    Improving Students\u27 Achievement in Writing Descriptive Text Through Collaborative Writing

    The main objective of this study is to know how effective the use of Collaborative Writing in teaching writing descriptive texts is. So this final project mainly aims at determining the effectiveness of using Collaborative Writing in teaching writing descriptive texts. This study was conducted under the consideration that the students often get difficulties in describing something. In order to achieve the objective of the study, the writer designed an action research. The population of this study was the second grade students of SMP Negeri 29 Medan. The number of the subjects of this study was 37 students. During the research, the students becoming the subjects were taught by using Collaborative Writing in teaching writing descriptive texts. There were two cycles in this action research. Each cycle consisted of four phases. Before giving treatments in those two cycles, the students were given pre-test. After each treatment in each cycle, the students were tested. And the last, they were given post-test and questionnaire. The main purpose of conducting it was to find out the validity and the reliability of the test as instrument. The result of this research showed that the students\u27 ability in writing descriptive texts improved after a series of treatments given in the cycles. It can be seen by comparing the means of their tests. The mean score for the pre-test was 53.92, the mean score for test 1 was 70.27, while the mean score for the post-test was 80.08. It is clear that after applying Collaborative Writing in each treatment, the mean of each test improves and gets better. The use of Collaborative Writing technique is one of the ways to make students interest in studying English especially writing descriptive text

    Hubungan karakteristik, perilaku, dan kesadaran halal penjamah makanan dengan keamanan pangan pada Pedagang Kaki Lima (PKL) di Kota Probolinggo

    Latar Belakang: Makanan yang terkontaminasi oleh berbagai cemaran dapat menyebabkan terjadinya foodborne illness. Foodborne illness terjadi karena keamanan pangan dalam proses pengolahan yang tidak baik. Keamanan pangan dipengaruhi oleh karakteristik, perilaku, dan kesadaran halal penjamah makanan. Tujuan: Mengetahui hubungan antara karakteristik, perilaku, dan kesadaran halal penjamah makan dengan keamanan pangan pada PKL di Kota Probolinggo. Metode Penelitian: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dengan desain penelitian cross sectional yang dilakukan di Kota Probolinggo. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu sebanyak 40 responden yang diambil dengan menggunakan metode cluster random sampling. Proses pengambilan data dalam penelitian ini melalui pengisian kuesioner oleh responden, wawancara, dan observasi langsung. Kuesioner yang diisi oleh responden sebelumnya telah dilakukan uji validitas dan reliabilitas. Data dianalisis univariat dan analisis bivariat mengunakan SPSS. Hasil: Mayoritas penjamah makanan pada PKL di Kota Probolinggo berusia prima (62.5%), berjenis kelamin perempuan (57.5%), memiliki tingkat pendidikan yang tinggi (62.5%), telah bekerja lama (52.5%), tidak memiliki pengalaman pelatihan (77.5%), berperilaku baik (67.5%), memiliki kesadaran halal yang baik (62.5%), dan memiliki nilai skor keamanan pangan yang rawan, namun aman untuk dikonsumsi (65%). Berdasarkan hasil uji korelasi kruskal wallis menyatakan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara umur dengan perilaku (p=0.042). Berdasarkan uji korelasi fisher menyatakan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara tingkat pendidikan dengan perilaku (p=0.006). Berdasarkan uji korelasi mann whitney menyatakan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara perilaku (p=0.002) dan kesadaran halal (p=0.008) dengan keamanan pangan. Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara umur dengan perilaku penjamah makanan. Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara tingkat pendidikan dengan perilaku penjamah makanan. Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara perilaku penjamah makanan dengan keamanan pangan. Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kesadaran halal penjamah makanan dengan keamanan pangan. ABSTRACT Background: Food contaminated by various contaminants can cause foodborne illness. Foodborne illness occurs due to poor food safety in the processing process. Food safety is influenced by the characteristics, behavior, and halal awareness of food handlers. Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze correlation of characteristics, behavior, and halal awareness of food handlers with food safety in PKL Probolinggo City Method: This research is a cross sectional design was taken at Probolinggo City. The sample used in this study were 40 respondens who were taken using the cluster random sampling method. The process of collecting data was through filling out questionnaires by respondents, interviews, and observation. The questionnaire that was filled out by the respondents had previously been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed by univariate and bivariate analysis using SPSS. Result: The majority of food handlers at PKL in Probolinggo City are prime age (62.5%), female (57.5%), have a high level of education (62.5%), have worked for a long time (52.5%), don’t have training experience (77.5%), well behaved (67.5%), have good halal awareness (62.5%), and has a food safety score that is vulnerable, but safe for consumption (65%). Based on the results of the Kruskal Wallis correlation test, it was stated that there was a significant relationship between age and behavior (p = 0.042). Based on the Fisher correlation test, it was stated that there was a significant relationship between the level of education and behavior (p = 0.006). Based on the Mann Whitney correlation test, it was stated that there was a significant relationship between behavior (p=0.002) and halal awareness (p=0.008) with food safety. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between age with food handler behavior. There is a significant relationship between education level with food handler behavior. There is a significant relationship between the behavior food handlers with food safety. There is a significant relationship between the awareness of halal food handlers with food safety

    Kondisi Sarana Sanitasi Industri Rumah Tangga Pangan Di Kecamatan Sumbawa

    Pemerintah berkewajiban untuk meningkatkan daya saing Industri Rumah Tangga (IRT) atau yang dikenal dengan Industri Rumah Tangga Pangan (IRTP). Melalui Cara Produksi Pangan yang Baik (CPPB) industri pangan dapat menghasilkan pangan yang bermutu, layak dikonsumsi dan aman bagi kesehatan. Untuk mengevaluasi sarana produksi pangan Industri Rumah Tanggan (IRT) tepung dan olahannya di Kecamatan Sumbawa. Jenis Penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian deskriptif dengan populasi yang digunakan sebanyak 30 IRTP di wilayah Kecamatan Sumbawa. Instrument yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah formulir yang merujuk pada tata cara pemeriksaan sarana produksi pangan industri rumah tangga dari BPOM. Hasil penelitian ketidaksesuaian kondisi lokasi dan lingkungan produksi IRTP di tingkat serius (SE) 10 %, ketidaksesuain kondisi bangunan dan fasilitas produksi IRTP di tingkat serius (SE) 36.7 % dan 33.3 %, ketidaksesuain kondisi peralatan produksi IRTP di tingkat serius (SE) 0.07 %. Ketidaksesuain kondisi.Suplai air dan sarana penyedian air IRTP di tingkat serius (SE) 6.7 %, ketidaksesuain kondisi fasilitas kegiatan hygiene dan sanitasi IRTP di tingkat kritis (KR) 0.87 %, di tingkat serius (SE) 0.83 % dan 0.13 %, ketidaksesuain kondisi fasilitas kegiatan hygiene dan sanitasi IRTP di tingkat kritis (KR) 0.87 %, di tingkat serius (SE) 0.1 %.Perlu adanya pengawasan yang lebih intensif terhadap IRTP tepung dan hasil olahannya di Kecamatan Sumbawa oleh Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten Sumbawa khususnya kepada IRTP dengan tingkat kritis (KR) untuk meninjau ulang kepada IRTP yang melanggar standar kesehatan yang ditetapkan pemerintah untuk dicabut ijin edarnya atau tidak dikeluarkan ijin edar P-IRT untuk menjamin standar mutu kesehatan produksi pangan untuk dapat diperdagangkan sesuai dengan standar kesehatan yang ditentukan oleh pemerintah.     THE ROLE OF JAVANESE CULTURE IN CHARACTER BUILDING AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

    Nowadays, character education becomes a major concern in Indonesia. Character development has been done by various strategy, but the results is yet to be seen. Character development should beginin elementary school in order that the children's charactercould formed early so that it could be developed until they are mature. One of the efforts of character building is integrating the local wisdom in learning. One of them is the Javanese culture. Javanese culture has a variety of rules called the "unggah-ungguh" that always give good models to the public community, especially to the Javanese. Along with the times, the Javanese culture that upholds ethics began to degraded and replaced by foreign cultures that came later. The parents’ roles in instilling the Javanese culture to their children also decreased gradually. This paper will examine the Javanese culture’s roles toward the character building in elementary schools’ students. Descriptive method supported by a depth review of the literature and the previous studies is used in this paper as a method. Based on the results of these reviews, we obtain some information about the types and mechanisms of Javanese culture in character building of students, especially elementary school students
