Two-electron bond-orbital model, 2
The two-electron bond-orbital model of tetrahedrally-coordinated solids is generalized and its application extended. All intrabond matrix elements entering the formalism are explicitly retained, including the direct overlap S between the anion and cation sp3 hybrid wavefunctions. Complete analytic results are obtained for the six two-electron eigenvalues and eigenstates of the anion-cation bond in terms of S, one-electron parameters V2 and V3, and two-electron correlation parameters V4, V5 and V6. Refined formulas for the dielectric constant and the nuclear exchange and pseudodipolar coefficients, as well as new expressions for the valence electron density, polarity of the bond and the cohesive energy, are then derived. The theory gives a good account of the experimentally observed trends in all properties considered and approximate quantitative agreement is achieved for the pseudodipolar coefficient
SET based experiments for HTSC materials: II
The cuprates seem to exhibit statistics, dimensionality and phase transitions
in novel ways. The nature of excitations
[i.e. quasiparticle or collective], spin-charge separation, stripes [static
and dynamics], inhomogeneities, psuedogap, effect of impurity dopings [e.g. Zn,
Ni] and any other phenomenon in these materials must be consistently
understood. In this note we further discuss our original suggestion of using
Single Electron Tunneling Transistor
[SET] based experiments to understand the role of charge dynamics in these
systems. Assuming that SET operates as an efficient charge detection system we
can expect to understand the underlying physics of charge transport and charge
fluctuations in these materials for a range of doping. Experiments such as
these can be classed in a general sense as mesoscopic and nano characterization
of cuprates and related materials. In principle such experiments can show if
electron is fractionalized in cuprates as indicated by ARPES data. In contrast
to flux trapping experiments SET based experiments are more direct in providing
evidence about spin-charge separation. In addition a detailed picture of nano

A Supersymmetric Model with Dirac Neutrino Masses
New models have recently been proposed in which a second Higgs doublet
couples only to the lepton doublets and right-handed neutrinos, yielding Dirac
neutrino masses. The vacuum value of this second "nu-Higgs" doublet is made
very small by means of a very softly-broken or U(1) symmetry. The latter
is technically natural and avoids fine-tuning and very light scalars. We
consider a supersymmetric version of this model, in which two additional
doublets are added to the MSSM. If kinematically allowed, the decay of the
heavy MSSM scalar into charged nu-Higgs scalars will yield dilepton events
which can be separated from the W-pair background. In addition, the
nu-Higgsinos can lead to very dramatic tetralepton, pentalepton and hexalepton
events which have negligible background and can be detected at the LHC and the

Do changes in drinking motives mediate the relation between personality change and maturing out of problem drinking?
Recent research has indicated that developmental changes in the personality traits of neuroticism and impulsivity correlate with changes in problem drinking during emerging and young adulthood. However, it remains unclear what potential mechanisms, or mediators, could account for these associations. Drinking motives, particularly drinking to regulate negative affect (drinking to cope) and to get “high” or “drunk” (drinking for enhancement) have been posited to mediate the relationship between personality and drinking problems. Recent work indicates changes in drinking motives parallel changes in alcohol involvement from adolescence to young adulthood. The current study examined changes in drinking motives (i.e., coping and enhancement) as potential mediators of the relation between changes in personality (impulsivity and neuroticism) with changes in alcohol problems in emerging and young adulthood. Analyses were based on data collected from a cohort of college students (N=489) at varying risk for AUDs from ages 18–35. Parallel process latent growth modeling indicated that change in coping (but not enhancement) motives specifically mediated the relation between changes in neuroticism and alcohol problems as well as the relation between changes in impulsivity and alcohol problems. Findings suggest that change in coping motives is an important mechanism in the relation between personality change and the “maturing out” of problematic alcohol involvement
The Supersymmetric Leptophilic Higgs Model
In the leptophilic model, one Higgs doublet couples to quarks and another
couples to leptons. We study the supersymmetric version of this model,
concentrating on the tightly constrained Higgs sector, which has four doublets.
Constraints from perturbativity, unitarity, and LEP bounds are considered. It
is found that the lightest Higgs, h, can have a mass well below 114 GeV, and
for masses below 100 GeV will have a substantially enhanced branching ratio
into tau pairs. For this region of parameter space, traditional production
mechanisms (Higgs-strahlung, W fusion and gluon fusion) are suppressed, but it
may be produced in the decay of heavier particles. The second lightest Higgs
has a mass of approximately 110 GeV for virtually all of parameter space, with
Standard Model couplings, and thus an increase of a few GeV in the current
lower bound on the Standard Model Higgs mass would rule out the model. The two
heavier Higgs are both gauge-phobic, one decays almost entirely into b pairs
and can be produced via gluon fusion while the other decays almost entirely
into tau pairs but can't be easily produced.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figure
