    Risk Management, Capital Structure and Lending at Banks

    We test how active management of bank credit risk exposure through the loan sales market affects capital structure, lending, profits, and risk. We find that banks that rebalance their C&I loan portfolio exposures by both buying and selling loans – that is, banks that use the loan sales market for risk management purposes rather than to alter their holdings of loans -- hold less capital than other banks; they also make more risky loans (loans to businesses) as a percentage of total assets than other banks. Holding size, leverage and lending activities constant, banks active in the loan sales market have lower risk and higher profits than other banks. We conclude that increasingly sophisticated risk management practices in banking are likely to improve the availability of bank credit but not to reduce bank risk.

    An artificial neural network application on nuclear charge radii

    The artificial neural networks (ANNs) have emerged with successful applications in nuclear physics as well as in many fields of science in recent years. In this paper, by using (ANNs), we have constructed a formula for the nuclear charge radii. Statistical modeling of nuclear charge radii by using ANNs has been seen as to be successful. Also, the charge radii, binding energies and two-neutron separation energies of Sn isotopes have been calculated by implementing of the new formula in Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) calculations. The results of the study shows that the new formula is useful for describing nuclear charge radii.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure

    During these last years, the economic activity centres are relatively well developed in Ivorian big cities. They have significantly moved from the countryside to the urban zones. Today, the focus of domestic activities is located in the urban zones and about 60 % of the population from that area lives from it. The category of actors working in the sector is essentially constituted of women. Coming from diverse backgrounds, they implement several types of activities (market gardens, low-lying ground for rice crops, cassava production and processing for “attieke”, cashew nuts processing into butter). Which allow them to better promote the social well-being, taking them out of that cycle of poverty and place the economies on the path to sustainable growth. Since many year, for not being left out, a group of women who form the Association “Chigata” in the city of Korhogo was part of this dynamic focused on the fight against poverty, by the extraction of Shea butter. However, the day-to-day practice of this activity is compromised by many difficulties: use of traditional and archaic tools, difficult exiting of products due to the absence of machinery and roads, the absence of farms, the absence of a reliable market, the absence of training and guidance. This situation threatens women and makes them even more vulnerable. The desire of the research was to analyse the strategies of women's work, the related obstacles and the appropriate ways to strengthen this sector. The study is in three parts. The first part underlines the methodology; the second one is about the processing steps of the cashew nuts into butter and the third one deals with the commercialization strategies and recommendations

    Modeling and classifying variable width riparian zones utilizing digital elevation models, flood height data, digital soil data and national wetlands inventory : a new approach for riparian zone delineation

    Riparian zones are dynamic, transitional ecosystems between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems with well defined vegetation and soil characteristics. Development of an all-encompassing definition for riparian ecotones, because of their high variability, is challenging. However, there are two primary factors that all riparian ecotones are dependent on: the watercourse and its associated floodplain. Previous approaches to riparian boundary delineation have utilized fixed width buffers, but this methodology has proven to be inadequate as it only takes the watercourse into consideration and ignores critical geomorphology, associated vegetation and soil characteristics. Our approach offers advantages over other previously used methods by utilizing: the geospatial modeling capabilities of ArcMap GIS; a better sampling technique along the water course that can distinguish the 50-year flood plain, which is the optimal hydrologic descriptor of riparian ecotones; the Soil Survey Database (SSURGO) and National Wetland Inventory (NWI) databases to distinguish contiguous areas beyond the 50-year plain; and land use/cover characteristics associated with the delineated riparian zones. The model utilizes spatial data readily available from Federal and State agencies and geospatial clearinghouses. An accuracy assessment was performed to assess the impact of varying the 50-year flood height, changing the DEM spatial resolution (1, 3, 5 and 10m), and positional inaccuracies with the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) streams layer on the boundary placement of the delineated variable width riparian ecotones area. The result of this study is a robust and automated GIS based model attached to ESRI ArcMap software to delineate and classify variable-width riparian ecotones

    In this paper, Dirac operator with some integral type nonlocal boundary conditions is studied. We show that the coefficients of the problem can be uniquely determined by a dense set of nodal points. Moreover, we give an algorithm for the reconstruction of some coefficients of the operator

Khan suggested eight dimensional e-learning framework which serves as a base to help institutions to plan, design, implement and evaluate their e-learning programs. This paper discusses whether e-learning systems at Avicenna Center in Erbil meet the eight dimensional e-learning frameworks. Also it presents the most critical success steps to develop and evaluate Avicenna center , for the purpose to spread the e-learning in all over Iraq.
