide synthesis is fundamental to understanding the emergence of life. Building on our recent discovery that thiols catalyze the ligation of amino acids, amides, and peptides with amidonitriles in neutral water, we demonstrate the outcome of ligation depends on pH and that high pKa primary thiols are the ideal catalysts. While the most rapid thiol catalyzed peptide ligation occurs at pH 8.5-9, the most selective peptide ligation, that tolerates all proteinogenic side chains, occurs at pH 7. We have also identified the highly selective mechanism by which the intermediate peptidyl amidines undergo hydrolysis to α-peptides while demonstrating that the hydrolysis of amidines with nonproteinogenic structures, such as β- and γ-peptides, displays poor selectivity. Notably, this discovery enables the highly α-selective protecting-group-free ligation of lysine peptides at neutral pH while leaving the functional ε-amine side chain intact
