Manufacturing defects are the major concern of all manufacturing industries. These defects occur due to poor material quality or lack of skilled labour. This paper focuses upon one such operation that was dependent on the skills of the operator which was deskilled by one of the successful devices in lean production which is used to eliminate waste caused by errors i.e ‘mistake-proofing' or ‘Poka-yoke'. The use of Poka Yoke in the Ultra SD Cartridge assembly operation eliminated the requirement of skilled operator. This was effectively done by introducing a new locating fixture on the assembly line

Carbon Nanotubes Based Porous Framework for Filtration Applications Using Industrial Grinding Waste

    Get PDF
Forging, milling, turning, grinding and shaping etc. are the various industrial manufacturing processes which generate the metal waste. Grinding is extensively used in the finishing operation. The waste generated contains significant impurities apart from the metal particles. Due to these significant impurities, it becomes difficult to process and gets usually dumped in the landfills which create environmental problems. Therefore, it becomes essential to reuse metal waste to create value added products. Powder injection molding process is used for producing the porous metal matrix framework. This paper discusses the presented design of the porous framework to be used for the liquid filter application. Different parameters are optimized to obtain the better strength framework with variable porosity. Carbon nanotubes are used as reinforcing materials to enhance the strength of the metal matrix framework

Searching and fixating: scale-invariance vs. characteristic timescales in attentional processes

In an experiment involving semantic search, the visual movements of sample populations subjected to visual and aural input were tracked in a taskless paradigm. The probability distributions of saccades and fixations were obtained and analyzed. Scale-invariance was observed in the saccadic distributions, while the fixation distributions revealed the presence of a characteristic (attentional) time scale for literate subjects. A detailed analysis of our results suggests that saccadic eye motions are an example of Levy, rather than Brownian, dynamics.Comment: Accepted to Europhysics Letters (2011

Background: Adverse Drug Reactions(ADRs) are required to monitored in post marketing phase for unstudied ADR or beneficial effect which were not evident in controlled study design, but ADRs are usually under reported due to misbelieves or ignorance of health care worker. There is increasing numbers of adverse drug reaction monitoring centers in India affiliated to governing council but are in primitive phase. Also, there is lack of knowledge and attitude towards necessity for proper reporting of ADR, understanding of terminologies. Hence present study was undertaken to assess out of educational intervention in the form of simulated ADR workshop. Methods: Hundred nursing staff of JNMC were trained through Simulation Workshop i.e. initial knowledge as assessed before intervention, followed by explanations of every terminology essential for quality reporting of ADR. Ideal ADR reports were provided for study and ADR scenario was given for reporting of ADR. Deficiencies in reported ADR explained to participants. Post intervention knowledge and reporting was assessed. Deficiencies in actual ADR were pursued for three months. Results: There was statistically significant improvement observed in knowledge (p <0.01) and corresponding, proportionate quality parameters of ADRs as suggested by Z test. Conclusions: Educational intervention through simulated ADR and understanding about significance of ADR reporting’s and related terminologies improves quality as well as numbers of ADR reporting

Temperature dependent optical studies of Ti1x_{1-x}Cox_xO2_2

We present the results of Raman and photoluminescence (PL) studies on epitaxial anatase phase Ti1x_{1-x}Cox_xO2_2 films for xx = 0-0.07, grown by pulsed laser deposition. The low doped system (xx=0.01 and 0.02) shows a Curie temperature of ~700 K in the as-grown state. The Raman spectra from the doped and undoped films confirm their anatase phase. The photoluminescence spectrum is characterized by a broad emission from self-trapped excitons (STE) at 2.3 eV at temperatures below 120 K. This peak is characteristic of the anatase-phase TiO2_2 and shows a small blueshift with increasing doping concentration. In addition to the emission from STE, the Co-doped samples show two emission lines at 2.77 eV and 2.94 eV that are absent in the undoped film indicative of a spin-flip energy.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

TRIM32 regulates mitochondrial mediated ROS levels and sensitizes the oxidative stress induced cell death

Emerging evidence suggests that ubiquitin mediated post translational modification is a critical regulatory process involved in diverse cellular pathways including cell death. During ubiquitination, E3 ligases recognize target proteins and determine the topology of ubiquitin chains. Recruitment of E3 ligases to targets proteins under stress conditions including oxidative stress and their implication in cell death have not been systemically explored. In the present study, we characterized the role of TRIM32 as an E3 ligase in regulation of oxidative stress induced cell death. TRIM32 is ubiquitously expressed in cell lines of different origin and form cytoplasmic speckle like structures that transiently interact with mitochondria under oxidative stress conditions. The ectopic expression of TRIM32 sensitizes cell death induced by oxidative stress whereas TRIM32 knockdown shows a protective effect. The turnover of TRIM32 is enhanced during oxidative stress and its expression induces ROS generation, loss of mitochondrial transmembrane potential and decrease in complex-I activity. The pro-apoptotic effect was rescued by pan-caspase inhibitor or antioxidant treatment. E3 ligase activity of TRIM32 is essential for oxidative stress induced apoptotic cell death. Furthermore, TRIM32 decreases X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) level and overexpression of XIAP rescued cells from TRIM32 mediated oxidative stress and cell death. Overall, the results of this study provide the first evidence supporting the role of TRIM32 in regulating oxidative stress induced cell death, which has implications in numerous pathological conditions including cancer and neurodegeneration

The prolonged residence of drug formulation in the nasal cavity is of utmost importance for intranasal drug delivery. The objective of the present investigation was to develop a mucoadhesive in situ gel with reduced nasal mucocilliary clearance in order to improve the bioavailability of the antiemetic drug, metoclopramide hydrochloride. The in situ gelation upon contact with nasal mucosa was conferred via the use of the thermogelling Pluronic flake 127 (18%). Mucoadhesion was modulated via the use of hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), sodium carboxy methyl cellulose (Na CMC) and sodium alginate (Na-alginate) whereas drug release was modified by varying concentrations of polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG 6000). The results revealed that the different mucoadhesives increased the gel viscosity but reduced its sol gel transition temperatures. The increase in viscosity was highest in formulations with Na-alginate and lowest in formulations with HPMC. PEG 6000 significantly decreased mucoadhesive strength of formula containing 0.3% HPMC (776.6 ± 19.55 to 713.6 ± 5.03), 0.2% Na CMC (656 ± 11.13 to 575 ± 9.07) and 0.2% Na-alginate (659 ± 11.13 to 618.3 ± 9.45) whereas the gelation temperature increased by 3 to 4 °C. 100% of drug diffusion was found at four hours for formulation F5, F9, and F12. Formulation F5 showed maximum permeability (0.00949 ± 0.00021 mg.cm/min) than other formulation containing PEG6000. This study concluded the potential use of mucoadhesive in situ nasal gel in terms of ease of administration, accuracy of dosing, prolonged nasal residence and improved nasal bioavailability.Colegio de Farmacéuticos de la Provincia de Buenos Aire

Improving Quality of Watermarked Medical Images Using Symmetric Dilated Convolution Neural Networks, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2023, nr 2

Rapid development of online medical technologies raises questions about the security of the patient’s medical data. When patient records are encrypted and labeled with a watermark, they may be exchanged securely online. In order to avoid geometrical attacks aiming to steal the information, image quality must be maintained and patient data must be appropriately extracted from the encoded image. To ensure that watermarked images are more resistant to attacks (e.g. additive noise or geometric attacks), different watermarking methods have been invented in the past. Additive noise causes visual distortion and render the potentially harmful diseases more difficult to diagnose and analyze. Consequently, denoising is an important pre-processing method for obtaining superior outcomes in terms of clarity and noise reduction and allows to improve the quality of damaged medical images. Therefore, various publications have been studied to understand the denoising methods used to improve image quality. The findings indicate that deep learning and neural networks have recently contributed considerably to the advancement of image processing techniques. Consequently, a system has been created that makes use of machine learning to enhance the quality of damaged images and to facilitate the process of identifying specific diseases. Images, damaged in the course of an assault, are denoised using the suggested technique relying on a symmetric dilated convolution neural network. This improves the system’s resilience and establishes a secure environment for the exchange of data while maintaining secrecy
