Effects of dietary L-Citrulline supplementation on growth performance, meat quality, and fecal microbial composition in finishing pigs

Gut microbiota play an important role in the gut ecology and development of pigs, which is always regulated by nutrients. This study investigated the effect of L-Citrulline on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and its potential regulatory mechanism. The results showed that 1% dietary L-Citrulline supplementation for 52 days significantly increased final weight, liveweight gain, carcass weight, and average backfat and markedly decreased drip loss (p < 0.05) of finishing pigs compared with the control group. Microbial analysis of fecal samples revealed a marked increase in α-diversity and significantly altered composition of gut microbiota in finishing pigs in response to L-Citrulline. In particular, these altered gut microbiota at the phylum and genus level may be mainly involved in the metabolic process of carbohydrate, energy, and amino acid, and exhibited a significant association with final weight, carcass weight, and backfat thickness. Taken together, our data revealed the potential role of L-Citrulline in the modulation of growth performance, carcass characteristics, and the meat quality of finishing pigs, which is most likely associated with gut microbiota

Single-Impact Failure of Multi-Layered Automotive Coatings: A Finite Element-Based Study

    No full text
Automotive coatings are a multi-layered polymer composite structure whose impact resistance is closely related to the appearance and safety of a vehicle. Since experimental methods are of high cost and poor repeatability, in our work, a finite element model is developed for the single-impact failure of automotive coatings. In this model, a multi-mechanism damage model and a large deformation cohesive zone model are employed to account for the polymer-ply and interlaminar failures of the coating, and some rate-dependent material models are adopted to capture the effect of impact velocity. The simulated results indicate that the proposed model can reproduce the failure patterns of automotive coatings well. In addition, the impact failure mechanisms of the coating are revealed. Numerical findings show that both brittle and ductile failures are found in the coating and there are three stages for the propagation of the delamination crack. Finally, we numerically investigate the effects of primer mechanical properties, i.e., Young’s modulus, yield strength, and re-hardening modulus, on the impact resistance of automotive coatings. Our work is helpful to the design of coating, which can improve the impact resistance of automotive coatings

Recent Advances in W-Containing Refractory High-Entropy Alloys—An Overview

    No full text
During the past decade, refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEA) have attracted great attention of scientists, engineers and scholars due to their excellent mechanical and functional properties. The W-containing RHEAs are favored by researchers because of their great application potential in aerospace, marine and nuclear equipment and other high-temperature, corrosive and irradiated fields. In this review, more than 150 W-containing RHEAs are summarized and compared. The preparation techniques, microstructure and mechanical properties of the W-containing RHEAs are systematically outlined. In addition, the functional properties of W-containing RHEAs, such as oxidation, corrosion, irradiation and wear resistance have been elaborated and analyzed. Finally, the key issues faced by the development of W-containing RHEAs in terms of design and fabrication techniques, strengthening and deformation mechanisms, and potential functional applications are proposed and discussed. Future directions for the investigation and application of W-containing RHEAs are also suggested. The present work provides useful guidance for the development, processing and application of W-containing RHEAs and the RHEA components
