ABSTRACT The present study aimed to determine the effects of educational programs based on measurement of biochemical parameters among the patients with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus in Shiraz, Fars Province, Iran. This study was conducted on 200 patients with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (Type I). The participants were randomly divided into three experimental groups; i.e., nutrition education, insulin injection training, and both nutrition education and insulin injection training, and one non-trained control group. At two stages (before the study and after 12 weeks), blood samples were taken from the participants and investigated for Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C). HbA1C and FBS levels improved significantly among the experimental groups compared to the control group. Using educational programs is an effective method for reducing FBS and HbA1C levels and preventing the complication of diabetes in diabetic patients

Mentha pulegium L. is one of the Mentha (Labiatae) species that is grown in many different parts of the earth including northern Iran. The total ethanolic extract of the aerial parts of this plant is used in this work to investigate on the possible cytotoxicity on two different cell lines. Human lung carcinoma cells (A549) and human breast cancer (MCF7), have been used to show the clonogenic count of cells, as well as their cell cycle phases progression pattern after the exposure to the different concentrations of this extract. The cytotoxicity of the total extract of Mentha pulegium L. is 59 ± 1.73 μg/ml for the MCF7, and 48.86 ± 2.5 μg/ml for the A549 cell lines, respectively. Flow cytometry analysis have shown two different adventures for these cell lines after 24 hours exposure to this extract. While the MCF7 cells presented a dose-dependent arrest at the G2/M phase of the cell cycle, the A549 cells are more intended to accumulate in the so-called G0 resting phase after the exposure to this extract. These promising initial results might bring hope for the introduction of a tissue discriminating anticancer agent in future

Object and Action Naming: A Study on Persian-Speaking Children

    No full text
Objectives: Nouns and verbs are the central conceptual linguistic units of language acquisition in all human languages. While the noun-bias hypothesis claims that nouns have a privilege in children’s lexical development across languages, studies on Mandarin and Korean and other languages have challenged this view. More recent cross-linguistic naming studies on children in German, Turkish, English and Korean demonstrate that all languages, including Korean show a noun advantage however the degree of this discrepancy differs between languages. The aim of this study wasto look at object and action naming in normal Persian children as a measure of conceptual developmentin preschool children and its possible use for screening and therapeutic procedures. Methods: In this analytical study, noun bias and processing dissociation of object and action naming in 64 three to six year old healthy monolingual Persian-speaking children was investigated. A black and white picture naming task, consisting of 36 nouns (natural and man-made), and 36 verbs (transitive and intransitive) was designed using DMDX software to measure response accuracy and reaction time of the subjects. Results: The results indicate a significant noun advantage with regard to accuracy and naming latencies. The results also reveal that transitive verbs are named more accurately than intransitive ones in Persianspeaking children. Also, the data indicate that accuracy of object and action namingimprove with age (P=0.000). Discussion: Based on the resultswe recommended that a standardized Persian object and action naming battery be used. Such a tool would have the potential of screening lexical development delay and possible noun-verb performance gap in preschool children

Background & Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between personality traits and coping strategies in the alexithymia prediction of chronic obstructive pulmonary patients referred to Valiasr Hospital in Fasa, Iran. Materials & Methods: The statistical population of this study included all patients referring to the specialized clinic of Vali Asr Hospital in Fasa, which were selected by random sampling method of 180 people based on Cochran sample size formula. In this study, three Alexey Times Toronto Questionnaires (FTAS-20), Neo-Personality Traits Questionnaire (NEO-IP-R), and Lazarus and Folkman Coping Strategies were used, Data were analyzed using SPSS software and correlation method and stepwise regression analysis were used. Results: The results showed that there was a significant correlation between neuroticism, extroversion and agreeableness personality traits and emotional coping strategies(P =0.000). However, no significant relationship was found between personality trait openness and conscientiousness and coping strategies. Also, the excitement style (P = 0.745; Beta = 0.745), extroversion (P = 0.331, Beta = 0.300), neuroticism (P =.0000 Beta =.288) and agreement P = 0.098 Beta =.098) can predict Alexithymia in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). But age, gender, and education were not good predictors of the Alexei time in Copd patients. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the personality factors of neuroticism, extraversion and consensus-seeking can predict the changes in Alexis time in both positive and negative directions, and the anti-emotional coping style is also negatively predicted by Alexei Time

The visual processing disorder is broadly observed among individuals with autism. This study was conducted to develop an integrated rehabilitation program based on vibroacoustics and virtual reality and to assess its effectiveness on the visual processing of autistic children. This experimental case report was conducted using an Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC) design on 5 children with autism referred to Zehnara Rehabilitation Clinic in the second half months of 2021. First, the integrated program was implemented for ten 30-minute sessions on 2 subjects randomly selected from among the samples. After determining the program validity, 3 more subjects were entered into the study. The sensory profile questionnaire-2 was used. The questionnaires were filled out at the baseline stage, at the end of each intervention session, and at the one-month follow-up stage. The visual analysis, the percentage of recovery, the percentage of non-overlapping data (PND), and the percentage of overlapping data (POD) were used for data analysis. The implemented intervention was evaluated to be effective for all five subjects so that for Subjects No. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, the PND rates were obtained to be 90%, 90%, 70%, 100%, and 90%, respectively. The results of this study demonstrated that the integrated sensory rehabilitation program could be used to improve the visual processing of children with autism
