Searching for Elko dark matter spinors at the CERN LHC
The aim of this work is to explore the possibility to discover a fermionic
field with mass dimension one, the Elko field, in the Large Hadron Collider
(LHC). Due to its mass dimension, an Elko can only interact either with
Standard Model (SM) spinors and gauge fields at 1-loop order or at tree level
through a quartic interaction with the Higgs field. In this Higgs portal
scenario, the Elko is a viable candidate to a dark matter constituent which has
been shown to be compatible with relic abundance measurements from WMAP and
direct dark matter--nucleon searches. We propose a search strategy for this
dark matter candidate in the channel at
the TeV LHC. We show the LHC potential to discover the Elko
considering a triple Higgs-Elko coupling as small as after 1
pb of integrated luminosity. Some phenomenological consequences of this
new particle and its collider signatures are also discussed.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
Development of cognitive strategies with digital games in non-formal education
This paper presents a case study analyzing which learning cognitive strategies are employed by students who play digital games in both in-school and out-of-school learning contexts. As a case study, it falls within the qualitative research category. The researcher integrated themselves to the subjects' learning facility for data-gathering, following all recommended ethical protocols for research involving underage subjects. The following data collection instruments were used: research diary, questionnaire, and interviews, conducted with teenagers who play digital games during formal learning activities. Analysis involved data-crossing and checking our data against existing studies and theories, as well as a cartographic production. Data indicates that digital games enhance student usage of cognitive strategies and favor competencies and abilities-based learning over formal learning contents
Symmetry Constrained Two Higgs Doublet Models
We study Two-Higgs-Doublet Models (2HDM) where Abelian symmetries have been
introduced, leading to a drastic reduction in the number of free parameters in
the 2HDM. Our analysis is inspired in BGL models, where, as the result of a
symmetry of the Lagrangian, there are tree-level scalar mediated
Flavour-Changing-Neutral-Currents, with the flavour structure depending only on
the CKM matrix. A systematic analysis is done on the various possible schemes,
which are classified in different classes, depending on the way the extra
symmetries constrain the matrices of couplings defining the flavour structure
of the scalar mediated neutral currents. All the resulting flavour textures of
the Yukawa couplings are stable under renormalisation since they result from
symmetries imposed at the Lagrangian level. We also present a brief
phenomenological analysis of the most salient features of each class of
symmetry constrained 2HDM.Comment: 30 pages, 5 Table
In this work, a mathematical technique to accelerate the eigenvalue calculations, originally proposed for the Analytical Discrete Ordinates method (ADO), is applied to the coarse-mesh method Modified Spectral Deterministic (MSD), used in neutron shielding problems (fixed-source) in one-dimensional geometry. This technique consists in an arrangement of the neutron transport equation which leads to a reduced eigenvalue calculation on the intranodal analytical solution, where only the positive half of the eigenvalues and its respective eigenvectors are calculated, hence reducing the methods execution time. Precision and performance tests were performed in 2 model-problems, reducing around 80% of the execution time.
This article aims to analyze the development of irrigated agriculture in the Federal District. In recent decades, agriculture has undergone major changes, the green revolution of the decade of 1960/1970 engendered a practice rooted in technological and scientifi c base that allowed maximizing production and minimizing costs. The growing demand pressed agriculture, requiring the insertion techniques such as irrigation, now widely disseminated. In the Federal District irrigation has established itself in the production of the fi eld system since the 1990, through government incentives. The methodology was adopted literature review, data collection and surveys and censuses of offi cial agencies.O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar o desenvolvimento da agricultura irrigada no Distrito Federal.
