Oggi l'architettura appare come
We are convinced that the arguments surrounding the dissolution of place tend toward the
materialization of a city which continues to amass atopic architectures, architectures that
facilitate the spectacularism of their forms and where the spatial rupture of the city becomes
more discernible. On the other hand, the vindication of the architectural creative process as
anti-historical creates forms of rupture and discomfort, and empowers a new, merely
functionalist, vision. Today architecture is seen as subsidiary to other branches of knowledge,
and, despite its exuberant forms, it retains an illusory autonomy, confined by assumptions that
surpass and depreciate it. Contemporary architecture must reclaim the notion of perpetuity and
permanence, so as to create new memories and contribute to the maintenance of collective
references that solidify our current history’s forms and the forms of a growing city increasingly
difficult to identify. We are interested in the order that we can find by way of examples that
feature a ‘genomic’ sequence, a structure capable of establishing the continuity of facts that
throughout history have determined and configured the city in so many ways. By means of a dichotomous cause and effect process, we may also describe the contemporary city’s form by
clarifying the form of public spaces (their design and position – an operative grammar) and the
relation and articulation between public spaces (an order – an efficient syntax).Peer Reviewe
Online jobseeking platforms
Online jobseeking platforms are now widespread, but little research has been done so far on what drives them, what they are required for and what their success depends on, as well as how they influence the success of individual jobseekers. This dissertation includes a study on various aspects that potentially affect jobseeking success and pertain to online jobseeking platforms. This dissertation aims to investigate how the use of jobseeking platforms impacts the success of a job search, as well as how the success of that job search is affected by a site’s usability. These aspects were investigated through a jobseeking habits survey answered by 73 participants and analysed to draw conclusions on the sample and wider world. Due to the nature of the sample, a more qualitative approach was also taken, with individual respondents’ answers to an open-ended question also taken into account. The survey respondents were classified into three types: generalist users, specific users and youthful users, and further analysed to obtain a more accurate idea of their jobseeking habits and subsequent success. It was concluded that a higher educational level can be a strong precursor to job search success. Moreover, the use of jobseeking platforms does, in fact, impact the success of a job search, in this case positively.utilização de plataformas de procura de emprego "online" são uma prática corrente.
New Chalcone–Triazole Hybrids with Promising Antimicrobial Activity in Multidrug Resistance Strains
Resistance to antibiotics is an emerging problem worldwide, which leads to an increase in morbidity and mortality rates. Several mechanisms are attributed to bacterial resistance, overexpression of efflux pumps being one of the most prominent. As an attempt to develop new effective antimicrobial drugs, which could be able to act against resistant bacterial strains and considering the antimicrobial potential of flavonoids and triazolyl flavonoid derivatives, in particular chalcones, a small library of chalcone derivatives was synthesized and evaluated for its potential to act as antimicrobials and/or adjuvants in combination with antibiotics towards resistant bacteria. Although only compound 7 was able to act as antibacterial, compounds 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 9 revealed to be able to potentiate the activity of antibiotics in resistant bacteria. Moreover, five compounds (3, 5–8) demonstrated to be effective inhibitors of efflux pumps in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium SL1344, and four compounds (1, 3, 7, and 10) showed higher ability than reserpine to inhibit biofilm formation of resistant Staphylococcus aureus 272123. Together, our results showed the potential of these compounds regarding reversion of bacterial resistance
Key initiatives to successfully manage collaborative university-industry R&D: IC-HMI case study
This paper describes the results of a qualitative study to identify the key management initiatives in a successful university-industry (UI) collaborative funded program between the University of Minho (UMinho) and Bosch Car Multimedia Portugal (Bosch), named IC-HMI. The IC-HMI program embraced an overall investment of 54.7 M€ and involved around 500 people throughout the Program's duration (2015-2018). While the literature provides some advice on managing programs and projects, the specific context of UI R&D collaboration is being scarcely reported, demanding a strong research effort to produce effective guidelines. The IC-HMI is considered a successful program for several reasons, as evidenced by the decision of UMinho and Bosch partners to develop a subsequent R&D collaborative program from 2018 to 2021, doubling its investment. The success attained with the IC-HMI program could be somehow explained by key management initiatives adopted, such as the: creation of Program and Project Management Office, definition and communication of a Governance Model, creation of Project Charters, promotion of Alignment Stakeholders Workshops, Project Progress Meetings and creation of Project Transition Plans, among other key initiatives reported in this paper. This research is sponsored by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia FCT (SFRH/BPD/111033/2015), and

Sulfated small molecules targeting EBV in Burkitt lymphoma: from in silico screening to the evidence of in vitro effect on viral episomal DNA
Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) infects more than 90% of the
world population. Following primary infection, Epstein–
Barr virus persists in an asymptomatic latent state.
Occasionally, it may switch to lytic infection. Latent EBV
infection has been associated with several diseases, such
as Burkitt lymphoma (BL). To date, there are no available
drugs to target latent EBV, and the existing broad-spec trum antiviral drugs are mainly active against lytic viral
infection. Thus, using computational molecular docking,
a virtual screen of a library of small molecules, including
xanthones and flavonoids (described with potential for
antiviral activity against EBV), was carried out targeting
EBV proteins. The more interesting molecules were
selected for further computational analysis, and sub sequently, the compounds were tested in the Raji (BL) cell
line, to evaluate their activity against latent EBV. This work
identified three novel sulfated small molecules capable of
decreasing EBV levels in a BL. Therefore, the in silico
screening presents a good approach for the development
of new anti-EBV agents.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The MOVE.TE Falls Prevention and Management Program: lessons learnt in the Portuguese context
MOVE.TE is a non-profit participatory physiotherapy platform that aims at translating knowledge in the field of physiotherapy and developing freely available evidence-based physiotherapy programmes targeting the primary care services of the Portuguese National Health service. A group of volunteer academics and clinicians collaborated at different stages and time points to create the first ever falls prevention and management programme and guidance for Physiotherapy in primary care, in Portugal. This report describes this seven-step process. In spite of many challenges, this project constitutes an example of advocacy in physiotherapy for the promotion of better healthcare for older adults.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
