    Measuring emission coordinates in a pulsar-based relativistic positioning system

    A relativistic deep space positioning system has been proposed using four or more pulsars with stable repetition rates. (Each pulsar emits pulses at a fixed repetition period in its rest frame.) The positioning system uses the fact that an event in spacetime can be fully described by emission coordinates: the proper emission time of each pulse measured at the event. The proper emission time of each pulse from four different pulsars---interpolated as necessary---provides the four spacetime coordinates of the reception event in the emission coordinate system. If more than four pulsars are available, the redundancy can improve the accuracy of the determination and/or resolve degeneracies resulting from special geometrical arrangements of the sources and the event. We introduce a robust numerical approach to measure the emission coordinates of an event in any arbitrary spacetime geometry. Our approach uses a continuous solution of the eikonal equation describing the backward null cone from the event. The pulsar proper time at the instant the null cone intersects the pulsar world line is one of the four required coordinates. The process is complete (modulo degeneracies) when four pulsar world lines have been crossed by the light cone. The numerical method is applied in two different examples: measuring emission coordinates of an event in Minkowski spacetime using pulses from four pulsars stationary in the spacetime; and measuring emission coordinates of an event in Schwarzschild spacetime using pulses from four pulsars freely falling toward a static black hole. These numerical simulations are merely exploratory, but with improved resolution and computational resources the method can be applied to more pertinent problems.     Energy Disaggregation using Two-Stage Fusion of Binary Device Detectors

    A data-driven methodology to improve the energy disaggregation accuracy during Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring is proposed. In detail, the method is using a two-stage classification scheme, with the first stage consisting of classification models processing the aggregated signal in parallel and each of them producing a binary device detection score, and the second stage consisting of fusion regression models for estimating the power consumption for each of the electrical appliances. The accuracy of the proposed approach was tested on three datasets (ECO, REDD and iAWE), which are available online, using four different classifiers. The presented approach improves the estimation accuracy by up to 4.1% with respect to a basic energy disaggregation architecture, while the improvement on device level was up to 10.1%. Analysis on device level showed significant improvement of power consumption estimation accuracy especially for continuous and non-linear appliances across all evaluated datasets

    Competition of different coupling schemes in atomic nuclei

    Shell model calculations reveal that the ground and low-lying yrast states of the N=ZN=Z nuclei 4692^{92}_{46}Pd and 96^{96}Cd are mainly built upon isoscalar spin-aligned neutron-proton pairs each carrying the maximum angular momentum J=9 allowed by the shell 0g9/20g_{9/2} which is dominant in this nuclear region. This mode of excitation is unique in nuclei and indicates that the spin-aligned pair has to be considered as an essential building block in nuclear structure calculations. In this contribution we will discuss this neutron-proton pair coupling scheme in detail. In particular, we will explore the competition between the normal monopole pair coupling and the spin-aligned coupling schemes. Such a coupling may be useful in elucidating the structure properties of N=ZN=Z and neighboring nuclei.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, 1 table.     Particle-Number Projected Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov Study with Effective Shell Model Interactions

    We perform particle-number projected mean-field study using the recently developed symmetry-projected Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) equations. Realistic calculations have been performed in sd- and fp-shell nuclei using the shell model empirical intearctions, USD and GXPFIA. It is demonstrated that the mean-field results for energy surfaces, obtained with these shell model interactions, are quite similar to those obtained using the density functional approaches. Further, it is shown that particle-number projected results, for neutron rich isotopes, can lead to different ground-state shapes in comparison to the bare HFB calculations.Comment: 10 page

    SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF OXYBUTININE HYDROCHLORIDE BY ION-PAIR EXTRACTIONIN IN PHARMACEUTICAL PREPARATIONS

    Objective: Simple, sensitive, precise, reproducible and validated visible spectrophotometric methods have been developed for the determination of an antimuscarinic drug, namely oxybutynin hydrochloride (OXB) in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations.Methods: Two spectrophotometric methods are based on the formation of yellow colored ion-pair complexes between the studied drug, and two sulphonphthalein acid dyes, bromocresol purple (BCP) and bromophenol blue (BPB) with absorption maxima at 410 and 416 nm, respectively.Results: The stoichiometric ratio of the formed ion-pair complexes was found to be 1:1 (drug: reagent) for both methods as deduced by Job's method of continuous variation. Several parameters such as pH, buffer type, and reagent volume, sequence of addition and effect of extracting solvent were optimized to achieve high sensitivity, stability, low blank reading and reproducible results. Under the optimum reaction conditions, linear relationships with good correlation coefficients (0.9996-0.9999) were found between the absorbance's and the concentrations of oxybutynin over the concentration ranges of 1.0–8.0 μg ml-1 and 1.0–12 μg ml-1 with LOD of 0.21 and 0.19 μg ml-1, using BCP and BPB methods, respectively. Various analytical parameters have been evaluated and the results have been validated by statistical data.Conclusion: The proposed methods were validated in accordance with ICH guidelines and successfully applied to the analysis of pharmaceutical formulation. Statistical comparison of the results obtained by applying the proposed methods with those of the reference method revealed good agreement and proved that there was no significant difference in the accuracy and precision between the results.Â

    Comparison of various oxidative treatments for removal of reactive black CNN

    Decolorization of reactive black CNN by chemical oxidation and reduction using KMnO4, H2O2 and Ferrioxalate as oxidizing agents and Na2SO3 as reducing agent individually as well as in combination was studied on batch scale using UV-visible spectroscopy. Degradation of dye occurred in acidic medium with KMnO4 and in alkaline medium with H2O2 and ferrioxalate. The most efficient methods for decolorization of reactive black CNN is oxidation using KMnO4 as an oxidizing agent which removed 97.64% of dye. Maximum decolorization was obtained at 60 min of treatment under static conditions. H2O2 and ferrioxalate could remove only 50.71 and 44.21% dye, respectively. Sequential treatment was more successful with H2O2 and ferrioxalate when compared with KMnO4. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) contents of treated wastewater decreased appreciably from 83.6 to 63.7 mg/L and 86.8 to 72.8 mg/L, respectively. Additionally, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) study revealed the degradation of reactive black CNN after treatment into non toxic products.Keywords: Reactive black CNN, KMnO4, ferrioxalate, sodium sulphite, chemical oxygen demand (COD)

    Kompaktna širokopojasna patch antena za ultra visoki frekvencijski RFID tag

    A compact and simple patch antenna for ultra high frequency band is current demand for RFID tag. By embedding a pair of symmetrical key-shaped slot near the non-radiating edge of the rectangular patch, a new adjacent resonant mode close to the fundamental mode is excited to form a wide half-power impedance bandwidth (Return loss ≥ dB) of 122 MHz to cover the entire frequency range of ultra high frequency RFID operation (860-960 MHz). The structure of the antenna is completely planar without any cross or multi-layered construction thus it provides ease of fabrication and reduced cost. Performance of the antenna is evaluated by using a commercial electromagnetic simulator, Ansoft HFSS v13. Simulation results demonstrate that the antenna is able to perform considerably well when mounted on different size of metallic plate as well as in free space.Kompaktna i jednostavna patch antena za ultra visoki frekvencijski pojas potrebna je za RFID tag.
