    Stabilization of Solar-Wind Hybrid Power System by Using SMES

    The depleting fossil fuel reserves and increasing concern towards global warming created the need to surge for the renewable energy sources. Wind and solar power generation are two of the most promising renewable power generation technologies. This paper deals with the simulation of a Solar-Photovoltaic and Wind hybrid power generation system equipped with Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The Solar-Photovoltaic Module and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) based wind turbine is simulated separately. Then they are connected to a dc bus. Since the intermittent nature of Solar and Wind makes the system unreliable, so an energy storage system SMES is introduced to reduce output fluctuations. Varying wind speed and solar irradiance value are taken as the input parameters. The simulation results show that a system with SMES is more reliable than a system without SMES.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i3.603

    COVID-19 was accompanied with the increasing broadcast of fake news, misinformation and excessive information via social media platforms. This phenomenon has been termed “infodemic”, to describe an overwhelming amount of mostly fake, false or inaccurate information which spreads rapidly and impacts negatively on achieving a solution. It would therefore be desirable to use a cautious approach which utilizes culturally sensitive and country specific measures to deal with this occurrence. We aim to raise awareness, likewise draw the attention of global scientific community on this topic of public and mental health concern and it calls for further comments on this issue

    Silica-based chelating resin bearing dual 8-Hydroxyquinoline moieties and its applications for solid phase extraction of trace metals from seawater prior to their analysis by ICP-MS

    Solid phase extraction (SPE) using chelating resins has been established as a convenient technique for samples pretreatment prior to trace metal analysis from complex matrices. Oxine chelating agents (e.g., 8-Hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ)) are popular moieties in the synthesis of chelating resins, due to their characteristic coordination chemistry. So far most of the reported silica-oxine chelators encompasses a single oxine molecule per spacer arm. In this work, two 8-HQ ligands have been covalently attached onto silica surface throughout a single linkage. The synthesized resin characterized with FTIR, elemental analysis and SEM. The main parameters affecting SPE procedures, such as pH, and sorption kinetics, investigated using batch experiments. The capacity exchange of the produced resin under optimized conditions was 0.219 and 0.161 mmol g−1 for Cu(II) and Mn(II) respectively. The resin packed into 10 ml standard cartridges and used with a typical SPE manifold for matrix removal prior to an ICP-MS analysis of transition metals (i.e., Cu, Cd, Ni, Pb, Zn, and Co) in seawater certified reference material samples and real samples from high saline seawater near the discharge zone of Yanbu desalination plant.     Breaking CPT by mixed non-commutativity

    The mixed component of the non-commutative parameter \theta_{\mu M}, where \mu = 0,1,2,3 and M is an extra dimensional index may violate four-dimensional CPT invariance. We calculate one and two-loop induced couplings of \theta_{\mu 5} with the four-dimensional axial vector current and with the CPT odd dim=6 operators starting from five-dimensional Yukawa and U(1) theories. The resulting bounds from clock comparison experiments place a stringent constraint on \theta_{\mu 5}, |\theta_{\mu 5}|^{-1/2} > 5\times 10^{11} GeV. The orbifold projection and/or localization of fermions on a 3-brane lead to CPT-conserving physics, in which case the constraints on \theta{\mu 5} are softened.Comment: 4 pages, latex, 1 figur

    Propagators and WKB-exactness in the plane wave limit of AdSxS

    Green functions for the scalar, spinor and vector fields in a plane wave geometry arising as a Penrose limit of AdS×SAdS\times S are obtained. The Schwinger-DeWitt technique directly gives the results in the plane wave background, which turns out to be WKB-exact. Therefore the structural similarity with flat space results is unveiled. In addition, based on the local character of the Penrose limit, it is claimed that for getting the correct propagators in the limit one can rely on the first terms of the direct geodesic contribution in the Schwinger-DeWitt expansion of the original propagators . This is explicitly shown for the Einstein Static Universe, which has the same Penrose limit as AdS×SAdS\times S with equal radii, and for a number of other illustrative cases.Comment: 18 pages, late
