A comparative Digital Soil Mapping (DSM) study using a non-supervised clustering analysis and an expert knowledge based model - A case study from AhuachapĂĄn, El Salvador
DSM is the inference of spatial and temporal soil property variations using mathematical models based on quantitative relationships between environmental information and soil measurements. The quality of DSM information depends on the method and environmental covariates used for its estimations. We compared two DSM methods to predict soil properties such as Organic Matter âMOâ (%), Sand (%), Clay (%), pH (H2O), Phosphorus (mg/kg), Effective Cationic Exchange Capacity âCICEâ (cmol/L), Potassium (cmol/L) and Water Holding Capacity (mm/m) for the department of AhuachapĂĄn in El Salvador to support the activities of the Agriculture Landscape Restoration Initiative (ALRI) in the countr
Entwicklung von Strategien zur Regulierung des Drahtwurmbefalls (Agriotes spp. L.) im Ăkologischen Kartoffelanbau
Problemstellung/Ziele:

The game of co-creativity
Sie, R. L. L. (2009). The game of co-creativity. Presentation at the Open University of the Netherlands Professional communities PhD cluster. March, 17, 2009, Heerlen, The Netherlands. In co-creativity, research has thus far focused on the extension of the set of generated ideas. Though, it is argued that we should look into factors that influence the group process. We propose an approach that uses coalitional game theory as a means to aid the process of co-creativity. A short introduction to game theoretic concepts such as shapley's value and the nucleolus is provided. The work on this publication has been sponsored by the idSpace STREP that is funded by the European Commission's 7th Framework Programme. Safe use of chlorpyrifos for insect pest management in leaf mustard (Brassica juncea (L) Coss.)
Leaf or Chinese mustard (Brassica juncea L. Coss.) is one of the main vegetables consumed in Malaysia. Farmers widely use chlorpyrifos as active ingredients for insect pest control in leaf mustard crops, and repeated applications are a common practice. Thus, studies are needed to determine residue levels with respect to time or frequency of application to ensure residue levels at harvest are below the international MRL. An experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at the share farm in Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus to study leaf residue levels of the insecticide chlorpyrifos used to control insect pests in leaf mustard (Brassica juncea L. Coss.). There were three treatments including an untreated control in four replicates. Chlorpyrifos was applied at 0.46, 0.92 kg a.i./ha at 3 weeks after sowing. Leaf samples for residue analysis were harvested at 8, 14 and 20 days after treatment. Chlorpyrifos residue levels in the leaf samples were determined by HPLC (JASCO LC-2000 plus series), fitted with an Inertsil ODS-3 (5 ”m, 4 mmĂ50 mm length) column with PDA-wavelength detector. Insect damage assessment was determined at 13 and 18 days after treatment to evaluate effectiveness of the treatments. Insect damage was significantly higher in the control compared to insecticide treatments. Chlorpyrifos residue was not detected in all leaf samples at 8, 14 and 20 days after treatment. This suggests that a single application of chlorpyrifos at 3 weeks after planting did not pose any residue problems in leaves harvested after 4 weeks from planting, and thus were safe for consumption
Responsibility, Determinism and Freedom
This book shows why we can justify blaming people for their wrong actions even if free will turns out not to exist. Contrary to most contemporary thinking, we do this by focusing on the ordinary everyday wrongs each of us commits, not on the extra-ordinary, "moral monster"-like crimes and weak-willed actions of some. This enables us to justify our everyday practices without the need to deny that free will might be relevant to considerations about personal desert.Value inquiry book series, ISSN 0929-8436 ; vol. 166. The joint introduction of Platyarthrus schoblii (Isopoda: Oniscidea) and Lasius neglectus (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) into Hungary
The invasive garden ant Lasius neglectus VAN LOON, BOOMSMA and ANDRĂSFALVY, 1990 was found and described from Budapest, Hungary. Since then, 16 colonies of the species were located in the area. More localities could probably be detected by systematic screening throughout the country. The majority of the colonies can be found in Budapest and only a few sites are known outside the capital city (in the Botanical Garden of Debrecen and in Ărd and Tahi; the latter two are situated close to Budapest).
It is known that several arthropod groups have representatives of a myrmecophilous character that are liv-
ing in ant nests on a voluntary or obligatory basis (e.g., beetles, springtails, mites, crickets, and woodlice). No such phenomenon was published in relation to invertebrates accompanying L. neglectus before. In 2001, we detected the first commensalist isopod in a colony in Budatétény. We identified the crustacean arthropod as Platyarthrus schoblii BUDDE-LUND, 1885 which is a new species in Hungary. It was known only in the Mediterranean region before. After a systematic search by hand sorting, we were able to prove
the presence of this isopod species in 60 % of the studied L. neglectus populations.
The other well-established representative of the myrmecophilous genus Platyarthrus in Hungary is P.
hoffmannseggii BRANDT, 1833, which was not found to co-occur with L. neglectus. Similarly, P. schoblii has not yet been found with other ant species. Nevertheless we presume cross-adoption in each case as it happened, e.g., in Spain between the native P. schoblii and the introduced and invasive ant Linepithema humile (MAYR, 1868). The repeated co-occurrence of P. schoblii and L. neglectus could underline the
hypothesis concerning the anthropogenic distribution of both species by potted ornamental plants.
Die invasive Gartenameise Lasius neglectus VAN LOON, BOOMSMA & ANDRĂSFALVY, 1990 wurde aus Budapest, Ungarn, beschrieben. Seither wurden hier 16 Kolonien der Art gefunden. Mehr Fundorte könnten wahrscheinlich durch systematisches Suchen in ganz Ungarn gefunden werden. Ausserhalb von Budapest sind nur wenige Vorkommen bekannt (im Botanischen Garten in Debrecen sowie in Ărd und Tahi;
