    Hostility Modifies the Association between TV Viewing and Cardiometabolic Risk

    Background. It was hypothesized that television viewing is predictive of cardiometabolic risk. Moreover, people with hostile personality type may be more susceptible to TV-induced negative emotions and harmful health habits which increase occurrence of cardiometabolic risk. Purpose. The prospective association of TV viewing on cardiometabolic risk was examined along with whether hostile personality trait was a modifier. Methods. A total of 3,269 Black and White participants in the coronary artery risk development in young adults (CARDIA) study were assessed from age 23 to age 35. A cross-lagged panel model at exam years 5, 10, 15, and 20, covering 15 years, was used to test whether hours of daily TV viewing predicted cardiometabolic risk, controlling confounding variables. Multiple group analysis of additional cross-lagged panel models stratified by high and low levels of hostility was used to evaluate whether the association was modified by the hostile personality trait. Results. The cross-lagged association of TV viewing at years 5 and 15 on clustered cardiometabolic risk score at years 10 and 20 was significant (B=0.058 and 0.051), but not at 10 to 15 years. This association was significant for those with high hostility (B=0.068 for exam years 5 to 10 and 0.057 for exam years 15 to 20) but not low hostility. Conclusion. These findings indicate that TV viewing is positively associated with cardiometabolic risk. Further, they indicate that hostility might be a modifier for the association between TV viewing and cardiometabolic risk

    Fast and low-cost synthesis of MoS2 nanostructures on paper substrates for near-infrared photodetectors

    Recent advances in the production and development of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDs) allow applications of these materials, with a structure similar to that of graphene, in a series of devices as promising technologies for optoelectronic applications. In this work, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanostructures were grown directly on paper substrates through a microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis. The synthesized samples were subjected to morphological, structural, and optical analysis, using techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman. The variation of synthesis parameters, as temperature and synthesis time, allowed the manipulation of these nanostructures during the growth process, with alteration of the metallic (1T) and semiconductor (2H) phases. By using this synthesis method, two-dimensional MoS2 nanostructures were directly grown on paper substrates. The MoS2 nanostructures were used as the active layer, to produce low-cost near-infrared photodetectors. The set of results indicates that the interdigital MoS2 photodetector with the best characteristics (responsivity of 290 mA/W, detectivity of 1.8 × 109 Jones and external quantum efficiency of 37%) was obtained using photoactive MoS2 nanosheets synthesized at 200◩C for 120 min.publishersversionpublishe

    Enxaqueca piora o sofrimento do paciente que tem esclerose mĂșltipla (EM). ID-migraine Ă© uma ferramenta Ăștil para seleção de pacientes com enxaqueca e Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) Ă© um questionĂĄrio que avalia o impacto da doença. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a presença e impacto de enxaqueca em pacientes com EM. MĂ©todos: Pacientes diagnosticados com EM e tratados em clĂ­nicas especializadas foram convidados a responder um questionĂĄrio online se tambĂ©m apresentassem cefaleia. Resultados: O estudo incluiu 746 participantes com cefaleia e EM que preencheram completamente as respostas. Foram 625 mulheres e 121 homens, sendo 69% dos pacientes com idade entre 20 e 40 anos. Enxaqueca foi identificada em 404 pacientes (54,1%) e moderado a grave impacto da doença foi observado em 68,3% dos casos. ConclusĂŁo: Enxaqueca Ă© uma cefaleia primĂĄria frequente e incapacitante relatada por pacientes com EM.Migraine adds to the burden of patients suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS). The ID-migraine is a useful tool for screening migraine, and the Migraine Disability Assessment questionnaire can evaluate disease burden. The aim of the present study was to assess the presence and burden of migraine in patients with MS. Methods: Patients diagnosed with MS attending specialized MS units were invited to answer an online survey if they also experienced headache. Results: The study included 746 complete responses from patients with MS and headache. There were 625 women and 121 men, and 69% of all the patients were aged between 20 and 40 years. Migraine was identified in 404 patients (54.1%) and a moderate-to-high burden of disease was observed in 68.3% of the patients. Conclusion: Migraine is a frequent and disabling type of primary headache reported by patients with MS

These genetic markers are especially useful in inferring the likely ancestral origin of an individual or estimating the apportionment of ancestry components in admixed individuals or populations. The study of AIMs is of great interest in clinical genetics research, particularly to detect and correct for population substructure effects in case-control association studies, but also in population and forensic genetics studies

    Data report: evaluation of shipboard magnetostratigraphy by alternating field demagnetization of discrete samples, Expedition 361, Site U1475

    The paleomagnetic shipboard data of International Ocean Discovery Program Site U1475, with a record reaching back to approximately 7 Ma, allowed for the identification of major magnetic polarity chrons and subchrons back to ~3.5 Ma. However, the natural remanent magnetization (NRM) was very weak, and transitional intervals with unclear polarity were as thick as several meters. The midpoints of these transitional intervals were reported in the shipboard results without decimal places because of the poor data quality. To evaluate and possibly refine the shipboard magnetostratigraphy, subsampling was performed across the polarity transitions. Detailed alternating field (AF) demagnetization experiments were conducted on these discrete samples and were complemented by anhysteretic remanent magnetization acquisition measurements and subsequent demagnetization. AF demagnetization data of NRM were analyzed using anchored principal component analysis (PCA) to obtain the characteristic remanent magnetization. These PCA results generally confirm the smoothed signal across polarity transitions at Site U1475. However, the midpoint depths of the top of the Keana Subchron, the Gauss-Matuyama and Matuyama-Brunhes boundaries, and the base of the Olduvai Subchron were adjusted
